Herts Young Homeless is an independent charity and has been supporting vulnerable people in Hertfordshire since 1998. We are professional, passionate, collaborative and supportive charity that provides guidance to everyone who is in need of support.

Herts Young Homeless (hyh) are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic youth engagement worker to join our charity. hyh's strategic aim is to 'Be More Youth Led' and this role is crucial in supporting that commitment. The right candidate will be fun, open-minded, tech savvy and enjoy working using their own initiative. They will be passionate about youth engagement and motivated to translate youth ideas into actionable plans for the charity.

This role will facilitate a variety of fun and meaningful engagement opportunities for young people to have a voice on decisions that affect them. The successful candidate will create open, safe and inclusive spaces for young people, to enable them to form and express their voice on issues that are important to them and to hyh. The youth engagement worker will have the opportunity to inform, develop and grow our youth engagement offer; if successful this may lead to professional development opportunities such as line management of volunteers and staff.

What can you bring to the team?

• Candidates Must have a full clean driving license and use of own vehicle for business purposes
• Co-facilitate annual ‘Youth Summits’; consulting young people from across the county on issues related to the charity/youth homelessness.
• Launch and facilitate a youth advisory board (online and in person). Act as an advocate to deliver key youth board messages to our leadership team and board.
• Co-ordinate work experience and apprenticeship opportunities for young people.
• Organise and co-facilitate social events for our young people.
• Support our young housemates in completing ASDAN qualifications.
• Support the content of our digital communication to young people.
• Complete relevant data to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of youth engagement work.
• Ensure youth engagement and coproduction is considered at all levels of the organisation to ensure decision making is youth informed where appropriate.
• Develop new an innovative ways of involving hyh services users in shaping our services and coproducing our work.
• Ensure good ‘youth voice’ communication across all hyh services, providing updates at service team meetings.
• Co-ordinate young people’s involvement in staff recruitment, training and induction
• Establish and maintain good working relationships with external organisations and professionals.

About the role 

As a Housing and Homelessness Practitioner, you will be part of the coaching team to help motivate members with varying levels of engagement within the Skylight; some practice will be planned and structured with others more complex and requiring a multi-agency response.

The key to success will be your ability to integrate with the client services teams on a day-to-day basis; to make collaborative, consistent and psychologically informed relationships with colleagues and members.

About you 

As part of the Lead Worker team you have a real opportunity to demonstrate your empathy for people experiencing homelessness.   Sometimes members are distressed by their situation and this role would suit someone who is resilient, tenacious, compassionate, and creative. You will work as part of a busy team in a fast-paced environment and an ability to communicate effectively and prioritise competing demands are essential. 

You will have experience in homelessness (directly or within a relevant sector) and have demonstratable skills in understanding homelessness legislation and advocating on behalf of people. We know that there are many factors that play a significant part in someone's homelessness including issues with health and wellbeing, financial security, social networks etc. Experience of offering support in these areas is essential and transferable skills welcome. 

You will have a track record of working with partner agencies, developing, maintaining strong working relationships, and collaborating to achieve the best outcomes for members.    

You will be interested in evolving your skills and playing an active role as we continue to develop our service and coaching principles further.  

You will need to align with our organisational values that hold us accountable in assisting our members to improve and relieve their homelessness and demonstrate this through your work and behaviours.

About the role:

We are excited to be taking the lead in the London Whole Housing Service Partnership (LWHSP) which will address and enhance the pathways of housing support for women experiencing domestic abuse, from removing them from immediate harm, to enabling recovery and resettlement across all levels of need. The LWHSP are seeking to build on our delivery across 11 East and West London boroughs of the Whole Housing Approach (WHA).

The Housing IDVA will work within a dynamic, fast paced, crisis intervention, advocacy and support service to ensure the voice of survivors informs every stage of the process. You will specialise in working with clients for whom housing, and risk of tenancy breakdown is a factor. You will work within the team to make proactive contact and provide high quality advocacy and support based upon a client led needs and risk assessment to women, focusing on working with those aged 18 and over who access the domestic abuse service. You will hold a caseload of survivors and will also be required to work as part of Advance’s duty team on a rota basis which will involve completing intake assessments and providing crisis intervention support.

