This is an exciting time to become one of our first Visitor Experience volunteers
as the Royal Hospital restores the Soane Stable Yard and opens a Visitor and

About the role
As a Policy and Campaigns Volunteer, you will play a key role in supporting our efforts to influence policy, raise awareness, and advocate for improved mental health services for young people. You will work closely with our Policy and Campaigns team to help shape and deliver impactful campaigns and contribute to policy development aimed at creating lasting change.
We are looking for dynamic volunteers who will help us to advocate for change, and work collaboratively with other Policy Volunteers and across the wider charity, to plan, create, and roll out policy and campaigns.
Key Responsibilities

Assist in research, analysis and drafting of policy papers, briefing notes, and reports related to mental health issues affecting young people.

Support the development and creation of campaigns that raise awareness and push for reforms in mental health services

Monitor relevant policy developments, governmental reports, and key discussions within the mental health sector.

Help with the development of training materials or toolkits for volunteers and supporters to increase awareness and engagement around mental health policy.

Attend and contribute to team meetings and brainstorming sessions for campaign strategies and policy priorities.

Contribute to the drafting of letters, petitions, and policy submissions aimed at influencing decision makers.

Engage with young people to ensure their voices are heard and included in policy recommendations and campaign efforts.

At Rainbows, we support around 750 babies, children and young people with serious and terminal conditions throughout the East Midlands, providing support at our Hospice, in local hospitals and at home. As part of this, our Family Support Team work with families to navigate through the emotions of caring for a child who has a life-limiting condition.
As these families can be based all across the region, Keep in Touch Volunteers play a vital role in connecting families with the Hospice. Volunteers do this by making an outreach telephone call to a family; checking-in with them and signposting them to any wider support which may be needed, as well as any support or services which Rainbows may be able to provide.
Typical tasks the role could involve:
- Making outreach telephone calls to Rainbows families.
- Checking on a family’s welfare and alerting them to available support if needed.
- Relaying any concerns to the Family Support Team.
- Regularly submitting an activity log summarising their calls so we can make sure everyone is receiving the help they need.
Will it suit me?
This profoundly rewarding volunteer role is ideal if you love engaging with people and are passionate about directly supporting Rainbows families across the East Midlands. This role is ideal for someone with excellent interpersonal and listening skills who can think on their feet. Given the nature of our work, empathy and sensitivity towards the needs of children, young people, and their families are crucial. You'll be using your computer skills to record outcomes of your conversations in our database, so a basic confidence with technology is a must. Understanding the importance of confidentiality, boundaries, and safeguarding is essential within Rainbows. While previous experience in caring for others is beneficial, it is not a requirement.

Placement Volunteers at the British Red Cross are highly valued for the skills and energy they bring. We aim to provide our placement volunteers with an insight into the daily workings of the world’s largest humanitarian organisation. They will have access to relevant in-house training and development opportunities during their placement with possible ad hoc opportunities to get involved in other areas of activity.
Your role as a placement volunteer will help make a great contribution to the work of the British Red Cross. You will take responsibility for achieving specific objectives that are agreed with you within one of the various departments across the UK. You will have a real responsibility and place in the department, bringing some of your skills and experience to the role; you will also have the chance to develop workplace skills. While we don’t offer voluntary internships, we are happy for you to describe yourself as an intern on your CV, if you feel that would be helpful.
Hours: The placement is due to run for a period of 4 to 6 weeks. The placement will take place across 2 o 3 days, flexible hours, Mondays to Fridays 9am to 5pm. The volunteering hours are negotiable to balance your needs and what can be achieved in the role.
Location: The placement will take place on a remote basis, from the volunteer's home, but there may be occasional travel to London and/or other regional offices to attend and support at meetings.

The Community Education product team are looking for an aspiring content developer to support a co-production project working on our resilience building education for young people and their educators.
Our free humanitarian education aims to support educators across the UK with teaching resources, session plans and professional development courses. One of the key parts of our programme is our resilience topic, including resources which help young people to cope with challenges.
We are looking to improve our resilience resources in co-production with young people. This volunteer placement would be involved in running the co-production sessions with young people from across the UK, gathering insights and ideas. The role will assist our content development team to implement these ideas by creating new humanitarian educational resources.
We want to ensure that our resilience building resources are relevant and exciting for young people, including accessible formats of learning and focusing on challenges young people are really facing. Your insights will bring a new perspective to the team, helping us to engage young people during both the co-production project and through the final resource you help to produce.

