Our advice services provide essential support on issues like benefits, housing, discrimination, access, and more — but our work doesn’t stop there. We use what we learn from people’s experiences to challenge injustice, influence policy, and campaign for change.

About the Role

As Advice Manager, you’ll take a strategic lead on developing our advice service to ensure it is accessible and high-quality, and also actively challenge the root causes of inequality. The Advice Manager will have wide ranging responsibilities for the performance, quality assurance and development of internal advice services and will be responsible for achieving and evidencing high quality positive outcomes for service users.

You will Manage our advice teams: Information Navigation, Benefits Advice, Money Advice and our benefits advice contract with South West London and St Georges. We also administer a number of grants on behalf of local grant giving charities and the local authority and you will manage the administration of these grant funds.

We currently have 14 advisors across our advice teams including 2 team leaders in our Information Navigation (general advice) and South West London and St Georges benefits advice team, it is currently 8 direct reports. 

As a key member of our management team you will work closely with other managers. You will also take a lead on Safeguarding and Data protection across the whole organisation and deputise for the CEO as required.

As our Advice Manager, you’ll take the lead in shaping and strengthening our vital advice services by

• Managing, supporting and inspiring a team of skilled advisers and volunteers.
• Developing and leading a high-quality advice service that meets the requirements of the Advice Quality Standard (AQS) and that is responsive, inclusive, and empowering.
• Embedding systems for monitoring and evaluation, using data, outcomes, and client feedback to improve quality and impact.
• Driving service improvements, streamline processes, and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
• Championing the voices of disabled people, feeding insight from frontline work into our policy and campaigning.
• Ensuring the service contributes to social justice, tackling systemic barriers and inequities through both individual casework and broader change.
• Representing the organisation externally including meeting and influencing local stakeholders including local councils, funders and advice organisations.

About you

You’re an experienced advice professional and a passionate advocate for social justice. We need someone with experience of working in an advice and representation role and with experience in managing a busy advice team. You understand the power of high-quality advice in changing lives — and the importance of using that insight to shift systems.

Our Generalist Advice Supervisors provide excellent on-the-day generalist advice supervision across our services.

You could supervise advice already, or be an experienced adviser looking for their next move. This role is perfect for a candidate who wants to deliver an immediate impact in their work and is enthusiastic about bringing people along with them. You'll maintain a consistently high quality of advice and helping clients by providing support, guidance and feedback on a day-to-day basis by:

• actively supporting the quality of generalist advice and pathfinding (triage) by guiding the team to information sources, checking that all aspects of a client's situation have been considered, checking that follow up work is progressed, that research and campaigns issues are identified and outcomes are recorded 
• actively supporting each team member to develop their skills and competences, by guiding, demonstrating, encouraging, suggesting, coaching, giving timely & constructive feedback and challenging appropriately 
• adapting the level of support to individual competence and taking account of the whole team’s needs.
• managing the practicalities of advice sessions by overseeing and managing all practical issues relating to the session

PRINCIPAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Supervision 

• Ensure that all advice given under your supervision conforms to Citizens Advice quality standards and with our systems and procedures. 

• Supervise advice teams in our main office, at outreach locations and on remote services (e.g. Adviceline) to ensure smooth running of services and client journeys. 

• Manage drop-in sessions at our main office and at external locations 

• Identify general training and support needs in paid and voluntary staff under your supervision and feed back into the organisation’s learning and development plan. 

• Provide timely feedback to paid and voluntary trainee advisers by observing client interviews and reviewing follow-up work 

Quality assurance and training 

• Working as part of our case review team, conduct case reviews to set rectification action for both paid and voluntary staff to ensure Citizens Advice quality standards are met. 

• Keep up to date with legislation, case law, policies and procedures, and disseminate updates to paid and voluntary staff through our communications channels. 

Research, campaigns and partnership building 

• Take part in the organisation’s responses to local research and campaign issues by supporting paid and voluntary staff to collect case studies and statistical data. 

• Contribute to developing partnerships with other organisations to support our advice work. 

Other duties and responsibilities 

• Carry out any other tasks that may be within the scope of the post to ensure the effective delivery and development of our service. 

• Be alert to funding opportunities and contribute to funding bids and proposals. 

• Demonstrate commitment to the aims and policies of the Citizens Advice service.

PERSON SPECIFICATION 

Essential 

• Ability to commit to and work within, the aims, principles and policies of the Citizens Advice service and the vision of Citizens Advice Kensington and Chelsea. 

• If not currently a supervisor, a minimum of two years’ experience and demonstrable ability of delivering good quality generalist advice.

• Experience of delivering advice across different channels (telephone, in-person, etc.).

• Understanding of the complex needs of our clients, the ability to empathise, and to deliver advice in a way that meets the client's needs 

• Ability to prioritise own work, meet deadlines and manage a variety of duties. 

• Good interpersonal and communication skills, verbally and in writing.

• Proven ability to build relationships with clients, volunteers, staff and partners. 

• Experience of working with, managing and developing volunteers. 

Desirable

A key part of the role is leading the organisation’s preparation for the Advice Quality Standard, including the recruitment, training, and support of volunteer advisors, as part of a collaborative team with the CEO and Operations Manager.

The Advice Manager will lead the development of the service to better reflect and respond to Camden’s diverse disabled communities.

