Background Information
This kindergarten is part of a Community Center that helps the population of the area with various activities such as a kindergarten, a playground for the younger kids, afterschool support workshops, a vegetable garden to be tended by the children when they are old enough, and the soup kitchen that cooks for the kindergarten and the people from the neighborhood. Thus, this organization is based on working with families and children from first to seventh grade, supporting them in their growing and development process, with a team of professionals and social workers. The Community Center was founded in 1994 as a soup kitchen, and the kindergarten was started by the mothers from the area a few years later.
Why is this project important for the community?
The main goal of this Center is to offer the children's families a place of education and integral support, where they can find social and psychological benefits. It ultimately represents a way to compensate for the schools' weaknesses and the lack of investment from the Government to improve them. Those who belong to the organization understand that the work with children is not efficient if it doesn't start from the beginning, with the youngest children, and this is the kindergarten's task. It is also a place where the unemployed women from the area can have training sessions that take place periodically with professionals.
Role of the Volunteer
From 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, the kindergarten welcomes and educates the children from the area. The volunteer can do a multitude of things such as assist the teachers with organizing activities, play with the children, help to feed them during lunch time, help in the cleaning process and much more! The Kindergarten is a place of exchange between teachers, social workers, parents and volunteers from the area, as well as from Voluntario Global. They all work together for the safe upbringing of the children and this gives the international volunteers a unique opportunity for learning about this perspective and exchanging valuable experiences.
What can you learn as a volunteer?
The help of the volunteer is invaluable for the teachers and for the population of the area because it represents both a practical support and cultural exchange. In this area where a variety of cultural communities live together, the volunteer learns about social diversity. Moreover, they can exchange with the local inhabitants about teaching methods and share their own experience and ideas to improve the organization of the kindergarten. These different viewpoints represent a wealth for this place and all initiatives are well received. This project is perfect to benefit from the company of children, who always have energy and whose smiles make us happy every day.
How does your work impact on the community?
The support from social organizations and volunteers is fundamental in this neighborhood, mainly because its precarious situation affects families that need to face a lack of infrastructures and serious problems of public sanitation. Indeed, many families live in houses where they have problems with light and where they don't have running water or a drainage system, in an area which has huge weaknesses in terms of sewer systems and road pavements. Also, it is located near a river which is highly contaminated by the chemicals released by nearby factories, and this generates respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases that mainly affect the children. Although faced with this situation, people don't receive help from the government to improve their standards of living that are now disadvantage and harmful to their health. There are some housing construction projects in the works but they are slow-coming and displacing the inhabitants that are the most affected by the contamination of the river. In addition to this precariousness, today, ambulances refuse to come into the area. Therefore, having volunteers coming to help them and wanting to learn from them and share time with them is crucially important for making them visible and appreciated in today’s society.

We have two volunteer houses that can host up to nine people where long-term volunteers are accommodated. Some volunteers choose to rent their own accommodation. In certain periods of the year, demand is extremely high, and the volunteer houses might be full. If you have the means to pay for your own accommodation, please let us know. We would still be happy to host you if space is available. However, in a situation where the volunteer houses are full, this would allow us to offer a volunteering opportunity to someone that cannot afford to pay rent.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to join us on the ground and immerse themselves in our work. Your participation could take on many forms, from support in the education programs to activities in the kindergarten to the delivery of workshops and expeditions with the Youth Scouts – we look forward to hearing your ideas on how best to apply your skills in this context. By coming here, you would gain a first-hand experience of the situation on the ground, working in a grassroots organization with a small but dedicated team. This immersion will give you a solid sense of our work, our mission and our approach – which would facilitate your ability to attract supporters.
We encourage applicants to work with us on the ground, but even if you cannot physically come to Greece, we will still consider your application.