About You:

As a Housing IDVA, you will need to have a degree of flexibility for colocation work across London boroughs; providing support to women who have experienced domestic violence, focusing on individuals with housing or tenancy issues. Working in our fast-paced crisis intervention, advocacy and support service, you’ll ensure the voice of survivors informs every stage of the process. You will have your own caseload of survivors and will focus on working with those aged 18 and over who access our domestic abuse service. 

You will bring experience in providing independent domestic violence advocacy and support for women who approach housing advice and assessment for help. Ideally experience in working with housing service providers, and advising women of their rights and options for seeking help and support from other agencies. You will have the ability to develop individual safety and support plans in-line with the clients’ needs and the risks they face.

The Talent Set are delighted to be working with London's Air Ambulance Charity, supporting them to recruit a Deputy Head of Philanthropy (Trusts) maternity cover. This role will start at a key time in strategy development and long term planning, as they enter the final phase of their incredibly successful Up Against Time Appeal to replace their two helicopters.

As they enter the final phase of the appeal, having raised £11.5m of their £15m target (with a number of further pledges confirmed) this role will focus on developing the long term Trusts fundraising strategy. As Deputy Head of Philanthropy you will be tasked with considering the opportunities presented by the new 15 year organisational strategy, and contributing to the wider Philanthropy, Partnerships and Events team plans to ensure they have a strong footing as they look to the long term and next 15 years of London's Air Ambulance Charity. 

As Deputy Head of Philanthropy you will not only lead on strategy development but also build and develop the Trusts pipeline, leading and developing the Trusts and Prospect Research teams to improve internal processes and influence/respond to upcoming fundraising opportunities. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the Trusts and Prospect Research teams and programmes through a year of maternity cover, ensuring both areas are in a strong position on the return of the substantive postholder. 
• Act as LAAC's Trust and Lead Gift (£500k+) fundraising expert, leading the Trusts and Prospect Research teams to be ambitious and consider the long term funding opportunities for the charity. 
• Lead the team through the transition from the Up Against Time Appeal to focus on the new 15 year organisational strategy and opportunities it presents to develop the pipeline for new projects.
• Take ownership of the Trusts, Foundations and Statutory pipeline, leading income generation from these sources with a personal focus on £100k+ opportunities, while informing the organisation's approach to restricted fundraising opportunities.
• Support the development of direct reports and wider Philanthropy, Partnerships and Events team. 

Person Specification:

• Strong sector knowledge and technical expertise of Trust fundraising, with experience of securing £100k+ support from trusts, foundations and/or statutory sources. 
• Demonstrable experience of developing and fundraising for restricted projects, monitoring income and expenditure budgets.
• Effective pipeline development skills and the ability to support a Prospect Research function to identify new opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic communications: Lead the strategic evolution of our global communications as a critical component of our strategies to make change happen. • Drive and execute innovative, advocacy-oriented communications: Work with senior management, regional and thematic teams to drive a dynamic approach to communications, alongside spotting proactive and reactive opportunities, building higher-level relationships with journalists and partners, and developing tactical approaches. Play an active role in executing impactful, advocacy-oriented communications strategies for key products and events.
• Digital action platform and technology: Work with the Web Content and Digital Officer to manage the development of the Resource Centre’s leading multi-functional digital platform, and our substantial data as compelling evidence. Develop an understanding of the organisation’s target audiences and ensure we deliver features that effectively support them to effectively organise and present their research data and promote human rights in business.
• Programme design and fundraising: Work with our development (fundraising) team and programme leads to ensure communications, and digital technology work is built into project design and budget, and that funders’ information needs are well-served.

Key competencies and attributes

Strategic communication: At least 5 years’ experience delivering top class communications and expert understanding of how strategic communications deliver change. Demonstrable experience in strategy design and execution. Sharp news sense and editorial judgement; strong grasp of the power of social media to make change happen; and a global perspective to communications.

People manager: At least 3 years’ experience in line management. Experience in nurturing and sustaining a high performing team that thrives in a diverse, and global context. Demonstrable success in supporting project teams to deploy communications strategically for impact.

Project manager: Track record of leading and/or implementing complex communications projects including planning, execution, and evaluation. Demonstratable success planning communications for a busy organisation working closely with allies.

Digital technology & data: Experience of design and delivery of website, digital tools, and data to make change happen. Experience of working with developers to manage and maintain a website.

