Summary

The role will involve:

1. Supporting the Bishop of London and the Archbishop of York in their work in the House of Lords.
2. Advising on and researching materials for parliamentary speeches and interventions.
3. Monitoring and keeping the Bishop of London and the Archbishop of York informed about relevant parliamentary developments and timetables.
4. Liaising with MPs, Peers and their staff, Parliamentary officials and others in and outside the NCIs on behalf of the Bishop and Archbishop.
5. Drafting articles for publication, press notices or social media about the Bishop's and Archbishops' work, in close collaboration with their Communications Officers.
6. Providing research resource for the Archbishop in his provincial role and both he and the Bishop in their dioceses for non-parliamentary work. This may involve researching and drafting for talks, articles and lectures.
7. Assisting with disseminating the Church's responses to specific issues or bills, as agreed with the Head of Parliamentary Affairs and Deputy Head of Parliamentary Affairs. Supporting the Head and Deputy Head of Parliamentary Affairs in their wider responsibilities and standing in for them as and when required.
8. Working with the Parliamentary Team to ensure that the Bishop and Archbishop are kept abreast of the wider activities of the Lords Spiritual and the Parliamentary Team.

• This is a full-time post which is offered initially for a fixed-term of 12 months.
• 75% of the postholder's working time will be spent in support of the Bishop of London and 25% of the Archbishop of York.

We are looking for a Finance Officer to join our team to administer the financial affairs of the District. Responsibilities

Financial Controls and Policies

• Support the District Treasurer to implement proper financial policies and controls, ensuring appropriate accounting codes for churches and charities are complied with.

Budgets and Accounts

• Assist the District Secretary, Treasurer and Resourcing Mission Committee to prepare budget and circuit assessments for the District with reference to the District Mission Plan.
• Work with the District Secretary and Treasurer to prepare annual accounts for the District, including liaising with the auditors and helping to draft the Trustees’ Annual Report, particularly with regard to accounting practice and policies.
• Support the District Secretary as needed to ensure compliance with the Methodist Church and Charity Commission requirements, including supplying the information for HMRC P11D forms.

Payroll

• Ensure District employees’ and ministers’ payroll information is correct and liaise with the central Methodist payroll bureau so that staff are paid on time.

Administration of Bank Accounts

• Monitor cash flow and administer transfers between bank accounts.
• Set up approved payments in online banking and liaise with signatories to authorise these for payment.
• Liaise with the Treasurer and/or District Secretary on transactions with the Central Finance Board and Trustees for Methodist Church Purposes, preparing paperwork to facilitate drawdown of funds.
• Administer changes to banking mandates.
• Administer changes to Direct Debits and Standing Order instructions.

Receipts and Payments/Book-keeping

• Check invoices and expenses claims for accuracy, before sending to authorised persons for approval.
• Record all bank transactions for all bank accounts on a monthly basis.
• Produce monthly fund summaries, with detailed analyses.
• Provide monthly ‘sub-accounts’, where required, for specific projects

Other key tasks

• Manage the District’s Financial Record systems, including archiving information as necessary
• With the District Secretary, review and renew the District’s Insurance Policies. 
• Maintain the District’s Asset Register.
• Other duties commensurate with the role as agreed with the District Secretary.

Main Purposes of Job and Key Tasks

We are seeking a highly organised and quick-witted Operations Officer to join our dynamic team at Spring Community Hub. The ideal candidate will have experience in operations or project management and excel at managing multiple priorities simultaneously. This role is crucial in supporting the day-to-day operations of the organisation and ensuring smooth workflows across various departments.

In addition to their primary operations duties, the Operations Officer will also play a key role in recruiting and managing volunteers, organising events, and assisting with fundraising activities. The Operations Officer will support impact, monitoring, and evaluation tasks to help demonstrate the effectiveness of our programs to funders and stakeholders.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced candidate, preferably from a project delivery or impact measurement and evaluation background.

Primary duties include:

Youth Engagement Officer  

Location: Hybrid. Expected to be in our London office in Victoria at least one day per week. You can be remote every other day or come into the office. Your office days are flexible and can be agreed with your manager, other than for monthly team days where you must be in person. Some nationwide travel expected for Youth Steering Group training days, events and conferences. After passing probation, up to six weeks ‘super remote’ working per year, where you can work anywhere in the world as long as you’re online for four hours of the UK workday.

Contract: Fixed Term Contract until 31 August 2026 with the possibility to extend. 

Holidays: 38 days per year, including our 3-day winter shut down and eight flexible bank holidays.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (full time) Please note as this role works with young people there will be occasions where your working hours will be outside the standard 9-5:30pm. This will typically be a few meetings per month that can last until 7pm and about four weekend days over the year. The Fair Education Alliance (FEA) unites 300 member organisations under a shared vision that no child’s success is limited by their socioeconomic background.

Our members (charities and social enterprises, think tanks, businesses and foundations, youth organisations, unions, universities and schools) are working collectively to create an inclusive system. We exist to close the gap in educational outcomes between children from low-income households and their wealthier peers. 

