MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Reporting to the Head of Financial Accounting, you will take ownership of producing accurate management and statutory accounts, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with UK GAAP and charity sector requirements.

This is a varied and impactful role, where you will lead on month-end processes, balance sheet reconciliations, VAT returns, and cash management, while also driving continuous improvement in financial systems and controls. Working closely with stakeholders, you’ll provide clear financial insight to support decision-making across the Federation.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We would like to hear from you if you have:

• An understanding of UK GAAP
• Experience with financial systems and ERP software (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Sage) along with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions
• Ideally 2-3 years of post-graduation experience in an accounting role, preferably within a commercial environment
• ACA, ACCA, or CIMA (or equivalent) either in progress or recently obtained
• A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, with a strong academic record

For most non-teaching staff based at our Head Office in East Croydon, we also offer lifestyle friendly working arrangements including flexible start and end times, and hybrid working with two days from home and three days on site.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, and supporting our small talented highly talented Team your key tasks will be to:

· assist staff managing project finances ;

·       support the development of donor project budgets;

·       take a principlal role in supporting financial compliance;

·       support IM to fulfil its accountability to funders

You will be a fully qualified accountant with at least 4 years’ progressive experience working on charity financial management including budget compilation, donor reports and grant management. With excellent MS Excel skills and experience of Sage 50 and ExpenseIn or similar systems, you will have outstanding attention to detail and excellent oral and written English communication skills.

We don't just want a dyed in the wool accountant, we also want someone with great interpersonal skills. A problem solver with a GSOH who thrives in a small, fast-paced high-calibre international team where everyone pitches in. Responsibilities

• Manage monthly subsidiary accounts and financial reporting
• Support month-end and year-end close processes
• Coordinate local and group audit requirements

A prestigious, world-renowned professional membership body and educational charity is seeking a Financial Accountant to join them. This is a pivotal role that balances technical reporting, tax compliance, and systems development within a complex group structure.

This is a great opportunity for an ACA qualified auditor currently working in practice specialising in charity or non profit audits, or someone already operating in a Financial Accountant role within the charity sector. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce subsidiary accounts and support the Group Financial Reporting Manager with consolidated year-end statements.
• Prepare and submit quarterly group VAT returns and manage relationships with external tax advisors and HMRC.
• Act as the functional administrator for the finance system, driving improvements and providing staff training.
• Administer investment portfolios, scholarship programmes, and fund accounting.
• Lead and develop a Finance Administrator, specifically providing mentorship through their apprenticeship programme.
• Manage the fixed asset register, intercompany reconciliations, and lead on cash flow monitoring.

Essential Requirements:

• ACCA, ACA or CIMA Qualified Accountant
• Experience auditing charities or non profits in an audit role OR in a similar role within a charity or membership organisation.
• Experience overseeing VAT, including partial exemptions.
• Experience managing payroll, pensions and balance sheet reconciliations.

Salary is £55,000 + Benefits. Central London based with hybrid working.
