Job Title: Volunteer Manager

Location: Based in our central office in Islington (10 minute walk from Highbury and Islington station). You will work in a hybrid approach including regular service visits, office days, and home working. 

Salary: £37,000

Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:30. You may be required to work outside these hours as per requirements of the role.

About the role

This is a new role at SIG, thus a great opportunity to join our team in supporting with and managing the delivery and implementation of our National Volunteering Strategy. This role plays a pivotal role in shaping and producing a strategy which empowers leaders across the organisation to actively recruit, engage and retain volunteers within their services. You will develop and implement a volunteering strategy which is fit for use, realistic and transferrable throughout the organisation, with a structured programme which ensures a positive volunteer experience. 

• Lead the co-creation of the organisation’s National Volunteering Strategy in collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders.
• Define clear goals, priorities, and success measures for volunteering across the organisation.
• Develop a clear roadmap for implementation of a volunteer strategy, ensuring alignment with the Group’s wider mission and values.
• Work collaboratively with various teams from operations, people and culture, marketing, finance, and other central teams to support the strategy.
• Design and implement a consistent volunteer recruitment, onboarding and induction process, and manage the sharing of information across the organisation.
• Create and manage volunteer hiring workflows, and ensure these are fit for purpose, and that they align with wider strategies, and system implementation.
• Consult and engage with managers on a regular basis to fully understand and identify volunteering needs across services and co-design a diverse range of volunteer roles that add value and reflect local priorities.

To provide operational management of the Substance Misuse Through-the-Gate (SMTTG) programme, which supports Lambeth and Southwark women in custody and their transition back into the community. Media relations

Work Location/Hybrid Working Pattern:

This role will be based at our Head Office in central London. Mothers’ Union operates a hybrid working model. Staff are required to work an aggregate minimum of 90 days per calendar year (pro rata for part timers) at our Head Office, Mary Sumner House in central London. Tuesdays are our anchor days where every staff member is expected to be at the office. The 90 days includes anchor Tuesdays. In addition, Thursday is a core working day where part time staff are expected to work, either at home or from the office as needed.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role builds on the work of our Feminist Green New Deal  project. The Feminist Green New Deal puts the needs and priorities of women, racialised and marginalised groups at the heart of all climate policy and action and advocates for a care-led green recovery from our multiple crises of climate breakdown and inequality. The role will continue to develop our Feminist Green New Deal work engaging new audiences, stakeholders and writing new policy papers. 

As a Feminist Climate Justice Policy Campaigner you will make connections with policy makers, government departments, NGOs and influencers, bringing an intersectional feminist lens to these spaces. You will need to keep up to speed with UK climate policies and how these impact women. 

Wen works at the grassroots and policy level ensuring that grassroots perspectives are part of and shape climate policy making so a key part of the role will be linking these two levels.  You will work closely with our Climate Sisters  programme and the Tower Hamlets Food Partnership which inform our Feminist Green New Deal policy asks and campaigns, advocating for inclusive climate policy rooted in the priorities of women,  particularly racialised and marginalised groups.  We are looking to recruit a policy campaigner with in-depth  knowledge of the policy systems and strategic thinking about how to advocate for feminist climate justice at local, regional and national level in the UK working in collaboration with others.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Key responsibilities:

• Bring an intersectional feminist climate justice lens to policy makers and debates with a focus on climate, health, food justice and environmental policies

• Work collaboratively with Wen’s Climate Sisters team to make strong connections between the grassroots and policy, drafting and devising policy responses to influence government climate policy

• Develop strategic partnerships and relationships with MPs, government departments, All Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs), Ministers, Select Committees and key organisations in this field

• Submit evidence to Select Committee reports, inquiries and input into draft bills

• Actively engage with civil society movements around climate justice and policy

• Produce a variety of resources on the issues such as policy briefings, blogs, social media posts and talks

• Campaign on relevant policy debates on social media and other media working with the Wen comms team and influencers to communicate the issues to a wide range of audiences

• Identify, monitor, and evaluate policy issues appropriate to Wen 

• Travel and attend related policy work meetings, events and workshops as agreed 

Wen specific tasks

• Carry out all tasks in accordance with Wen’s Equal Opportunities Policy.

• Ensure all monitoring and evaluation is completed for funders and for internal Wen purposes.

Essential 

Education and qualifications:

• Degree level qualification or equivalent work experience

Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

• At least two years direct experience of policy, advocacy and campaigning on climate and social justice

• Experience of drafting policy briefs, blogs and social media engagement

• Extensive knowledge and understanding of intersectional feminist approaches to climate justice

• Experience of building effective collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders 

• Excellent written and oral communications skills; the ability to disseminate information to a wide range of audiences and across platforms

Main Purpose of Position:

To provide urgent information, advice and guidance support for individuals in dealing with complex interlinked issues through intensive 1-1 personalised support service. Ensure clients are equipped with the knowledge and understanding needed to make a tangible, material difference to their lives. Ensure excellence in project and service delivery throughout the Information, Advice and Guidance service and deliver work as an integral part of the organisation.  

