We are recruiting an Advisor and Caseworker to help us meet the growing needs of our community who are facing the cost-of-living crisis, energy crisis and help improve their health and wellbeing. The Integrated Advice service at the Bromley by Bow Centre is a well-established programme of support which has been running within East London for over a decade, providing in-depth one-to-one advice on welfare benefits, debt, housing, financial and energy advice, community workshops, training and volunteering opportunities.
All our advisors are expected to work across a range of contracts and support the team in its delivery of key performance indicators (KPIs). The Centre’s holistic approach means that we seek to support peoples’ multiple needs. Within all of our services, we aim to gain an understanding of our clients’ needs and support them to access a range of services and activities both at the Centre and through local partners.
This role will focus on supporting local older residents who are living in poverty. The Advisor and Caseworker will reach out to identify and engage with older residents in need, liaising closely with other local services. The role will provide free, impartial and confidential advice to older people in Tower Hamlets and neighbouring boroughs on a range of issues including welfare benefits, housing, debt, money management, energy advice and community care.

Key Responsibilities:

About you:
To be considered for this role you’ll need an Accredited Debt Advice Qualification to Caseworker Level (Institute of Money Advisers Certificate of Money Advice or Community Money Advice Level 3 Award in Debt Advice or similar) with a minimum one-year experience of providing comprehensive Debt Advice in line with Financial Conduct Authority and Debt Advice Quality Framework. Or alternatively an accredited Generalist Adviser with at least one year’s experience and are willing to complete the relevant Debt Adviser training qualification.
You will have:
• A proactive approach, with the ability to manage multiple cases on an ongoing basis,
• Ability to independently manage own workload and delivering on project KPIs
• Support junior and trainee members of the team through coaching and mentorship

We are looking to recruit an Advice Supervisor with Welfare Rights or Housing experience to help us develop and expand our service to better meet the needs of vulnerable groups, and to maintain our agility to respond to emerging needs in the future. This is a new and exciting role in our Advice team that will supervise, and line manage Welfare Rights Specialists or Housing Advisors within the Advice Team. You will also provide a structured information, advice and casework service (including representation at tribunal where appropriate) to clients of the centre with complex housing or welfare rights issues. In addition to this, you will provide second tier advice and training in welfare rights or housing for generalist advisors and other staff/volunteers who are not specialists in those fields.
This is just one of the new posts we are recruiting as part of a new project to support families experiencing homelessness in and around Westminster. It follows a report we published last year on the lived experience of families living in temporary accommodation. We are delighted to have secured funding to help us build on this research and pilot different approaches to reach those most in need. We want to develop support that not only meets emergency needs but can enable longer term outcomes. Our aim is to build the case for positive change and reduce future rates of homelessness and poverty. In this role you can play a part in designing, testing and evidencing different approaches with a team of colleagues that cross different advice specialisms and professional family support.

As a Young Adult Intervention Coach (YIC), you will be responsible for the assessment and implementation of tailored intervention coaching plans for each at risk young person on your caseload. We are looking for someone who can successfully secure and steward gifts of 5 figures and above – so evidence of stewarding high-value relationships and high-quality written skills are key. You will collaborate with additional fundraisers across Trusts, Statutory, Corporate and Major Gifts to coordinate approaches and maximise opportunities across all functions.

You will enjoy variety. Your day could involve operational planning, developing a new campaign, briefing freelancers and agencies, finding compelling stories, creating our Impact Report, speaking with journalists, working on internal communications, or drafting social media posts.
The successful candidate will have strong emotional intelligence, relationship building and negotiation skills. They will be collaborative and creative, drive projects forward, work effectively alongside the Senior Digital Marketing Manager, and bring people together across the organisation. The Head of Corporate Partnerships is a key leadership role within the Income and Engagement Directorate. The Head of Corporate Partnerships has accountability for generating income, impact and influence from the private sector, and for leading a high-performing team to achieve ambitious growth and scale for refugees around the UK.
As Breaking Barriers has grown from a start-up organisation to a now 60-strong team raising c. £4m and supporting more than 1,200 refugees annually, our corporate partnerships have expanded beyond our original London base to be nationwide partnerships with a wide range of businesses and employers. The Head of Corporate Partnerships is an essential role that will make this ambition a reality.
You will lead a team to deliver outstanding partnerships management of a range of strategic and multi-faceted relationships with a portfolio of c.50 businesses alongside leading strategy for business development. Leading by example you will own a number of our key relationships to drive growth, whilst bringing your experience to bear to coach your team and ensure structures and processes are in place to enable high performance.
