Executive and Finance Officer

We’re looking for a proactive and highly organised Executive and Finance Officer to play a vital role in the operations of Centre for Mental Health.

This varied and interesting role supports our CEO and Board, managing day-to-day operations and taking on key finance and HR responsibilities. This will include financial support: reconciling accounts, processing invoices, supporting our Board by organising meetings and helping with many aspects of recruitment, onboarding and assisting our staff team. In this role, you will be at the heart of our team’s success.

You will need to bring outstanding organisational skills, strong IT ability, and experience in financial processes (with knowledge of Sage 50). Experience of working in a charity is desirable.

We are seeking a new Finance and Administration Officer following the retirement of a long-serving team member. A key member of the SLA central office team, the Finance and Administration Officer plays a vital role in ensuring smooth financial operations and providing essential administrative support for our membership. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, book-keeping and effective day-to-day financial operations, producing financial reports using our CRM (IMIS) and XERO, in addition to administration support.

You will be experienced in financial and administration operations of a charity or similar , with an AAT qualification or matching worked experience. Familiarity with XERO will be an advantage. You will be able to bring understanding of cashflow and financial analysis of figure, working with accountants as required.

You will also have excellent customer service skills and be able to work effectively with all stakeholders from our members, to funders to suppliers. You will be determined and have an excellent eye for financial and administrative detail. Your duties will include general administration and:

Financial operations and record-keeping

• Manage day-to-day financial transactions and maintain accurate records of all SLA accounts and petty cash; book-keeping
• Process and record all incoming payments, including foreign cheques (into bank account)
• Monitor cashflow and expenditure, keeping track of spending
• Pay invoices upon approval and ensure timely monthly payments (e.g. pensions, HMRC)

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
Finance Support
• Count and reconcile all cash donations, preparing receipts and ensuring timely banking.
• Work with the Junior Finance Officer to ensure banking is carried out regularly and that cash held remains within insured limits.
• Prepare and submit weekly and monthly Lottery reports for both internal monitoring and Gambling Commission compliance.
• Issue receipt books and maintain an up-to-date receipt book log.

Grant Administration
• Manage the Grants and Payments inboxes, responding to and allocating queries in a timely and professional manner.

As administrator and Clerk, you will be responsible for providing secretarial, clerical and administrative support to the Gospel Oak Youth Action Link Youth Club (GOALYC) board, including diary management and responding to letters and emails. Online Searches

In accordance with statutory safeguarding and child protection guidance, online searches will be conducted for shortlisted candidates before interview. The online searches will be conducted by a person who is independent of the interview and selection process and will focus on relevant information returned via searches of the candidate’s name (and variations thereof). •  Access – the Foundation for Social Investment works to make sure that charities and social enterprises can access the finance they need to sustain or grow their impact.
• You will be part of a small organisation of around 15 people that take a flexible, collaborative and trust-based approach to work.
• Working closely with the Head of Blended Finance and the wider Programme team you will act as an integral support function for colleagues but also build good relationships with our external partners, supporting their engagement with Access.
• This is a key role that offers experience across a variety of different disciplines, with significant potential for personal learning and growth.

What you will deliver (responsibilities)

Programme Support:

• Present analysis and insights based on performance data and any contact with delivery partners to inform decisions within the team about ongoing relationships.
• Support the writing of papers for the Investment Committee and other committees including the Access Board, to present clear information to support understanding and decision-making.
• Help to organise, manage and minute internal and external meetings and events, including peer learning workshops.
• Assist with keeping Programmes pages of the Access website up to date.
• Supporting the development and maintenance of a bank of practical resources for use by our partners
• Other programme support duties as required.

Finance:

• Ensure robust financial management of Access’s programmes, including monitoring deployment targets of social investors and supporting the process for drawing funds from Access.

Relationship management:

•  Become one of the day-to-day points of contact for a portfolio of organisations who are delivering or supporting Access’s programmes, or in the process of applying to do so. These may include social investors, grant partners or other stakeholders.
• Build strong productive and supportive working relationships with delivery partners, in a spirit of collaboration and learning.
• Maintain comprehensive and clear records of the status of the relationship and any key questions or issues which are currently being addressed.

Data and learning:

• Support the acquisition and collation of regular performance data submissions
• Support the analysis and reporting on performance within each delivery partner and across the portfolio.

Other tasks:

• Leading on or supporting the delivery of internal and external events
• Contributing to learning and programme design discussions

The Role

This is a varied and rewarding part-time role (12 hours per week, worked across three days) at the heart of the Buckingham Archdeaconry Office. You will provide confidential administrative support that helps clergy and parishes feel resourced and supported, while ensuring records, processes, and events run smoothly.

From processing expenses and maintaining key databases to preparing papers for important events and offering a warm welcome to visitors, no two days are ever quite the same.

You will also play a vital role in maintaining accurate and up-to-date clergy and parish records, helping to coordinate and officiate around four annual evening Churchwarden Visitations across various locations in Buckinghamshire, and assisting with wider diocesan projects.

You will be joining a small, supportive team that values flexibility, professionalism, and kindness, with opportunities to learn and grow in a role that truly makes a difference behind the scenes of church life.

As this role thrives on collaboration and efficiency, we would strongly prefer the postholder to be based in the charming Stone office for the full 12 hours per week.

About You

You are an experienced administrator with a meticulous eye for detail and a genuine commitment to helping things run smoothly. You bring proven IT skills, especially in Microsoft Office, and are confident using tools like Outlook, Teams, and Zoom to stay organised and connected.

You are someone who communicates clearly and compassionately, whether by phone, email, or in person, and you are comfortable engaging with people at all levels. You understand the importance of discretion and can be trusted to handle sensitive and confidential information with care.

You thrive in a busy, varied role where priorities can shift, and you are able to manage your time effectively to meet deadlines. Whether working independently or as part of a small, friendly team, you are proactive, reliable, and always ready to lend a hand.

You will bring a welcoming and professional presence to the office, offering hospitality to visitors and support to colleagues. An understanding of, or empathy with, the work of the Church of England would be an advantage, but above all, you will combine efficiency with warmth and take pride in work that supports the wider community.

You do not need to be a practising Christian or have a faith to work with us - around 50% of our staff are not practising Christians but are comfortable with the Christian ethos that underpins our work. However, all our staff do have a desire to make a difference.
