All our Benefits Advocates play an integral role within our Information and Advice team and last year helped us to identify over £2.5 million in unclaimed welfare benefits entitlement for older people in the county. This money is life changing for our clients; improving quality of life and wellbeing, and supporting local services
We are looking for volunteers who are patient, sensitive and reliable, to assist older people to complete benefit forms such as Attendance Allowance. Appointments are usually in the older person's own home but can sometimes take place over the telephone. Full training and ongoing support are provided by our friendly and knowledgeable team.
Our volunteers will also raise awareness of and promote Age UK Devon services to clients, and record details of any other queries or concerns so that our Advisors can follow up with clients.
Skills required for this role are:
· Ability to empathise with others.
· Good verbal and written communication skills.
· Understanding of confidentiality.
· Patience, sensitivity, and reliability.
· Ability to respond appropriately to different and sometimes difficult situations.
· Working as a team member, referring to other team members when appropriate.

About the service and role
The East Kent Peer Support Service currently run group sessions for service users in Ashford, Dover and Folkestone.
The role of the Peer Support Volunteer is to provide additional support at our Peer Support group sessions. This could be, for example, by empathising with potential clients about the difficulties that having a mental health problem can create, helping to set up the room, explaining the services that are on offer and how these can be accessed, putting people who are anxious at ease by welcoming them.

The team will engage with other local providers to ensure a clear and seamless pathway for those that require support from multiple providers.
What you will be doing as a Peer Support Volunteer
Peer Volunteering is an opportunity for people who have themselves used mental health services, to volunteer and support other people currently using mental health services.
As a Peer Volunteer you will have lived experience of mental health and support service users on a wide range of non-complex issues that can be easily and quickly resolved. You will bring added skills and experience to our service and add real value to our team.
You will support the following people and teams:

- Members of the public
- Visitors and other organisations
The role will include the following:
- Support the Peer Support Workers to run the group sessions e.g. by helping to set up the room and by welcoming people
- Help to create a safe space where people can share as much or as little as they wish to about their experiences
- Foster the principles of co-production
- Work with other volunteers who support the service
- Signpost people to services in the local area that meets their needs
- Describe and explain services that are on offer from Rethink Mental Illness and other local community assets that can provide help and advice relevant to people's needs

About Pain Concern: Pain Concern is a charity providing information and support to people with pain and those who care for them, whether family, friends or healthcare professionals. About the role: Pain Concern is looking for a highly motivated, hard-working candidate seeking entry into broadcast journalism/production. For the right candidate, this is a chance to boost your CV whilst helping to realise Pain Concern’s mission, to ‘work to improve the lives of people living with pain and those who care for them. We have 140 editions of Airing Pain podcasts to date which brings together people living with chronic pain, their supporters, and leading healthcare professionals to explore the resources and approaches to the assisted self -management of chronic pain. Airing Pain is produced by award-winning former BBC radio producer, Paul Evans. The successful candidate will work closely with him, benefitting from his forty years of experience working in the broadcast industry.
What you would be doing: As a member of the Airing Pain production team, you will help in the initial research for each programme, and you will help facilitate its success after broadcast. Tasks include:
• Supporting the producer and production team in the production of the podcast.
• Promoting the podcasts in Pain Concern’s media outlets.
• Monitoring programme reach and listener numbers.
• Capturing feedback for our programmes.
• Writing research notes and programme descriptions.
• Administrative tasks associated with production, such as contact database management.
• Researching, contacting contributors, and scheduling interviews in conferences such as the British Pain Society Annual Scientific Meeting.
Is this role right for me: We are looking for an individual who possesses some or all of the below experiences, skills and qualities.
• You will probably be educated to degree level or a current undergraduate.

We are looking for Digital Mapping Volunteers to support our Derbyshire Recovery and Peer Support & Living Well services and network. You will be residing within Derbyshire community or surrounding area and, ideally, you will be able to commit up to 3 hours per week to volunteering.
The aim of our Community Mapping project is to provide easily accessible information on locations of other services, groups and community resources / assets available to our wider network.
You will work closely with a network of'nomad' volunteers across Derbyshire. Nomad volunteers collect local grass roots information on support, points of interest and community assets available in the community were they live.
As a Digital Mapping Volunteer, you will support other 'nomad' volunteers by updating the local information they collect on our digital Community Mental Health Support Map.
You will receive training and regular supervision to ensure you feel confident in your role.

You will also help the group to discuss changes that the members may want to see within the criminal justice system, and how this change can be implemented. Prison-based volunteers are the backbone of Fine Cell Work (FCW). Supported by the Fine Cell Work programmes team and by other staff at the FCW office, they teach and administer FCW stitching groups in prisons.
Prison volunteers work in teams to organise classes and teach our stitchers, as well as providing groups information to the prison and to the FCW office. The precise mix of skills will vary from prison to prison.
Volunteering in prison for Fine Cell Work requires ideally a good level of needlework skill (or a willingness to learn), some teaching experience and/or experience of working with socially-excluded groups. Volunteers must be patient and non-judgemental in order to work effectively.

East Sussex Hearing, an independent countywide charity based in Eastbourne, has dedicated over two decades to serving the deaf and hard of hearing community across East Sussex. Our mission is to empower individuals with advice and practical support, enabling them to lead vibrant, active lives and be integral members of their community.
We actively participate in various community events to bolster and enrich the services we offer, while also fostering collaborative working relationships throughout the county, for the benefit of the hard of hearing and deaf population. We are now on the lookout for a passionate Hearing Aid Maintenance (HAM) Volunteer - Uckfield, to join our cause on a voluntary basis.
About the role
Volunteering as a HAM Volunteer offers an enjoyable opportunity to socialise and make new connections, all whilst contributing to the charity's vital services within the Uckfield community. You'll be involved in offering warm and helpful hearing aid maintenance services, along with sharing information and advice on hearing loss.
What you will be doing
• Meet and greet members of the public who visit HAM sessions
• Keep written records of help given
• Check and clean hearing aids
• Replace hearing aid tubing
• Check hearing aid batteries and issue replacement batteries
• Provide basic guidance on use and care of hearing aids
• Provide general hearing loss information and advice, including signposting to other services

About the role
As a Community Fundraising Volunteer, your role is diverse and impactful. Becoming a Community Fundraising Volunteer is a wonderful way to have fun and meet new people whilst supporting the charity in raising vital funds and awareness of the charity within your local community.
What you will be doing
• Attend and set up local community events around East Sussex. Unloading and Re-loading of stalls with marketing literature, including event flyers
• Represent East Sussex Hearing at local community fetes, fairs and events
• Help with bucket collections
• Act as a Charity Ambassador by promoting our Charity’s services and events among your friends, family, and colleagues
• Help to source and collect prizes from individuals, local community organisations, contacts and manage the use of materials at stalls
• Provide general hearing loss information and advice, including signposting to other services

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.
We are looking to recruit a Support Volunteer for the Newcastle and Gateshead Group. As our local group Support Volunteer you’ll help people affected by MS find information about local and national services. That could be helping someone access local information about the care or benefits they need or giving them a hand with a grant application. See a video about one of our Support Volunteers here.
In this role you’ll be able to develop your listening and communication skills, as well as your knowledge of local services. Most importantly you’ll help people affected by MS to access the help they need.
Time commitment
We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.
You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the local area the group to carry out this role.
