Job description

About the Role:

Bankside Open Spaces Trust (BOST) protects, preserves and enhances green spaces in London SE1 and surrounding area. We are recruiting a Parks Coordinator to join our friendly and enthusiastic Parks and Community Team to champion these parks and ensure they are kept to a high standard of maintenance and horticultural excellence. This is an exciting and varied role working with an award winning environmental and community charity in Central London. BOST manages over 13 open spaces, holding the lease to five parks. We manage these spaces through volunteer and community involvement with four holding community Green Flag Awards. We are looking for a person with a passion for community projects and transforming open spaces.

As Parks Coordinator you will be delivering the gardening volunteer sessions, including Christ Church Gardens and Crossbones Garden. You will need to be practically minded and have experience of leading people in an outdoor setting and have good horticultural and maintenance knowledge.  Safety is paramount, you must have in-depth tool safety knowledge, carry out relevant risk assessments for gardening activities and adhere to health and safety guidelines.

We are seeking a people person with excellent leadership and mentoring skills. You will have experience of working with a range of people from different backgrounds and varying levels of need. You will have the ability to create a safe and welcoming environment for volunteers.

You will be responsible for leading the Christ Church Garden meetings, discussing ways to improve this garden. The ability to communicate and work with a range of stakeholders is required, verbally and in writing. You will have report writing skills and ensure monitoring is completed for your sessions.

Working with the Park Manager, you will carry out the day to day maintenance of the gardens, including independent gardening, litter picking, ordering equipment and working with Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams ensuring the parks are clean, well-maintained and safe.

You must be able to work as a team and support other staff in their projects when needed. The work is a mixture of office work and outdoor delivery on sites.

About BOST:

Bankside Open Spaces Trust (BOST) is an environmental and volunteering charity, improving the SE1 area, making it a greener, more beautiful place to live and work. We manage and maintain open spaces, welcome volunteers from both the community and the corporate sector, run regular gardening groups, support park steering groups, organise and take part in public events and educational projects, and offer advice to others. We collaborate closely with local residents and businesses to champion green spaces. Thousands of people enjoy our open spaces every day. Each of our sites is unique, with its own atmosphere and sense of place. Our spaces include Red Cross Garden, Marlborough Sports Garden, Waterloo Millennium Green and Tate Community Garden. None of our work would be possible without our incredible team, our trustees, our board members, local residents and volunteers, local partners and the continued support from The London Boroughs of Southwark and Lambeth.

Our spaces have won more than 32 awards, including Community Green Flag Award, RHS and London in Bloom Awards, The UNESCO Man and Biosphere award, and the MPGA London Spade for our community gardening partnerships.
