Our Pursue work helps survivors to engage with police and within the legal system to seek justice and to secure convictions against their perpetrators.
We are looking for Volunteers to help support us with coordinating and delivering sewing activities, tasks will include:
•Organising and delivering activities for service user participation.
•Consulting service users to gain their feedback about what activities they would like to participate in.
•The safe use and teaching of sewing machines, making patterns and sewn items by hand sewn and machine.
•Helping service users to engage within a group setting, helping with any activity sessions that take place on or off the premises.
•Offering a safe and comfortable experience for all service users, showing awareness of service users’ varying physical and mental well-being needs.
Our volunteers come from all walks of life and have a wide range of experience and motivations. Whatever your reason for deciding to volunteer, we want to make sure you enjoy your time with us and know just how much we value your support.
This role requires maturity, and an ability to engage with female adults in a trauma informed way, while working alongside staff members to deliver the activities in line with agreed procedures and systems.
Volunteers need to:
•Be at least 18 years old
•Be female as this role is restricted for females under the Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010
•Be able to get to the venue which is based in Southampton
•Be able to commitment every fortnight
•Have knowledge and experience of sewing
•Be computer literate and have a good standard of spoken and written English
•Be willing to have an enhanced DBS check
•Have knowledge and understanding of human trafficking issues or willingness to learn
•Have knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions or willingness to learn
•Have an understanding of the importance of professional boundaries in the role
•Have the ability to maintain confidentiality

- Greet patients as they arrive and help them to get settled – make them feel welcome by engaging in conversation
- Help to welcome and integrate new patients by ‘showing them the ropes’
- Refreshment provision to patients throughout the day as required – hot and cold drinks
- Keep the kitchen area clean and tidy throughout the day, including use of the dishwasher (training provided)
- Encourage patient involvement in Therapeutic Activity Groups, social, and recreational activities, and assist the person in participating in these
- Work with patients in a 1 to 1 setting as directed by the Therapy Team
- Conversations with patients and carers
- Share information with ellenor staff relating to patients wellbeing
- Be available for a pre-shift briefing from the Therapy staff – discuss any special needs of patients and the day’s proposed programme
- Act as a ‘buddy’ for new volunteers, familiarising them with the daily routine and local procedures

Activities coordinator in our Live Smart independent living scheme for over 50s.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and compassionate volunteer with good interpersonal skills and a desire to help others. Experience of working with older people, with a kind caring nature, and an understanding of resident’s needs.
Activities include:
- Organising activities such as a board games afternoon, craft club and trips out.
- Communicating with the residents to find out the activities they would like to do.
- Arranging for visitors to come in to do activities, or talks.
- Encouraging residents to join in activities.
Skills and requirements:
- Experience of working with older people, with a kind caring nature, and an understanding of resident’s needs.
- An ability to organise activities, offering new ideas and initiatives. Experience with crafts or games skills would be an advantage.
- Able to liaise with the manager who will be able to support advertising the activities to all residents
- Required to have a Driving License and Car
Practical Considerations:
- Required to live locally, as local knowledge is key to this role.
- Volunteers receive a thorough induction and have access to any relevant in-house and external training.
- Volunteers have a named supervisor providing day-to-day support and encouragement.

Commitment:

Volunteers will not be engaged in “Regulated Activity” as defined by Schedule 4 to the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 (as amended). This includes assisting people with personal or health care, and undertaking activities with children that are not supervised by staff.
A DBS check will be required as part of this role and will be carried out during the vetting checks of successful applicants.