This autumn, we’re kicking off our next strategic phase, which will take our work from neighbourhood to national, building a movement for systems change towards a fairer future for children and young people.

Education is not fair. The gaps in educational outcomes between children from low-income households and their wealthier peers are staggering at every stage of education. You would be joining the organisation at a very exciting time as our youth engagement work is growing and building momentum across the sector. In the last year we have seen a 25% increase in youth engagement across our membership, have supported Ofsted and Department for Education to their youth participation in policy making and our Youth Steering Group hosted our biggest ever Fair Education Youth Summit. This role will play a critical part in the success of taking this work forward. As the Youth Engagement Officer, you will work with our Head of Youth Engagement to ensure our Youth Steering Group can lead their own campaign activities, engage directly with decision makers, and collaborate with other young people to bring about the change they want to see. You will also support and manage the logistics of our Youth Summit, Youth Engagement Working Group and other youth engagement events.

Our Youth Steering Group is made up of 25 brilliant young people, aged 14-24, who draw on their lived experience of the different barriers to accessing a fair education, to campaign for change. You will support the young people to lead their own campaign activity, write their monthly Youth Bulletin and engage directly with policy makers. You will also help the group to participate in FEA decision making, support the design and facilitation of their monthly meetings and training days, help them make progress against their personal development plans. This role will include working directly with young people, session planning and facilitation, policy research and managing logistics.

Ensure the Fair Education Youth Summit is a success and remains truly youth-led  

Our Youth Steering Group design and run the annual Fair Education Youth Summit. The event is led by young people for young people and brings together young changemakers from across our membership and the wider education and youth sectors to develop their youth leadership skills, collaborate on campaigns, and engage directly with decision makers. You will support the young people to design sessions, secure speakers, embed past feedback and plan the event structure. You will also support with the event logistics, guestlist management, participant communications and collecting attendee feedback.

Support our members to improve their youth engagement practice  

Our Youth Engagement Working Group supports FEA members and other sector organsiations to increase and improve their own youth engagement practice. Founded in 2019, the Poverty Truth Network believes that this can only happen when those most impacted by poverty are at the heart of the movement to end it. Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, we are recruiting for a Parliamentary Officer who will develop and coordinate effective links between the Poverty Truth Network and parliamentarians, promoting a relationally-based approach to policy development and legislation.

You will be a highly motivated person with a proven track record of developing and delivering strategies to influence policy and political stakeholders to achieve change, ideally within a parliamentary or government setting.

Key Tasks

• To develop, with appropriate input from the Director and Partnership Manager, the Network’s approach to engaging with parliamentarians (Politics Alongside) in line with its values and practices 
• To ensure that Poverty Truth Commissioners are at the heart of the Network’s parliamentary engagement
• To develop and, where appropriate, establish links with UK and devolved Parliaments and governments to promote the work of the Network 
• To coordinate and help to deliver parliamentary events on behalf of the Network, including mapping topics and attendees, working with other partners as appropriate 
• To support the development of effective links with Combined Authorities and other devolved administrations
• To work closely with members of the Amplify Team to promote its groups proposals for change
• To support parliamentary engagement, including through written briefings, for the Network’s other national programmes, including Economics for All
• To work with the Communications and Learning & Evaluation Officers to promote and identify best practice to governments and parliaments
• To undertake other appropriate duties as requested by the Partnership Manager

About Us

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Governance Officer to join our team and help ensure strong, effective governance across the organisation. This role is key to supporting the charity’s trustees and senior leadership team to meet their legal and regulatory responsibilities, and to uphold the highest standards of accountability and transparency.

Key Responsibilities

Board and Committee Support

• Coordinate meetings of the Board of Trustees and sub-committees, including scheduling, agenda planning, and circulation of papers.
• Take accurate and timely minutes and ensure appropriate follow-up actions are tracked and completed.
• Support trustee recruitment, induction, training, annual board effectiveness survey and skills review.
• Maintain trustees register of interests updating it annually or as and when needed, whichever is soonest.
• Monitor board members tenure periods and associated actions for re-appointment or termination.

Compliance and Regulation

• Ensure the charity complies with statutory and regulatory requirements (e.g. Charity Commission, Companies House, Office for the Scottish Charity Regulator, GDPR, Fundraising Regulator).
• Maintain accurate records including the statutory registers, governance documents, and trustee declarations.
• Write the statutory annual report sourcing content from relevant teams and updating all sections.
• Submit annual returns to the Charity Commission, Companies House and Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator.
• Support the COO in working towards and maintaining compliance with the Charity Governance code.

Governance Best Practice

• Draft new, review and update existing policies and procedures in line with current legislation and best practice ensuring they are on a rolling timetable for review.
• Monitor developments in charity law, governance codes, and relevant regulations, advising colleagues and trustees accordingly.
• Support risk management and contribute to the maintenance of the organisation’s risk register.
• Maintain the register of Leukaemia Care’s contracts with external suppliers and funders.

Organisational Support

• Work collaboratively across teams to ensure governance is embedded in the culture and operations of the charity.
• Support internal audits and the implementation of recommendations.
• Provide guidance on good governance practices across the charity.

General
