Youth Worker (School Transition)

We are looking for a Youth Worker to build trusting and collaborative relationships with vulnerable service users aged 10-12 years who are transitioning from years 5 and 6 into secondary school, to identify and address any potential risk factors that may impact on a young person’s transition. 

The successful individual will provide support to build the young person’s skills, confidence and resilience during this critical period to ensure they can engage positively at their new secondary school. This will include the delivery of targeted programmes, activities and 1:1 interventions that address the specific challenges faced by young people including, bullying, social isolation, special needs, academic pressures or mental health issues.  The support will be delivered to young people in person within a variety of settings including Faith based groups, schools and youth centers. This post will also work closely with the violence Reduction Unit (VRU) Peer Champion project.

We are looking for someone who has previous experience of youth work, including with young people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviours. The successful individual will have experience of delivering workshops and dealing with safeguarding issues. You will be a self-starter with the ability to confidently engage with schools and partners as well as to build rapport with young people and engaging them in activities leading to empowerment and raising aspirations.

The salary for 35 hours per week is £25,586.87 per annum

We are looking for a Youth Worker who will work with young people, alongside other staff, volunteers and partner organisations to ensure that young people are given the opportunity to aspire and work towards those aspirations.

As a senior youth worker you will be part of the team at Carney’s community, involved in the running of the youth boxing sessions, youth club and bike workshop. The post will start before the lead youth worker is on maternity leave to allow you time to get to know the team, the young people and for effective handover when you will be given responsibility for overseeing the youth club and bike workshop sessions and work in partnership with the head coach to run the youth boxing sessions. You will also manage a small team of sessional youth workers. You don’t need any particular experience in boxing or bike maintenance, but we are looking for people with experience of working with and supporting young people aged 11-18.

We have the option of working between 3 and 5 days a week, but you will be required to work Monday, Wednesday and Thursday between 12.30pm and 8.30pm when our sessions run.

Working Hours: 5, 9, 13 or 17 hours, depending on the number of assignments allocated to the post-holder. Fixed term contract. 

Location: 2 fixed hours at one of our partner schools in Liverpool, London or Manchester and 3 hours flexible and remote.

Your Job Description 

As a Youth Project Leader, you will: 

• Deliver ReachOut sessions at the same partner school on the same day and time weekly during term time.

• Prepare your ReachOut sessions, following ReachOut’s curriculum and adapting the activities to the needs and interests of your assigned group.

• Facilitate engaging ReachOut sessions for the young people attending by ensuring that the voice of young people is listened to and impacts the way the sessions are planned and facilitated.

• Manage and support a group of volunteer mentors; supporting them to build strong rapport with their mentees and helping them to understand how to best adapt their mentoring approach to the young people they are working with.

• Support theyoung people in your session to reach and be confident in their potential by facilitating the creation of good mentee/mentor relationships and by running activities to build the ReachOut Character Strengths.

• Complete monitoring and evaluation activities to ensure the sessions are as impactful as possible and set up strategies with the help of your line manager to help each young person in your group reach their mentoring goal.

• Keep in touch with the parents/carers of the young people in your group about attendance, successes and challenges.

• Manage your project’s weekly admin by planning your sessions, maintaining your attendance and providing detailed project updates to your line manager.

• Attend ReachOut events and socials with their mentors. • Follow ReachOut’s policies/procedures to safeguard young people.

The YWF Youth Voice Coordinator Role

This role offers an exciting opportunity to coordinate and lead YWF’s revamped youth engagement initiatives. Collaborating closely with our Youth Voice Consultant and the entire team, you will bring passion, creativity, professionalism and ambition to implement our youth voice plans. These plans are informed by a recent review and are supported by a theory of change.  Additionally, you will play a pivotal role in amplifying this work and the voices of young people involved with YWF through our social media platforms.

This position also provides avenues for professional growth and development. Youth Outreach and Recruitment

• Undertake outreach and recruitment efforts to attract a diverse group of young people from the YWF membership to participate in YWF's engagement initiatives (currently known as the Young Ambassadors) - working closely with members and key stakeholders to do so.
• Ensure these strategies and communication channels are youth-focussed, inclusive and accessible.

