Since 2012, we have raised more than £27 million to end the devastating impact of DMD.  We fund ground-breaking scientific research to find effective treatments. We’ve developed the infrastructure of DMD clinical trial delivery in the UK. We engage industry and regulators to accelerate access to treatments. Alex and Emily were awarded OBEs in The King’s Birthday Honours List in 2023 in recognition of their services to charity and to people living with DMD. They, and the dedicated and effective team they have built at Duchenne UK, are now at the forefront of this work in the UK.

We have an opportunity to join our team and build on these achievements. We are recruiting for maternity cover for our Personal Assistant and Office Manager, who will be a key part of our team and play a vital role in helping us achieve our mission.

This is an all-encompassing role for an accomplished and confident Personal Assistant to support the Founders and Director of Research of an innovative and ambitious charity and oversee the management of the Duchenne UK office.

The successful candidate will be highly organised with strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships with a wide variety of individuals, internally and externally. Reliability and a can‐do, proactive attitude is a must, along with having an outstanding commitment and sense of dedication to understanding, fulfilling and anticipating the principles' and office's needs and priorities.

The Personal Assistant and Office Manager will report to the Finance Manager and work alongside the Managing Director, CEO and Director of Research and Development.

Job Description:

 Duties to include, but not limited to:

• High volume diary management, including work and personal diary prioritisation and filtering out non-essential meetings.
• Answering, screening and responding as appropriate to incoming calls, visitors and correspondence.
• Preparing for internal and external meetings, calls and video conferences including confirming relevant materials are received, printed and bound for meetings.

• Management of travel arrangements. Scheduling and tracking domestic and international travel itineraries within several time zones.
• Administration support for the research team, including arranging meetings and assisting with event and meeting organisation.

• Management of expenses including arranging currency and processing expense claims in a timely manner.
• General office management and operational support including:
  • Liaising with suppliers / brokers (e.g. internet, energy, insurance)
  • Relationship management with office landlord
  • Overseeing office supplies and equipment
• Internal event organisation (e.g. staff away day, wellness day, staff meetings), including budget management, venue booking, overseeing delivery on site.
• Maintaining up‐to‐date contacts.
• Managing internal files and maintaining the confidentiality and organisation of file contents.
• Minute taking and writing, general secretarial and administrative support, including at Board meetings.
• Booking personal appointments for the CEO where necessary.
• Management of deadlines and prompting the team where necessary.
• Other ad hoc duties including personal tasks.
• Occasional support on Duchenne UK’s high-profile events.

The experience needed

• An excellent command of the English language: written and verbal.
• Exceptional diary management skills.  
• Advanced MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
• Event experience would be ideal, but not essential.
• Experience of working with a CRM system would be ideal, but not essential.

About the role 

This vacancy is for a University Access Officer to work in London across up to 3 schools along with remote working. Our schools are shown on a map of The Access Project schools on our website.

The University Access Officer works with school staff at all levels, volunteers tutors, and with the rest of The Access Project’s team to ensure that the delivery of the programme is optimised. 

Role responsibilities 

Our schools undertake either our Gateway model, which includes mentoring and tutoring or our Accelerate model, which includes mentoring and coaching. Some Accelerate schools also have tutoring included on our Accelerate Plus model.

Depending on the model in the schools you are based in, role responsibilities will include:

• Engage with students in school and enrol them onto the programme 
• Assess student progress towards being able to make successful university applications 

• Upload information onto the Salesforce database (training is provided) 
• Build and manage relationships with volunteers to ensure they have a positive experience of the programme 
• Manage students’ relationships with volunteers through monitoring of systems, emailing and making phone calls.
• Work with school staff to ensure their cooperation and timely completion of activities contributing to the smooth running of the programme 
• Chair and present at school meetings with Senior Management to report on programme progress. 
• University Access Officers support the volunteering team by helping to deliver volunteer training sessions, and attending university site visits, which take place on occasional Saturdays and weekday evenings (paid time off is provided).

