We are looking to recruit a Health and Safety Volunteer for the Bridgend Group. As a Health and Safety Volunteer you’ll make sure all local group members are aware of their health and safety responsibilities. You’ll help them understand and follow guidelines and procedures to coordinate safe activities.

In this role you’ll gain knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, as well as develop your organisation, admin and communication skills. Most importantly you’ll help your local group make sure all their activities are safe for every member of your local MS community. 

Time commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

Role details:

Time commitment/location:
Trustees will be expected to attend four board meetings, circa four
committee meetings and one to two away days a year and be fully
prepared for these meetings. These meetings start at 4pm on a
Tuesday and are held at Searle House in Exeter. We also have sub-
committees and trustees are encouraged to join where their
skills/experience will had specific value.
Trustees are expected to travel within the area served by
Hospiscare and occasionally out of area.
Term:
Trustees are appointed for a three-year term and may serve a
maximum of three terms.

Your role will involve greeting visitors as they arrive, providing information about parking and entry, and chatting with them about the important conservation work carried out by the RSPB. Full training and support will be provided, including how to open and close the visitor hub safely.

Shifts are flexible and available on weekends, with morning sessions from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and afternoon sessions from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM, allowing you to fit volunteering around your lifestyle. What are Serving Community Teams? 

Volunteers are the lifeblood of SSAFA. SSAFA has developed Serving Community Teams for volunteers to support serving personnel and their families in the UK and overseas. 

A Serving Community Team is run by a small team of volunteers on or near a British Armed Forces base which provides emotional, practical and financial support to the serving community. Our Chair is the key part of the team, coordinating the activities of volunteers to ensure financial stability and a safe and effective volunteer service. You will network locally to build relationships with the serving community, other stakeholders and welfare organisations. You will collaborate with the other SCT volunteers to support them in their roles as well as working with employees in the Serving Community Support Team to ensure the functions of the SCT run well, are documented appropriately, and reported on annually.

Serving Community Teams (SCTs) offer financial, practical and emotional support to serving personnel and their families at military bases both in the UK and overseas. Each SCT consists of a group of dedicated volunteers, working together to raise SSAFA’s profile, ensuring those who need support receive it. If you would like to lead and develop a SCT, we’d love to hear from you. Our SCT Chair is the key player, coordinating the activities of the volunteer team to deliver beneficiary support and ensure a safe, effective and financially stability SCT. You will network locally to build relationships with the serving community, other stakeholders and welfare organisations. You will support your SCT volunteers in their roles as well as working with employees in SSAFA’s Serving Community Support Team to ensure the functions of the SCT are run well, documented and reported on annually.

What you will be doing

• Leading the volunteer team, ensuring SSAFA’s values, policies and procedures are followed.
• Being an ambassador for SSAFA, building positive relationships with the chain of command, local SSAFA branches and services, welfare services and other key stakeholders.
• Working closely with your volunteers to establish an annual plan of activities to include fundraising, awareness raising and support.
• Having oversight of all the functions of the SCT, ensuring beneficiaries receive effective support, and volunteers have an opportunity to regularly meet regularly.
• Reporting on the activities the SCT undertakes and their impact, ensuring annual reports are submitted.
• Promoting the work of SSAFA and the SCT, highlighting case studies and good news stories to employees in the SSAFA PR team and Serving Community Support Team.
• Being available to consider any grant applications when received.
• Working closely with employees in the Serving Community Support Team, building on volunteer recruitment and and sharing best practice.

Role Overview
As a Volunteer Fundraiser at Barefoot and Free, you will be reuired to come up with fun ideas to fundraise, be able to engage people to fundraise and encourage new supporters.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, organise and execute virtual and in-person fundraising events (eg raffles, quizzes, sponsored challenges)

About The Role

Volunteers are integral to the running of our London reserve and without their help we wouldn’t be able to maintain this amazing 105 acre wetland of international importance, with views across to the City. Our volunteer team are friendly, motivated and hard-working and say they benefit by gaining new experiences, meeting new people and most importantly making a difference by helping maintain important wetland habitat.

Maintaining and managing a large wetland nature reserve requires a lot of practical, hands on physical tasks. With first-class training and guidance, you’ll be part of a small and dedicated Tuesday Reserve Support team that cares for a variety of breeds in all weathers, to help tell our conservation story. Your role will be to provide regular support to the reserves team in all practical reserve management, to maintain habitats, increase species biodiversity and ensure the reserve and grounds areas are functioning at their best for our visitors.

You'll be an essential part of the WWT team. You'll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need.

Due to the nature of and training for this role, we ask for a commitment of a minimum of 6 months volunteering. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a taster session alongside the team on Tuesday 8th July. Those selected will ideally join the team on Tuesday 22nd July, or soon afterwards.