Helping young people to reach their personal best
“SportsAid believed in me when I was just a young, inexperienced racer. As a self-funded teenager travelling the world with my Mum, financial challenges were a constant hurdle. Funding my passion was daunting until SportsAid alleviated that burden, enabling me to pursue what I loved and take my passion to the next level. Without SportsAid, I would never have gone from the little girl you invested in, to the Paralympic and World medallist I became.”
Millie Knight, Paralympic medallist & World Champion
COULD YOU HELP SPORTSAID AS THE CHAIR OF TRUSTEES?
SportsAid’s Mission is to encourage, enable and empower the next generation of athletes to achieve their ambitions in sport and life. Since 1976, we have been side-by-side with Britain’s greatest emerging sporting talent – from Mo Farah to Jessica Ennis-Hill, from Ade Adepitan to Ellie Simmonds – and so many others. SportsAid provides vital support to young sports people at a pivotal moment in their development. HRH The Princess of Wales is the charity’s Patron.
We are looking for a trustee to join our board as Chair of Trustees. With our five-year fundraising strategy underway, this is an exciting time to join as we develop new, impactful partnerships to deliver our mission for young sports people towards and beyond SportsAid’s 50th anniversary in 2026.
As the Chair of Trustees you will lead and support an effective, diverse and committed Board. The Chair will provide inclusive leadership to deliver the charity’s vision and mission, ensuring that each trustee enjoys fulfilling their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity. The Chair will also support the Chief Executive to ensure that the Board functions to best effect in supporting the executive team to achieve its objectives. He or she will act as an ambassador and be a public face of the charity in partnership with the Chief Executive.
You will have significant Board experience, ideally at Chair or other senior level, in the public, private or voluntary sector; or substantial Board experience as a member of a National Governing Body of Sport or Charitable Trust. You will be familiar with partnership working and engaging with a complex stakeholder mix. You will have strong financial and commercial acumen and a genuine passion and personal connection to the core purpose and mission of SportsAid.
This is a vital role offering the opportunity to join a committed and driven charity at an exciting time. You do not need to be a sports expert, but you will have a desire to help young people and a willingness to get stuck in. You can make a difference.
You will join a board of eight trustees in working with an effective executive team to support the charity’s work.
The minimum commitment as a board member will be to attend four board meetings per year (typically held in London but with the facility to join remotely if necessary) plus two half-day induction sessions and at least one half-day strategy planning session. There will likely be an additional time commitment to attend events representing SportsAid. Board positions are unremunerated but reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.
SportsAid recognises that certain sections of the community have been affected by structural inequities and may be denied the opportunity to participate equally and fully in sport at all levels. SportsAid as an organisation believes our role is to remove the barriers that our most under-served, at risk and minoritised groups of young people experience when trying to access sport and physical activities.
SportsAid therefore positively welcomes, and seeks to achieve, diversity in our workforce and that all job applicants, volunteers and employees receive equal and fair treatment. We positively encourage applications from all candidates regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender, disability, marriage and civil partnership status, gender identity, background, religion, faith, sexual orientation, maternity status, pregnancy, belief or nationality.
A role description is available on request.
Please apply by emailing your CV with an outline of how your skills and experience meet the specification of this Chair of Trustees role and why you are interested in joining SportsAid by 5pm Friday 26 September 2025.
On receipt of your application you will be sent a confidential equal opportunities form which all applicants will be asked to complete.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

Learning and curriculum designers wanted to help East London Waterworks Park deliver its environmental learning goals.
East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces.
We are looking for volunteers to develop learning content and resources, such as lesson plans and educational materials, to support our environmental learning goals. This role will focus on creating school-friendly resources for our website and collaborating with educators to enhance our offerings.
The role would include:
- Developing online learning resources for our website (on-going project)
- Designing or tailoring existing lesson plans and activities for schools
- Supporting the creation of ELWP’s Under 18s volunteering policy
- Supporting outreach efforts to promote ELWP’s existing learning programmes
Schools, universities and youth groups we've collaborated with include:
- Waltham Forest College
- Henry Maynard Primary School, Walthamstow
- Buxton School, Leytonstone
- Kingsmead Primary School, Hackney
- Daubeney Primary School, Hackney
- UCL
- Royal College of Art
- University of Westminster
- Project Zero
- Voyage Youth
- Loyola University Chicago
- Vanderbilt University Nashville
We're looking for people to lead on these projects and facilitate the direction of the learning working group.
The Learning Circle currently meets monthly on a Wednesday evening at 8pm for an hour on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely.
Ideal candidates have experience in curriculum design, teaching, or educational resource development. Creativity, strong writing skills, and an understanding of outdoor or environmental education will be valuable. Our roles are quite flexible. We hope that people bring radical imagination, peace with nature, and courageous inclusiveness to the role.
Your support will help young people and learners improve their environmental knowledge of design and research as well as contributing to our community-owned park. This will in turn provide a sense of stewardship over the land once the park is created and student's ideas have been built into the park. Creating learning projects with educational institutions will also help our charity with the strategy to buy the land through showing the value of our environmental education programme before we create the park.
You will have a significant impact on the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds. By volunteering in this role, you will help shape the future of East London Waterworks Park as a community-led environmental learning space. This will also help our charity with the strategy to buy the land through showing the value of our environmental education programme before we create the park. If you’re interested in joining us, we’d love to hear from you!

