Who They Are

This organisation welcomes refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants who have been displaced from their countries of origin. Leaving home due to war, persecution, or incarceration demands remarkable courage and resilience. For many, arriving in London is just the beginning of a long and complex journey toward achieving settled status and a decent quality of life.

Rooted in the local community, the Centre provides practical support, advocacy, and a sense of belonging to those navigating displacement and rebuilding their lives in a new country.

The Role: Trustee

The Centre is seeking 2–3 new trustees to join its Board and help guide the next chapter of its work. The current Board brings a broad range of expertise, including charity governance, public service leadership, strategy, and fundraising. The organisation is looking for individuals whose skills will enhance and complement the strengths of the existing trustees.

The Centre is led by CEO Andy Ruiz Palma, who first joined the team in 2000 as an English teacher. He now oversees a dedicated staff team and a committed group of around 40 volunteers who deliver services directly to clients. Additional support is provided by professional fundraising and accountancy teams.

What They Are Looking For

New trustees should bring:

• A strong empathy with the Centre’s client group and mission

• An understanding of how to support community-rooted organisations

• Excellent communication and team-working skills

• Relevant experience working with marginalised communities, whether in a frontline, policy, or governance context

• Or personal lived experience as a refugee, asylum seeker, or member of a marginalised community

The Centre welcomes applicants who may be new to trustee roles, and offers mentoring and support to help them succeed. The organisation is especially keen to hear from candidates with skills or experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Finance/Accountancy (to act as deputy to the current Treasurer Trustee)

• Human Resources (HR)

• Fundraising

• IT and Data Management

• Lived Experience as a refugee or migrant

We are seeking to expand our current, small dedicated team, so if you can offer limited time during 'term time' or 'school holidays' we aim to accommodate flexible working patterns for the benefit of consistent content delivery.

Responsibilities / Duties may include but are not limited to: 

• Using your creativity to write compelling copy which raises the profile and work of CPRE London 
• Proofreading, restructuring and editing articles 
• Developing a balanced range of new content which may include current news, opinion pieces and campaign features for our communications to update the CPRE London website 
• Working with the social media volunteer to promote new content 
• Creating and sending our monthly newsletter  
• Maintaining and adding to the image library
• Using photos and images to good visual effect and to represent the full range of our work and the people involved  
• Overseeing overall content in line with brand guidelines, liaising with the national CPRE communications and website team 
• Optimising published pieces for SEO

 Our team will provide training and support to develop your role.

Skills and experience 

Preferably with 2 or more years’ experience in communications roles with excellent writing and editorial skills, good attention to detail, and familiar with managing messages in the media.​

About Croydon Community Energy (CCE)

Croydon Community Energy is the only community energy organisation in Croydon, combining grassroots climate action with real-world renewable power projects. Since launching in 2021, we’ve built a passionate volunteer-led team and are in the process of our first major initiative: installing rooftop solar across three community sites. In early 2025, we successfully raised over £120,000 in community investment in just eight weeks — a huge vote of confidence in our mission to cut carbon, lower energy bills, and empower local people. As a Community Benefit Society, everything we do is rooted in social impact, from delivering free energy advice to creating hands-on opportunities for residents to lead the energy transition.

Job Purpose

As the Finance Director, you will be responsible for monitoring the finances of our community energy group (which is a Community Benefit Society regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority), providing accurate financial forecasting, and ensuring the financial stability and sustainability of our community energy projects. This voluntary position is ideal for someone with financial qualifications and a passion for renewable energy who wants to make a meaningful impact on the transition to clean energy within our community. This role has the aim to establish a sub-group of volunteers to help manage the work, and you will be supported by the Board of Directors and CEO.

The below are example responsibilities you might be undertaking. 

Responsibilities

Financial Management

• Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and systems to ensure effective management of the organisation's financial resources.

• Monitor the financial health of the community energy group, regularly reviewing income, expenses, and cash flow.

• Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including budgets, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

• Conduct periodic financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing recommendations for improvement.

• Collaborate with the executive team to develop long-term financial strategies and goals aligned with the organisation's mission.

Financial Planning and Forecasting

• Prepare annual budgets and financial forecasts, working closely with project teams and stakeholders to gather relevant data and assumptions.

• Monitor budgetary performance throughout the year, identifying variances and implementing corrective measures as necessary.

• Provide financial projections and scenarios to support decision-making processes related to project funding and resource allocation.

• Conduct sensitivity analyses to assess the financial impact of potential changes in project plans, market conditions, or funding sources.

Grant Management and Reporting

• Research and identify potential grant opportunities to support community energy projects.

• Prepare grant applications, ensuring compliance with funding guidelines and requirements, with the support of the Board and other volunteers.

• Manage the financial aspects of grants, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance with grant terms.

• Generate accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, highlighting project progress and financial performance.

Financial Governance and Compliance

• Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, accounting standards, and reporting requirements.

• Coordinate with external auditors or accountants to facilitate annual audits or reviews.

• Maintain appropriate internal controls and procedures to safeguard the organisation's financial assets.

• Provide guidance and support to the board of directors and executive team on financial matters.

Desirable

• Professional financial qualifications such as a degree in finance, accounting, or a related field are preferred.

• Proven experience in financial management, budgeting, and forecasting.

• Familiarity with nonprofit financial management practices and compliance requirements.

• Proficiency in financial software and tools for budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.

By joining CCE as a voluntary Finance Director, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial viability and success of our renewable energy projects. Help us drive sustainable change and create a greener future for our community. 

Terms and Conditions

Length of contract: 12 months (until next AGM)

Salary: Voluntary, expenses covered inline with our expenses policy

Hours/days: Approximately 15 hours per month

Place of work: Remote, with occasional face-to-face meetings in Croydon

Upon taking the position, you will be required to sign a Director’s agreement including a commitment to attend monthly Board meetings and monthly wider volunteer meetings (giving reasonable notice if you can’t), and the agreement to log time spent on CCE activities.

Charity Shop Volunteers are involved in a wide range of roles and day-to-day activities that support the running of each shop and even a few hours a week will make a difference.

On the shop floor you could be involved with providing excellent customer service, processing transactions on the tills, replenishing stock and putting up eye-catching displays to entice customers in. 

Behind the scenes, volunteers get involved with sorting through donations to find those hidden gems and preparing goods for sale by sorting, steaming and pricing

We provide training, so you don’t need experience – and we reimburse travel expenses so you won’t be out of pocket.  

We’re looking for people who are 18 years of age or over that enjoy working as part of a team and making a difference.

We're looking for a Trustee – Treasurer
Bring your financial expertise and help us shape brighter futures.

At Options for Life, we believe everyone has the right to live a fulfilled and independent life. We are a Sandwell based charity that supports adults with learning disabilities and/or autism to build confidence, learn new skills, access their communities, and make informed choices about their lives.

With two purpose-built centres and over 65 staff, we provide a wide range of services, from outreach and hub-based activities to supported community access and drop-in sessions. Our work takes place in one of England’s most disadvantaged areas, where our services can make the greatest impact.

Join Our Board as Treasurer

As we plan to expand our reach and develop new services, we are seeking a Treasurer to help guide our financial strategy and governance.

We are looking for someone with a background in finance or accounting, who can:

• Oversee our financial health in collaboration with our Head of Finance and CEO
• Ensure effective financial controls, policies, and reporting are in place
• Play an active role in the Finance Committee and wider Board decision-making
• Present clear and insightful financial information to fellow Trustees
