Job description


To work with partner agencies (where appropriate) and carers living within Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan to provide individual, family and group counselling & support to carers who support a family member or friend with dementia.


  • To accept referrals from all sources across Cardiff and the Vale including self-referrals 
  • To assess the carer’s counselling needs and make suitable arrangements for the delivery of counselling sessions
  • To maintain appropriate, confidential records for the counselling service using Charitylog (CRM)
  • To promote the counselling service to relevant services, organisations and partner agencies throughout Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan
  • To work closely with colleagues to develop counselling related services across CTSEW
  • To attend and represent CTSEW at contract meetings and other meetings appropriate to the post.
  • To collate monitoring and reporting evaluation in accordance with the funding requirements and assist in producing quarterly reports 
  • To recruit, develop and manage a well-informed, trained, motivated and committed volunteer team to support the delivery of the counselling service when required
  • To identify potential new service users and hidden carers
  • To develop knowledge of local services and foster links with voluntary service providers, keeping up-to-date with any service changes and development 
  • Attending local forums and multi-agency groups with professionals and peers, sharing service information and representing carer issues 
  • Maintaining regular contact with support groups, and knowledge of communities’ activities
  • To organise and facilitate a minimum of two carers support groups (One of which to take place in the evening), two carers social groups and one group for ex carers each month
  • To organise and facilitate summer outings as well as an annual Christmas and Easter event for carers and the person they care for
