The responsibilities for all Trustee roles are to:

• Uphold charity law, governing documents, and safeguard the organisation’s assets, reputation, and beneficiaries.

We are looking for a passionate and conscientious individual to join our board of trustees as the trustee dedicated to strengthening and diversifying our financial sustainability for the future. As a valued member of the Board, the role will join the team of trustees to ensure that Equality in Tourism International fulfils its duty to its beneficiaries and delivers on our vision, mission and values.

This new trustee role will assist in strengthening our financial sustainability in the forthcoming growth period.This role will combine donor development and business development expertise. The Trustee will work alongside our Operations Manager to:

• Leverage personal and professional contacts to open doors for new opportunities.
• Cultivate and manage existing and potential donor relationships, including trusts, foundations, companies, high-net-worth individuals, and institutional/EU funders.
• Identify and explore new, sustainable income streams such as consultancy opportunities, training, corporate partnerships, etc.
• Develop a strategy to grow and diversify income.This will provide financial insight to support EiT’s strategic and budget planning.This will include identifying budgeting for restricted and unrestricted funding.
• Attend relevant networking events and represent EiT at conferences, webinars, trade shows etc with the aim of cultivating financial opportunities.
• Work closely with the Co-Directors and Trustees to align fundraising and business development with EiT’s strategic goals.

Person Specification

Essential

· Relevant Business experience and Donor Development

· Commitment to Equality in Tourism’s mission and values

• Proven track record in fundraising and donor development, with success across income streams, for instance:Trusts/foundations, Corporates, HNWIs, institutional/EU funding.
• Excellent relationship-building and networking abilities, ideally with existing donor or business contacts.
• Business development skills, with experience linking fundraising to long-term financial sustainability.
• Ability to think strategically and translate ideas into action.
• Strong written communication skills.

Desirable

· Trustee experience in a previous role

· Experience in gender equality, women’s rights, international development, or sustainable tourism.

• Financial literacy, including experience with budgets, restricted/unrestricted funding, and financial planning.
• Experience of innovative or entrepreneurial approaches to income generation.

About the NBN Trust

The NBN Trust is a specialist charity dedicated to providing the evidence needed to protect and restore the UK’s wildlife.  We are a nature conservation charity, a tech charity and a people charity rolled into one. At the heart of our work is the NBN Atlas, our data portal. The NBN Atlas is the UK’s, and one of the world’s largest repository of publicly available biodiversity data, bringing together data from 170 partners. With more than 250 million records of 50,000 UK species, the NBN Atlas is a vital resource for those who wish to understand and protect nature.

Becoming a Trustee

We’re passionate about making nature conservation accessible to everyone, and we encourage applications from people from all backgrounds, including those that are under-represented in the environmental field.

As a Trustee, you’ll play a key role in supporting the NBN Trust’s mission by offering strategic guidance, oversight and specialist insight. Trustees share collective responsibility for ensuring the charity is well-governed, financially sustainable and operating in line with its charitable objectives.

Trustees are also responsible for meeting the legal duties set out by the Charity Commission, which include:

• Ensuring the charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit
• Complying with the charity’s governing document and the law
• Acting in the charity’s best interests
• Managing the charity’s resources responsibly
• Acting with reasonable care and skill
• Ensuring the charity is accountable

Trustees provide strategic direction, oversee performance and risk, and support the Chief Executive and staff team in achieving impact. While the role is non-executive, Trustees are expected to ask constructive questions, offer informed challenge, and act as ambassadors for the NBN Trust and its values.

As a Trustee, you’ll play a key role in supporting the NBN Trust’s mission by offering strategic guidance, oversight and specialist insight.

We are recruiting for two roles and are particularly keen to hear from applicants with experience in one of the two following areas. Applicants should demonstrate how they meet the required personal specification for one of the below areas.

Role 1: Strategic Finance: Strategic oversight of robust financial management ideally within the charity sector.

Role 2: Corporate Partnerships: Building and sustaining successful relationships between the corporate and charity sectors, leading to increased income generation and opportunities.

Alongside this, applicants should be able to articulate why they are drawn to the work of the NBN Trust and our mission.

Key Information

• Time Commitment: Approximately 15 days per year, including attendance at four Board meetings, Committee meetings, our annual conference and team workday as well as time for reading papers.
• As well as attending full board meetings, Trustees are expected to sit on one of our Committees, or sub-groups.
• Meeting Format: Board meetings are usually held in person at an accessible venue in London.
• Committee meetings are usually held online.
• Term: Trustees are appointed for a three-year term, with the option to renew for one further term.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

We're specifically looking to fill expertise gaps in Finance and Fundraising + Income Generation, though we welcome a diverse range of expertise and lived experience.

Finance

• Review budgets, management accounts, and financial statements prepared by the executive team.
• Ask constructive, challenging questions and highlight risks and trade‑offs.
• Ensure appropriate internal controls and policies exist and are followed.
• Advise on the financial implications of proposed strategies, projects, or partnerships.
• Stress‑test scenarios and support sensible reserves and risk policies.
• Provide assurance that statutory filings and CIC obligations are being met by management.

Fundraising + Income Generation

• Develop and oversee the execution of an ambitious and achievable fundraising strategy in collaboration with the team.
• Identify and research potential funding sources, including trusts, foundations, corporate partnerships, and public sector grants.
• Provide strategic guidance on the preparation of high-quality funding applications and proposals.
• Act as a champion for Studio Lutalica, helping to build and maintain relationships with key funders and stakeholders.
• Monitor, evaluate, and report on fundraising performance to the board, providing insight and recommendations.

TIME COMMITMENT