Human rights, and economic justice expertise: Familiarity with social justice or human rights issues and a willingness to keep up to date. Experience communicating economic justice and human rights issues desirable.

Team player: Experience of, and commitment to, working in high-performing teams that are highly collaborative and focused on outcomes. Experience of working with colleagues remotely, and in multicultural and diverse working environments desirable.

The work will focus on preventing domestic abuse by providing support and facilitating safe space for children and young people and peer support networks in the refuge and supporting children and young people to keep safe in/maintain their refuge accommodation

To establish resettlement services to support women and children to move on from refuge accommodation.

Walking and working alongside our partners, you will strengthen, develop, and manage relationships with a varied portfolio of local partner organisations, churches, and local stakeholders to deliver high-impact programmes to benefit communities in need of assistance - helping them to realise their God-given potential.  Sharing their compassion for Christ, you will work strategically with Partners to support their proposal development and delivery of high-impact, locally-owned projects.  You will be responsible for grant management, ensuring organisational governance and controls provide accountability both locally and internationally, including safeguarding practise.

We are looking for someone to join us in strengthening relationships with our broad base of local Christian partner organisations carrying out Gospel inspired work in the region.  Who can bring experience of managing, monitoring and evaluation of locally-owned programmes, to support the development of high-impact projects.  Has an understanding and awareness of the context, dynamics, and challenges of working in the Middle East. Alongside the skills and ability to identify compelling messages from partnership communications to gain support, through prayer, donations and support for our advocacy work. 

Suitable candidates will be:

• Educated to degree level equivalent.

• Inspired by the witness of Christians in the Middle East and passionate about changing the lives of people living in grinding poverty, injustice, disability, trauma and displacement caused by conflict, and other challenges.
• Willing to carry out overseas travel to the region 3-4 times a year.

• Advanced or intermediate Arabic would be advantageous.

This role is based at our centre a short walk from Clapham Common tube station, in London. We support homeless people from the local area and further afield. Our services are open access, so the people who come to the Ace of Clubs are diverse and from multiple walks of life. Consequently their needs can be complex, so we are looking for a skilled communicator who can support people, many of who live chaotic lifestyles. Our purpose at the Ace of Clubs is to address people’s basic human needs by providing food, clothing, toiletries, and practical support. We help people link up with housing, healthcare, education, and employment. Our Support Workers work to help individuals overcome barriers to achieving wellbeing, whether it be through guidance in the support system, learning new skills or supporting service users to build the confidence and skills to enable them to navigate their life challenges and advocate for themselves. At Tearfund, we know that in disasters and crises, the local church plays a critical role. Present before, during and after an emergency, churches can and do have a significant impact on disaster risk reduction and resilience building. 

The purpose of this role is to lead our global advocacy strategy so that governments and institutional donors adopt locally-led and faith based approaches to humanitarian responses through research, lobbying, coalition working, media and campaigning and by working closely with country programmes to support their national advocacy. 

Key areas of focus for the postholder would be:

• Strengthening our evidence base and developing policy positions

We are recruiting a part time Advice Worker – Asylum Support, £37,616 pro rata, hybrid working,

We are seeking an experienced Asylum Support Advice Worker to help deliver our new maternity health justice partnership targeting refugee and asylum seeking women in Greater Manchester and East Cheshire.

About Maternity Action

Established in 2008, Maternity Action protects and strengthens the rights of pregnant women and new parents to employment, social security and healthcare, irrespective of migration status.

We employ specialist employment and asylum/immigration lawyers who represent women who experience maternity discrimination at work, difficulties in accessing maternity pay and benefits or are wrongly charged for their NHS maternity care. We provide second tier advice to NGOs on housing and subsistence for refugee, asylum seeking and migrant women. We support strategic litigation within our areas of expertise. Our policy and campaigning work is driven by the injustice we see from our advice services. We prioritise issues affecting low income and marginalised women, including migrant and asylum seeking women.

Maternity Action has grown over the past four years and we are now a team of 26. We are passionate about our work, but we are committed to our staff having a genuine work life balance. The majority of our employees have some form of caring responsibilities and Maternity Action is a genuinely flexible employer. 22 of our 26 staff work part time and staff are located across the UK. We have recently expanded our operations and have developed two Health Justice Partnerships with NHS Trusts.  We are funded by a variety of large charitable funders, smaller grant making organisations and unions.