Advice Manager (Outreach & Data)

The Advice & Wellbeing Team at KCLSU are looking for an Advice Manager (Outreach & Data) to join us in running our vital Advice service for student's at KCL. 

As the Advice Manager (Outreach & Data), it is your role to ensure an effective and efficient Advice service that meets the needs of students and supports the development of the colleagues in Advice. You will do this by developing partnerships across both King’s and KCLSU to ensure more students and staff have a strong understanding of the service. You will also lead on process changes to streamline data collection and impact reporting to ensure our service is constantly improving.

Key responsibilities include; 

• Managing the delivery and development of the Advice Service by collaborating closely with the Advice Manager (Training and Development) and the Advice Manager (Triage)
• Collaborating with the Advice management team to review and improve systems and processes to improve service efficiency and effectiveness.
• Leading the development of the Advice outreach strategy and delivery ensuring it responds to the needs of underrepresented groups while educating students about the Advice service and relevant procedures and regulations. 
• Managing three Student Advisors and support their development and ensure the quality and consistency of advice delivered.
• Leading partnership building across King's and KCLSU to build awareness and collaborative working including leading faculty-specific projects informed by data.
• Leading on service evaluation and impact reporting ensuring that data collection is accurate, consistent and frequent.
• Being a point of safeguarding escalation for Advice colleagues and be responsible for escalating safeguarding concerns appropriately to the Head of Advice.
• When needed, support with complex cases and be responsible for cases being picked up in busy periods.

We are looking for someone who is organised, proactive, and confident in communicating clearly and empathetically. You will have excellent planning skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high standard of service. You may have experience coordinating people or services and ideally some familiarity with advice provision, helpline delivery, or the wider social care or welfare landscape - although this is not essential. Our mission is to help people manage their money effectively, and our independent, confidential and flexible approach is tailored to individuals’ needs, allowing us to reach those who find it most difficult to access advice. You will be joining a large team of Money Advisers providing specialist level debt and benefit advice and casework. 

You will have lots of variety, providing telephone specialist debt and benefit advice and casework across a range of projects.  If you are available to work in our Brighton and Hove office you will also deliver face-to-face advice both in the office and other outreach locations including Foodbanks and with inpatients.

Ideally you will hold a qualification in Money Advice, obtained either through the Institute of Money Advisers or the Money and Pensions Service.  If you do not have a qualification, you must be prepared to work towards obtaining this, included some study in your own time. You will have excellent communication and digital skills, be comfortable delivering advice in person and by phone, and be able to plan and organise your work effectively.

We're looking for an experienced and people-focused People Advice Manager to join a leading UK charity on a temporary basis for six months. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a dedicated HR advice team, ensuring managers and staff receive high-quality, timely, and business-focused guidance.

You will be based in our office in Teddington and provide outreach and home visits to people living all over Richmond borough working within our team of experienced benefits advisors and volunteers.

The Benefits Service provides disabled people and carers with one-to-one confidential advice on disability benefits including support with form filling, application forms and appeals, outreach work and home visits.

As a Welfare Benefits Adviser, you will:

• Provide clear, accurate, and confidential advice on disability-related welfare benefits, including PIP, Universal Credit, ESA, and DLA
• Support clients with benefit applications, appeals, and refer on for tribunal representation
• Offer advice in person, over the phone, online, and via written correspondence

Richmond AID have 3 main advice teams: Information Navigation, Benefits Advice and Money Advice. We also administer a number of grants on behalf of local grant giving charities and the local authority. Our teams are busier than ever and this role will play a vital part in supporting the team with administration tasks including; taking client enquiries from the phone, website and email and uploading them to our database, scanning and photocopying.

You will spend your time working directly with clients with a range of physical, sensory and mental health impairments to help them to fill in grant allocation forms and other forms and helping people to know their rights. You will also support our advice teams administratively; arranging appointments, sending emails and letters and uploading information to our database.

You will receive training in a range of advice areas (housing, health and social care, benefits, transport and travel) as well as other relevant topics such as various mental health conditions, managing challenging behaviour, professional boundaries, and case management. You will be supported by a friendly team of experienced advisers who will have the opportunity to shadow and you will also have access to a range of external training and development opportunities.

You will need to have clear written and oral communication skills as you will need to make phone calls and write emails and letters to clients as well as providing progress updates to the team.

You will work closely with our experienced advice team and we can offer opportunities for training and development in a range of areas including social care, housing and benefits to support you on your journey to becoming and advisor.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have solid administration and organisational skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. You will have strong communication skills across all levels and will be a real team player with a genuine interest in supporting disabled people.

An interest in developing advice skills in essential and experience or a background in advice and information will be an advantage.

You will have excellent communication and IT skills, administrative skills and be fully competent on Microsoft applications. You will have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about social justice and the empowerment of disabled people and excited to learn valuable skills on the job.

The role is responsible for ensuring the charity operates within a robust governance framework and complies with all relevant statutory, regulatory, and internal requirements. This role requires the ability to operate, and pivot, between subject matter expert, strategic partner, advisor and team member - with hands-on delivery, supporting the Board of Trustees, senior leadership, and staff to embed a culture of good governance, risk awareness, and ethical practice across the charity.

The role line manages a small team (including two administrative assistants), and oversees the use of external experts to provide advice.