New Horizon Youth Centre runs a busy day centre from Monday to Friday, providing basic needs to young people experiencing homelessness and a one-stop-shop for housing advice, youth work activities, counselling, jobs, education and training support. The Services Manager (Day Centre) is a brand new role for the organisation. They will work as part of the existing Youth Work Team to provide vital additional capacity and expertise to respond to the significantly increased demand we have been experiencing. This role is primarily focused on delivering our frontline day centre service each week. You will spend around 2-3 days per week frontline as our Duty Manager ensuring the smooth running of the day centre. You’ll also be responsible for coordinating our weekly rota, line managing the team, overseeing our Locums, Students and Volunteers programme, supporting with donations and day centre stock, and delivering staff training . Royal Trinity Hospice is the local hospice for southwest and central London. We provide free specialist palliative and end of life care for people living in Wandsworth and parts of Lambeth, Merton, Westminster, Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea and Richmond.

The organisation has recently embarked on a new five-year strategy and this exciting role will play a pivotal part in the overall delivery of the technology aspects. The successful appointee of this role will sit within a small but busy IT team and will be responsible for first class support of Royal Trinity Hospice’s customers and systems.

Reporting to the IT Operations Manager, the Senior IT Support Technician will be responsible for providing 1st and 2nd line support services to the staff, volunteers and service users at the hospice, and will support the IT Operations Manager in their day-to-day activities, ensuring the IT service is delivered to the agreed standards, as well as providing mentorship and team-leadership to the IT Support Technicians within the team.

As a Support and Advocacy Officer you will join a skilled team who collectively provide a unique UK-wide support and advocacy service to over 1500 members. 

You will primarily provide direct support and practical guidance to our Fabry members.  This patient group is largely adult focused but there will be elements of family and child support. You will raise awareness within both the Fabry community and external agencies; and contribute to the development of resources, to promote self-advocacy within the patient group.  A key objective of the role will be to build a sense of community and identity for our Fabry membership.  You will also have the opportunity to facilitate and contribute to project work, including youth engagement, advisory boards, and support groups.

Katherine Low Settlement has worked with older people since its conception in 1924.They are a core part of the community that we continue to work with. Our services include an Older People's Lunch Club, Contact Club, T’ai Chi for Elders, exercise and social sessions, and support online.

Key Objectives for the Elders Core Service Manager Role:

We’re here to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice. 

In recent years violent crime has risen significantly. Homicides, assaults, robberies and offences involving weapons have all seen sustained growth. We have also seen large increases in violent crime involving children and young people. This is a tragedy. Every child captured in these numbers is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them. 

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment and a mission that matters. We exist to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by funding great initiatives, finding what works and working for change – scaling up and spreading the practices that make a difference.

This role and why it’s important 

It's critical to our mission that we understand how and why young people become involved in violence. The YEF’s work combines conducting rigorous evaluations and research studies with hearing directly from young people. It is also important to us that young people are central to the messages we share externally.

Your role involves ensuring that young people’s perspectives are heard and integrated into our work. This includes supporting our Youth Advisory Board (YAB) and helping young people’s voices play a central part in YEFs external communications.

This role also supports the wider team managing grants, contracts and providing general team support.

CVAA UK is a membership organisation supporting not-for-profit adoption agencies across the UK who specialise in finding homes for children in care. Over 3000 children in the UK need adoption each year because they cannot remain at home or with family members. The CVAA Practice Programme delivers 30 or more online courses each year to those working in the sector, primarily social workers. The programme has developed a strong reputation for attracting a range of subject experts to deliver cost effective, engaging and useful training. The full programme is listed on the CVAA UK website and inlcudes topics such as LGBTQ+ parenting; therapy for children; identity formation; racism and anti-racism; parenting courses; theraplay and many more.

Due to a restructure of the team, we are now looking for a Training Manager who can oversee the administration and delivery of the programme. Initially fixed term, it is anticipated that this post will become permanent. We are keen to have someone joiun us as soon as possible.

The Training Manager will work with the Head of Practice Development to ensure that the courses are full, supported, delivered effectively and evaluated. Part of the role will also be to source new trainers and support the creation of the programme into 2025.

About the Role: This is an interesting and varied role. As the post holder you'll be not only be setting up, administering and delivering schemes and activities to benefit Barnet’s looked after young people, you'll also be creating marketing materials and supporting fundraising events.  Promoting the work of our charity is key too through updating our website, writing our quarterly newsletter and social media channels, as well as supporting the running and administration of the charity.