ABOUT BLACK ROOTZ
Black Rootz is a multigenerational growing project providing opportunities for Black and racially minoritised people in the food system and making the food system fairer for our communities. Black Rootz was established in 2019 by a collective of Black growers in Haringey who recognised the need to organise to address the deep inequalities in the growing and food industries. Over the past 5 years, Black Rootz has developed a food growing practice, growing spaces and community centred activities for Black and racially minoritised communities. To fully address the challenges of food and land equality, the Black Rootz approach incorporates intergenerational knowledge transfer, increased access to land, food sovereignty, regenerative environmental practices and reduced food inequality.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Black Rootz Champion roles have been created in recognition that we need greater capacity, new skills and more experience to move forward. Champions will bring additional capacity to functional areas across Black Rootz as well as strategic capacity to the project. Each Champion will have a different focus but what will be common across the roles is:
- Responsibility within a specific functional area of Black Rootz activities, either working with members of the Black Rootz team or taking on some responsibilities directly
- Participation in meetings and work supporting the strategic development and long-term sustainability of Black Rootz
The first 12-months as a Champion is likely to be focussed on securing the foundations of Black Rootz. This will involve understanding the current ways of working that exist within the project, collaborating with the team to develop more efficient systems, processes and practices, inputting into effective approaches to our work, and beginning to connect the long-term sustainability of the project with the activities being delivered now.
We are looking for up to 5 people to join this pioneering group of Back Rootz Champions. This is a new approach. We aim to be flexible and experimental, but each Champion will have a specialism across one or more functional areas, be a confident self-manager and be comfortable contributing to the project from a position of leadership. This is the first time Black Rootz will be hiring to these roles and we are excited by the prospect of having extra support and guidance as we enter a new phase of our growth. Our first set of Champions will also be excited by the prospect of positive change for Black Rootz and comfortable navigating the uncertainty that comes with establishing this new way of working. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Participation in strategic development and building long term sustainability
As a Black Rootz Champion you will play an important role in work that will contribute to the future success of Black Rootz. You will join monthly strategic meetings alongside Ubele leadership, representatives of the Black Rootz team and other Champions. Your experience and perspectives will contribute to the strategic development of the project and you will support any workstreams that flow from decisions made in this forum. As a part of the first group of Champions to join Black Rootz, you will have a role in setting up and establishing good practices in this forum.
Support and input into one or more functional areas
Black Rootz Champions will hold specific responsibilities in one or more functional areas of the project. The nature of your involvement will vary depending on the functional area you are supporting. You may take on direct responsibility for some duties, for example creating content and building a presence on social media. Alternatively, you may work with the team in more of a mentoring and support role, for example mentoring paid growers to support Black Rootz’ growing activity. Regardless of how you will be involved, you will bring energy, experience and initiative to your functional area.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Plan and execute the Community Engagement and Racial Harmony strategy and service line:
• Cultural Events and Dialogue: Lead the creation of a flagship calendar of events designed to elevate the cultural and social quality of the community. This includes organizing a successful annual cultural festival with a diverse range of activities that celebrate and raise awareness of Afro-Hebrew heritage.
• Art and Media Collaborations: Develop and implement a series of collaborative art and media projects that involve community members, fostering racial harmony and showcasing the community's creativity and stories.
2. Measure performance: Keep accurate count of thenumber of cultural events held annually; the number of attendees to cultural events; the community participation rate in art and media projects. 3. Collaboration with Verticals Teams:

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Marie Curie Companion Service is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service.
Companion volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support. These sessions can take place both in person and over the phone.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING.
Your role will include some of, but not be restricted to, the following tasks:
- Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, e.g. family home, a care home or in the community.
- Provide one-to-one companionship and support. For example:
- Offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in every-day conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting.
- Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (e.g. to medical appointments) or taking short trips out.
- Helping with small, daily tasks, e.g. making tea or accessing the internet.
- Allowing carers to have a short break.
- You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or
during bereavement. This may involve offering emotional
support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out
information as requested
(This is only an outline as support will vary according to individual needs. Companion
volunteers do not provide nursing or personal care, or offer counselling or advice)
- Keep your manager informed of any changes to the situation, or any significant happenings in connection to the person you’re supporting and/or their family, either in person or by phone
- Submit regular visit reports to your manager and update relevant computer systems as required
- Be reliable and committed to regularly spending time with someone and offering support
- Attend individual sessions with your Volunteer Co-ordinator, training and group events as required

Join our amazing volunteer team to raise awareness of sight loss and RNIB services at local events. You will give talks in person or virtually, sharing your own story to improve understanding of sight loss to local service providers and community groups. You’ll be making a real difference to people living with sight loss by helping to improve accessibility and inclusivity, creating a world without barriers. As a Retail Volunteer, you'll be the heart and soul of our store, bringing joy to our customers and helping us create a vibrant shopping experience.

Volunteers are involved in a wide range of roles and day-to-day activities that support the running of each store for two hours or more a week.
On the store floor you could be involved with providing excellent customer service, processing transactions on the tills, replenishing stock and putting up eye-catching displays to entice customers in.
Behind the scenes, volunteers get involved with store housekeeping and administration, sorting through donations to find those hidden gems and preparing goods for sale by sorting, steaming and pricing items.
Do you have specific retail skills to donate? We're also looking for volunteers with skills and ideas around visual merchandising, identifying stock generation channels and raising awareness of our charity shops. Using your local knowledge, you could help to maximise the shop’s potential.
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
- Sort through donations, find hidden gems
- Prepare items for sale
- Maintain the shop floor and provide excellent customer service to our shoppers
- Operate the till
- Help out with basic housekeeping