About You

This an ideal role for someone who has a can-do attitude and are happy to help us in all weathers, being both a practical person and physically fit. Having experience in some habitat management would be helpful, but a keenness to learn is more important. It’s a closely-working team, however, the ability to work under your own initiative and being self-motivated is also needed. Having, or being happy to develop, the confidence to engage our visitors with the work of WWT is also a key part of this role. Main tasks include:

• assisting with all practical reserve management activities including scrub clearance, pruning, pollarding and fencing
• supporting staff and other volunteers with the construction and maintenance of island scrapes, ditches and reed beds, ensuring that reserve water bodies are maintained and managed appropriately (boat use may be needed)

• operating agreed machinery safely in order to carry out management activities
• assisting with the construction and maintenance of access routes to the bird hides including the maintenance of fences, footpaths and hides
• working with a variety of hand tools safely and correctly, observing and applying health and safety regulations at all times
• taking due care for the safety, welfare and enjoyment of the visiting public
• you may be asked to undertake related ad hoc tasks

Do you have 1-3 hours every two months spare to become a Mencap befriender volunteer?

We support a gentleman who would like for somebody to visit him for company and friendship. He enjoys time at home, watching TV, playing board games and baking, but mostly enjoys being outside when the weather is fine. He enjoys taking walks, cycling, bowling and meals out and would love for a friend to spend time and enjoy doing this with him. He would like to meet a volunteer to get to know and eventually enjoy getting out and about.

We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.

This is a Stop and stay, let’s get busy visitor role which means the person you will be visiting can communicate actively with you and take part in choosing or planning activities. As you get to know each our you may choose to ‘go out’ either with or without support from the staff that supports the person you visit. Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tends to be around an hour or longer, depending on what you do.

In this role you will spend quality time with the person you visit and could do a range of different activities like: • Sitting and having a chat • Checking in on their well- being • Going out to a local café/pub for a meal/drink • Enjoying a walk • A craft activity at home • Reading a book/magazine together

Since launching in 2021, we’ve built a passionate volunteer-led team and are in the process of our first major initiative: installing rooftop solar across three community sites. In early 2025, we successfully raised over £120,000 in community investment in just eight weeks — a huge vote of confidence in our mission to cut carbon, lower energy bills, and empower local people. Job Purpose

We are seeking an organised and detail-oriented individual to join our community energy group as a Secretary. As the Secretary, you will play a vital role in supporting the Chairperson and Board of Directors, as well as ensuring the smooth administration and financial compliance of the organisation. This voluntary position offers an opportunity to contribute to the success of our community energy initiatives and make a meaningful impact on sustainable development.

Responsibilities

Annual Duties

• Help organise the annual general meeting (AGM) in accordance with the society’s rules. It is usual for the AGM to take place within six months of the society’s year end in order for members to receive the accounts, and for them to be filed within seven months of the society’s financial year end. Usual AGM business includes:

  • Election of governing body members (usually directors) or the announcement of results if the election is held beforehand.

  • The receipt of balance sheets, accounts, the auditor’s report (if any) and consideration of any reports from the governing body.

  • The setting of any member subscription.

• Arrange for society accounts to be audited (if applicable)

• Send annual return and accounts to the FCA within seven months of society’s year end

• Display the society’s latest balance sheet

Continual Duties

• Keep a Register of Members at the registered office

• Keep minutes to record the proceedings of all meetings

• Ensure that the number of members does not fall below three

• If membership falls below three the registrar has the power to cancel the society’s registration.

• Provide each member with a free copy of the rules

• Give proper notice of all general meetings to all members and to the auditor

• Prepare and distribute meeting materials, reports, and other relevant documentation to board members in a timely manner.

• Assist in the coordination and execution of special events, workshops, and community engagement activities.

• Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence, including emails, letters, and phone calls, and ensure timely responses and appropriate follow-up actions.

• Draft and edit official communications, letters, and announcements on behalf of the organisation and the Chairperson.

• Maintain the organisation's contact database, keeping it up to date and accurate.

• Assist in managing the organisation's general email account and redirect inquiries to the appropriate individuals or teams.

Desirable

• Familiarity with financial administration processes and an understanding of financial regulations and compliance.

• Proficient in using office software and tools, such as word processing, spreadsheet, and email management applications.

• Previous experience in a secretary or administrative role.

Terms and Conditions

Length of contract: 12 months (until next AGM)

Salary: Voluntary, expenses covered inline with our expenses policy

Hours/days: Approximately 10-15 hours per month

Place of work: Remote, with occasional face-to-face meetings in Croydon

Upon taking the position, you will be required to sign a Director’s agreement including a commitment to attend monthly Board meetings and monthly wider volunteer meetings (giving reasonable notice if you cannot attend), and the agreement to log time spent on CCE activities.