About the role

We have secured funding for a 12 month pilot maternity health justice partnership targeting refugee and asylum seeking women in Greater Manchester and East Cheshire.  This is the first UK maternity health justice partnership targeting this group of women.  We have an existing maternity health justice partnership in Greater Manchester and East Cheshire which advises on employment rights, maternity pay and mainstream benefits.

You will deliver advice to pregnant women and new mothers on Home Office support and healthcare entitlements and provide ongoing advice and support where needed.  You will also refer to other support services as needed, including food banks, baby banks and community groups.  You will deliver outreach and engagement sessions to maternity services and voluntary organisations, working with our Outreach and Engagement Officer.  You will also contribute to the development, monitoring and evaluation of the pilot. The role will keep up to date with asylum support and related developments.

This role forms part of our Immigration and Asylum Advice team, which is led by our Senior Legal Officer.  The team consists of a Legal Officer, Senior Project Officer and Casework Support Officer.  The role will coordinate with the advice and outreach workers delivering our employment and benefits maternity health justice partnership in the region.

About you

We are looking for an experienced adviser with a thorough knowledge of asylum support and experience of liaising with the Home Office and Migrant Help.  You will have experience of delivering complex advice, preferably by telephone, of advocating on behalf of vulnerable client groups and working with interpreters.  You will have an excellent phone manner and the ability to deal with discussions of sensitive health issues.

We particularly welcome applications from Black and minoritised ethnic candidates and from people with lived experience of pregnancy or parenting, low income or migration.  We welcome applications from people returning from a career break.

Working arrangements

The post is 21 hours per week.  There is a core day (Thursday) and we are otherwise flexible about start/finish time and days worked, within normal business hours. 

The post can be delivered through a mix of home and office based working and will involve outreach sessions.  Office location is likely to be in Hulme, Manchester.  You must be based in the North West.

Salary is £37,616 pro rata plus 8% pension.

This is a 12 month post with the possibility of extension

Position: Programme Coordinator: Empowering fishing communities in the Global South

The Role

Coordinating and building capacity for coastal communities to protect their marine environment.

This is a rare opportunity to join our dynamic, impactful international team, which is working to protect our global ocean and the people and biodiversity dependent upon it. The Coordinator will lead an innovative multi-year programme supported by the EU to train, equip, and empower small-scale fishing communities. The programme will help to protect fish stocks and marine biodiversity from illegal, unsustainable fishing in 15 countries across the Global South.

The programme will include the rollout of a ‘Global Toolkit’ that gives fishing communities innovative, practical equipment, training, and support to help end illegal fishing. Capacity building will include using EJF’s DASE app, which enables fishers to document and report illegal fishing. This app will be accompanied by insightful practical guidance to strengthen local governance and advocacy to protect inshore waters relied upon by coastal communities.

Supported by two regional coordinators and drawing on EJF’s decades of experience in activist training and field programmes in West Africa and Asia, the role will oversee the Toolkit’s introduction to at least 15 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Pacific.

The programme seeks someone who is a superb, experienced coordinator and manager, able to give remote support and guidance to multiple local teams overseas and track and monitor the programme’s implementation and the Toolkit’s effectiveness against agreed KPIs. The role will involve some travel to kickstart projects, assess and evaluate implementation over time and propose adjustments and further iterations of the Toolkit according to feedback and shared learning. We seek a proactive, creative and determined problem solver who will capitalise on new opportunities and ensure we exceed expectations.

Building strong, trusted and proactive relationships at the grassroots level and facilitating partnerships and information-sharing with national and community-based civil society groups in each country will be essential. The role requires a natural diplomat, able to lead discussions with government officials at the local and national level. The Coordinator will lead the grant, reporting to the EU as the funder and other major stakeholders, including national governments.

As the global lead, the Coordinator will be a superb, confident and inspiring communicator, in writing and person, able to give visibility to the programme's beneficiaries and partners and its impacts. The role will work closely with EJF’s film and comms teams, devising outputs including events at grassroots and national levels that will be effective and influential at reaching their target audiences, sharing success stories and inspiring additional uptake and support.