YWF Youth Engagement Strategy Development & Coordination

• Help develop and coordinate YWF's youth engagement and youth voice initiatives including engaging the Young Ambassadors in a YWF engagement program, workshops, internships, trusteeships, panels, peer-research, grant-making, member visits etc.
• Ensure young people are supported to engage in outward-facing opportunities - events, social media, co-production, member visits.
• Work with the youth voice consultant, young people and key stakeholders to help further develop practices that promote youth empowerment, both within the organisation, the membership and the borough.
• Support internal pathways for the Young Ambassadors into YWF Internships and external pathways into supported paid opportunities within the borough e.g. research, youth consultancy etc.

• Work closely with the Marketing & Engagement Manager to communicate the voices and work of young people within YWF through various social media platforms - including supporting young people to gather content.

Internship Oversight

• Support and coordinate YWF  interns - providing guidance, mentorship and direction to ensure effective program implementation - working to integrate and support interns within different areas of the team.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

• Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including young people, members, staff, volunteers and partner organisations to share best practices, support collaboration and drive forward impactful strategies.

Project Management

• Ensure clear documentation, processes, and policies are in place to support the efficiency and effectiveness of YWF youth engagement initiatives, including supporting the Youth Voice Consultant to develop role descriptions, session plans, and risk assessments and safeguarding.

Grant Making

Delivering services to children and young people

The Young Women’s Keyworker will work with young women aged 15-24 to provide specialist 1:1 support to those referred into the service. The service is designed to be a “whole system” response to women and girls in the Criminal Justice System, so a key part of the role will include building relationships with statutory and VCS agencies, to support and encourage more young women to access the Minerva service, as well as setting up specialist referral pathways for young women in the community.

To be successful as the Young Women’s Keyworker you will:

Bring an in-depth knowledge of issues facing women offenders and those at risk of offending; both in and out of the Criminal Justice System. Have a strong understanding of the context and challenges facing vulnerable young women and girls, including the impacts of domestic violence, mental health, and sexual health.

Bring a significant experience of working with young women experiencing issues related to offending and experience of community engagement, advocacy and support work with young people and have proven practical experience of using motivational interviewing and coaching techniques with young women and girls, using a woman-centred approach to build trust and rapport.  You will demonstrate the ability to work in partnership with relevant statutory and voluntary groups, developing and maintaining strong constructive working relationships.

What will you be doing?

You will be joining Caxton Youth Organisation during an exciting time in our strategy, as we aim to maximise our reach and support the wellbeing of over sixty learning disabled and autistic 11–25-year-olds in Westminster each year, by creating communities, breaking barriers and empowering young people through youth work. You will be central to this, developing a team of youth workers and ensuring our programmes are delivered successfully. Children & Young People’s Residential Practitioners
Location: Working exclusively at our all-female Children’s Home, Yvonne House, SW8 (Zone 2)

The setting is an all-female Children’s Home for 13-to-17-year-olds. Whilst the home is stunning, modern, and purpose-built, our greatest asset is our people.

Ideal candidates will join a strong team of Practitioners who put love and kindness into everything they do.

We are passionate about learning and development and committed to providing an outstanding experience for all staff.

Part-time Practitioners work two 12-hr shifts per week. One shift Monday to Friday plus either a Saturday or a Sunday shift. You will also need to be available for meetings, training, and group thinking space – these take place on Fridays from 9.30am to 12.30pm. The total number of working hours is 27hrs per week.

The successful candidate will be proactive with a can do attitude and combine these different elements to make a real difference and help grow the organisation.

Due to the nature of the work with our members the role needs to be carried out in person and is not suitable for remote working.

Salary: £25,618 per annum pro rata (salary will be 0.6 x £25,618) & 3% contribution to pension

Hours: 21 hours per week, including the core days of Tuesday and Thursday

This fixed term contract ends on 31st March 2027 and is renewable depending on funding.

Key responsibilities:

• Network across the borough of Wandsworth and South West London by visiting organisations and speaking to people with lived experience of mental distress and / or using mental health services and mental health professionals.

• To have a particular focus on reaching people we are keen to see continuing to use Sound Minds including young people, people from BAME communities, and LGBTQ+ people.

• To form ongoing working relationships with people who refer members to Sound Minds such as care coordinators, social prescribers, community mental health teams, local psychiatric hospitals, and housing support workers. 

• To lead the referral team at Sound Minds to ensure the referral pipeline operates smoothly and fits the needs of prospective members.

• To lead on the pastoral care of our individual members. Working with people to help resolve any ongoing problems around areas such as housing, finance, benefits, access to mental health services, having sufficient food to eat and referring and signposting them on to other services.