Responsibilities/ Core Duties:

To provide a support service through 1-1 interview sessions, telephone contact, face-to-face and in-depth support with follow-up and record keeping. This post primarily involves providing focused support to help individuals deal with urgent financial, housing, health and benefits issues and provide ongoing support often acting as a conduit, with liaison, advocacy and referral to specialist agencies in health, housing, finance and debt advice, counselling, benefits, domestic violence, immigration and other legal matters. The post-holder must support Nova’s aims, objectives and ethos for clients, staff, senior managers and trustees.

About the Role

The Project Officer will join the US Death Penalty Project at Reprieve, working on Reprieve’s innovative Stop Lethal Injection Project operating at Reprieve’s Lethal Injection Information Center. The Stop Lethal Injection Project engages in investigation and analysis, supports and advises private sector partners in the healthcare industry, and undertakes public education focused on preventing the misuse of medicines in lethal injection executions and on exposing the myth of the humane execution.  The US Death Penalty Project Officer role is UK based and will work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in Reprieve US.  You will share our commitment to fighting against racism and advancing racial justice, and understand our responsibility to do our work in a way that does not compound racist structures.

Length and Salary

This is a full-time role, on a one-year fixed term contract, to cover parental leave. The annual salary is £42,193 per annum, less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance. 

This role is based in Reprieve’s London office. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work two days per week from the London office and the rest of the week from home. Applicants must have the current right to work in the UK, which will be checked prior to interview.

Your presence is important during core office hours, whether remotely or in the office. You will also be available outside of office hours in the event of an emergency, for example case developments that require urgent action. This is a role that may require travel and work outside of core office hours from time to time.

The Role

As Principal Legal Adviser (Maternity cover), you will collaborate with Uplift’s team and key partners to ensure that our collective work is underpinned by robust and forward-thinking legal and policy analysis. From identifying strategic litigation opportunities to advancing law reform advocacy, this is a diverse role that is key to our work.

Uplift has taken and supported high-profile climate litigation and used legal insight to generate front-page headlines linked to our campaigns. Most recently, we have won the legal case against the Rosebank oil field in the North Sea. We have also generated legal analysis to support a wider network to participate in vital public consultation processes.

The successful candidate will have exceptional legal and advocacy skills, an ability to think strategically about law and policy opportunities, and a keen interest in climate and energy-related policy and campaigns. A strong commitment to Uplift's mission and core values is also required.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include:

Strategy and leadership

• Responsible for the development and implementation of Uplift’s legal strategy.
• Lead the development of Uplift’s strategic legal work, including litigation, law reform advocacy, and legal advice and analysis, that advances Uplift’s objectives.
• Lead the delivery of work programmes - including management of diverse and complex litigation and associated legal campaigns/communications - in line with Uplift’s legal strategy.
• Identify and shape strategic litigation opportunities, providing legal analysis and support to external lawyers and experts throughout.

Analysis and legal advocacy

• Develop legal analysis to support campaign, communications and research strategies, including support for key partners.
• Analyse, interpret, and synthesise legal and policy developments to support the politics team and advise our network.
• Track ongoing legal and policy developments across Uplift’s core areas of interest to identify key opportunities and gaps.
• Provide fact-checking and ad-hoc legal research for the Uplift team to ensure accuracy in Uplift’s public communications.

Management and staff support

• Manage a team to deliver Uplift’s legal strategy and objectives, including Legal & Policy Adviser and Legal Campaigns Coordinator.
• Manage sub-grants, sub-contractors and arrangements with external lawyers where relevant.
• Oversee financial and budget management of key legal work programmes and campaigns, with support from Uplift’s senior management team. 
• Provide ad hoc high-level legal guidance and advice to Uplift’s senior management team on operational matters.

Our ideal candidate will have: 

• Experience in a similar or related role.
• A formal legal qualification, with a strong preference for previous experience in strategic litigation. Legal expertise in an area relevant to Uplift’s legal work is essential: environmental or climate law, public law (including administrative law) and/or just energy transitions.
• Experience of working and advising on policy areas linked to Uplift’s agenda would be a significant asset.
• A demonstrable ability to provide compelling and novel analysis, including defining and executing strategic legal projects.
• Motivation, initiative, exceptionally high standards, a collaborative approach, and associated qualities are needed to work in a dynamic organisation with an ambitious agenda.

As the Monitoring & Data Officer, you’ll support the Monitoring & Data Manager and Coordinator to validate, clean, and manage programme data. • Validate and clean incoming data from local partners, identifying and flagging any errors or inconsistencies using tools such as Excel and Salesforce. 

• Conduct regular (weekly and monthly) checks on submitted data to ensure accuracy and assess progress against set targets. 

• Maintain and update all impact data, ensuring all records are accurate and complete. 

• Assist in testing and reviewing both new and existing data systems to ensure proper functionality, support the addition of new fields and adjustments as needed. 

• Support data validation during data collection rounds by reviewing data collection tools. 

• Liaise with local partners and internal teams to clarify discrepancies or follow up on incomplete submissions. 

• Be proactive in helping strengthen the monitoring systems.
