The Role

Neighbourhood Network Schemes (NNS) are responsible for building community capacity and developing a clear view of the existing community infrastructure and then building connections between assets, statutory organisations and local people. Edgbaston is one of 10 designated Localities in Birmingham. The purpose of NNS is to ensure that citizens over 50 and adults with additional needs can access community support, improving their wellbeing and quality of life. This is achieved through identifying, supporting and developing the community offer provided by individuals, groups, organisations, services and places in the constituency (we often refer to these collectively as “assets”).

Having moved on from the initial phase which was to map the area and build relationships this is now a role that is more about maintaining those relationships and increasing the capacity of these assets.  However, there will always be a need to promote the NNS to new audiences and ensure knowledge of the area remains current so the role will continue to include developing networks and stakeholder engagement.

About You

We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills and empathy with a range of client groups.

You will have:

• A minimum of 2 years working in an engagement or community development role with diverse community settings with statutory and third sector organisations
• Recent experience of working with community/grassroots organisations
• An understanding of information sharing, consent and confidentiality issues and risks
• Experience and understanding of the importance of equalities, diversity and inclusion
• An understanding of the lived experience of individuals from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ communities and those living with disability/additional needs

Job Title: Senior Supervising Social Worker (Specialist Step Forward from Residential Hub)

We are looking for a Housing Mobile Night Worker to provide floating support to our teams in high support 24-hour projects as well as medium support and transitional housing units to ensure that our properties are safe, secure, and welcoming through the night.

Your shift will commence at Eastbourne Foyer and will support the static night worker there during the night as well as undertaking your mobile duties across Eastbourne, Hailsham, Bexhill and Hastings.

Working on site you will be responsible for ensuring the service is safe by keeping clear records of night time activity within the building. You will regularly complete building checks and monitor CCTV upkeeping health and safety regulations in accordance with YMCA DLG's policies and procedures.  You will work to prevent any anti-social behaviour from impacting our neighbours and other residents. You will work alongside other support staff to maximise the wellbeing of residents by completing one to one interventions with young people who may be experiencing mental health crisis and/or who may need medical assistance.

You will also be lone working as part of the role, so you will need to be comfortable with decision making and following procedures.

This includes accompanying clients to appointments, meetings, or community activities where additional support is needed. Here's what the team will be looking for

The ideal candidate will have a GCSE-level education with an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, and be willing to complete BEH Peer Worker Training and a Wellness at Work plan. A Health or Social Care qualification and ongoing training commitment are desirable. They will have lived experience of mental health challenges and secondary care use, along with supportive life experiences that inspire others. Experience in support roles, teamwork, and knowledge of recovery tools and principles is essential, as is an awareness of issues like stigma and discrimination. Desirable experience includes psychiatric hospital admission, mentoring, working in public or voluntary sectors, cross-organisational collaboration, and knowledge of local mental health services. Strong written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills are required, along with basic IT proficiency; skills in Microsoft Office or additional languages are a plus. The candidate should be motivated, reliable, flexible, and resilient, with clear professional boundaries.

The Children & Young Person’s Advocate will support children at risk of domestic abuse, including sexual violence and stalking within a domestic abuse context within the Thames Valley area. Liaising effectively with local partner organisations, and other relevant agencies, to ensure effective referrals, care, risk management, and ease of transition and referral, for young people.