• Referring members on to other services and ensuring that the offers of Sound Minds are joined up.

• Leading group sessions to help individuals with their wellbeing and recovery journeys.

The young people we support in this service are amazing, they are courageous, determined, and brave. These young people have often survived very difficult experiences and have often experienced high levels of violence in their lives. This can mean at times we have to work harder to secure their trust and build relationships with them. The experiences these young people have had in their lives means they can feel frustrated, angry, and upset. We need someone committed to showing care, respect, patience and understanding, someone who understands that challenging behaviour can be a demonstration of the impact of multiple traumas.

Youth Inclusion Coordinator

We have an exciting opportunity for a Youth Work Coordinator to lead an inclusive provision, accessible to all young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

Position: Inclusion Coordinator

Location: Burnt Oak, London, HA8 0DT

Salary: £28,000-£29,500 pro rata depending on experience

Hours: Part-time, 16 hours per week (0.4 FTE)

About the role:

You will be working for a youth charity committed to providing a safe and inspiring place for all young people. As Inclusion Coordinator you will be responsible for planning and delivering their ‘Limitless’ SEND provision (Sundays, 10am-2pm year-round and Wednesdays 10am-2pm during school holidays), as well as promoting SEND awareness throughout the organisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

• To lead the Sunday Limitless session (10am-2pm) year round, and the Wednesday Limitless Holiday Club (10am-2pm) during the school holidays 
• To identify the diverse needs of young people and plan, coordinate and deliver youth work targeting these needs
• To support in the development of the Deputy Inclusion Club Lead
• To influence the general programme of events so that it is attractive to young people with a wide range of additional needs
• To be a role model and a resource for other staff and volunteers to improve their inclusion practice
• To regularly engage in CPD related to inclusion
• To contribute to the building of effective partnerships with statutory and voluntary services and other relevant agencies
• To manage the Inclusion budget line and coordinate any other special events/activities (eg trips)

About you:

We are looking for an experienced individual, with a positive ‘can do’ attitude who can be a role model for young people. You will need to have the following skills and experience:

• Experience of Youth Work and of working with young people especially those with SEND
• Experience of successful inclusion work
• Experience of working with other agencies to promote best outcomes for children/young people
• Excellent communication skills
• Knowledge of the issues affecting young people and an ability to work with challenging behaviour and complex needs

New Horizon provides a range of Youth Work opportunities for young people experiencing homelessness. One stream of work is our Jobs, Education and Training (JET) team. The JET team support with young people to support them into meaningful and appropriate employment, training opportunities, apprenticeships, volunteering, and education.

In this role, you will work with young people 1-1, holding small caseloads, as well as working with young people in groups and delivering employment or education-focussed sessions on a regular basis. You will also source and develop partnerships to create appropriate routes into employment and training opportunities. Job Purpose

This role is within our crisis alternative service Safe Space - an out of hours service providing a safe and welcoming space for people who are feeling distressed and experiencing crisis. The service operates 365 days a year from 12:00pm (midday) - 11:30pm across all of our boroughs. The role will consist of two shift patterns to ensure the service is covered: 11:30am-6:30pm and 4:30-11:30pm. This will be on a rota basis across support workers.

Staff within the service will provide person-centred, practical and emotional support, face to face or via telephone on a one-to-one or group basis to individuals experiencing mental health crisis. This will consist of 1:1 support; de-escalating and providing interventions, signposting for specialised or longer-term support, and delivering collaborative self-management plans with clients to improve mental wellbeing. The aim of this service is to de-escalate and prevent further crises.

The objectives of the service include:

• To improve the mental wellbeing of people experiencing mental health crisis in HFEH.
• To provide support to clients accessing the service- for instance: signposting, de-escalation, planned wellbeing activities etc.
• To contribute to an improvement in individual mental wellbeing.
• To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
• To treat service users with respect, dignity and personalised support
• To raise awareness of mental health services available with the goal to improve long term mental health and reduce social isolation
• To increase self-management skills of those accessing the service
• To reduce the use of police, ambulance and statutory mental health services whilst experiencing crisis.
• To reduce the use of statutory crisis services by people experiencing mental ill health without positive outcomes for the individual.

The Role

The role of the support workers will be to support the rest of the team in delivering interventions on a one-to-one and group basis. The role will also involve triaging and assessing all clients accessing the service, signposting and delivering collaborative self-management plans with clients to improve mental wellbeing.