Trustees - Derbyshire Cricket Foundation
The Derbyshire Cricket Foundation are seeking to recruit several new voluntary Trustees to join our Board and support the work we do across Derbyshire to empower communities and improve lives through cricket.
We are seeking Trustees with diverse skills and experience, who care about improving lives through cricket or sport, and share our belief that cricket should be “a game for everyone”. A deep knowledge of cricket is not essential. We are seeking Trustees who can make a general contribution to the strategic oversight and governance of our business, and we’re also keen to add Trustees to our Board who have any of the following skills and experience.
· Finance – to be our Finance Director and Chair our Audit Committee
· Charitable Fund Raising
· Business Development
· Safeguarding
More information about the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation, the role of a Trustee, the time commitment involved, and the application process can be found in our Recruitment Pack.
Who We Are
The Derbyshire Cricket Foundation (DCF) is a registered charity that improves lives and empowers communities across Derbyshire through cricket. We also serve as the governing body for recreational cricket in Derbyshire – one of 39 county organisations working with the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to support a network of grassroots clubs and leagues to develop and sustain the game. Our ambition is that cricket will be the most inclusive team sport, and our strategy, “A Game for Everyone, outlines our plan to achieve this in Derbyshire. More information about what we do is included in our Recruitment Pack and in our 2024 Impact report.
What we’re looking for
We’re seeking several new voluntary Trustees to complement a strong group of existing Trustees who make up our Board. We are keen to attract candidates with diverse skills and experience and who can provide different perspectives and constructive challenge, support delivery of our strategy, and help us be the high-performing Board that cricket and communities across Derbyshire deserve.
We are seeking Trustees who can make a general contribution to the strategic oversight and governance of our business, and we’re also particularly keen to add Trustees with any of the following skills and experience.
· Finance – to be our Finance Director and Chair our Audit Committee
· Charitable Fund Raising
· Business Development
· Safeguarding
What’s involved?
As a Trustee of the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation you share ultimate responsibility for governing a charity and directing how it is managed and run, but the roles are largely “eyes-on, hands-off”, as our members of staff manage the day-to-day operational business of the DCF.
We have six Board meetings a year, typically of 2.5 hours duration. Board meetings are held on midweek evenings, start at 5.30pm, and are usually hosted at the Derbyshire CCC Central Co-Op County Ground in Derby. All our Board meetings have a hybrid format, so that Trustees can attend remotely via Teams if they need that flexibility.
Trustees are also expected to be a member of one of our Board committees, which will be aligned with their areas of interest or experience. This will typically involve attending a further 1-2 meetings per year. There may be further opportunities for Trustees to support our work or events, but we appreciate that the role is a voluntary commitment and respect that our Trustees will need to balance their time with other commitments.
The role is voluntary and unpaid. Trustees are initially appointed for a 3 year term, with an option to serve a further two terms, up to a maximum of 9 years. A comprehensive induction will be provided for new Trustees, to ensure they have good understanding of the role and the DCF business.

Commitment to Equality
At the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation (DCF) we are committed to ensuring that cricket is accessible, safe, and welcoming to all, and to the principles of equality of opportunity. We aim to ensure that no individual is discriminated against on the grounds of any of the protected characteristics outlined in the Equality Act, 2010; age, gender, gender reassignment, marital or civil partner status, disability, race, colour, ethnic or national origin, religion/belief or sexual orientation. Derbyshire Cricket Foundation (DCF) is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of everyone involved in cricket and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
We ensure that we have a range of policies and procedures in place which promote safeguarding and safer working practice across our services and are committed to ensuring safeguarding practice reflects statutory responsibilities, government guidance and complies with best practice and the ECB requirements to ensure that all children participating in Cricket have a safe, positive and fun experience, whatever their level of involvement.
