About you and the role

This is a pivotal role, at a pivotal moment for us. We are entering a critical growth phase, which includes rapidly expanding our own operations and managing significant external partnership. As Head of Finance & Systems, you will be accountable for ensuring we have the right systems and structures in place to grow at pace without detriment to good governance.

The purpose of this role is to lead on our finance strategy, and ensure all of our systems, reporting and processes are helping to drive forward the charity and deliver on our objectives at scale. You will work closely with the Chief Executive and Directors to ensure that financial planning is effective and supported by accurate data analysis. You will report directly to Trustees as required and ensure that the highest standards of transparency and probity are maintained. 

You will be joining the team during a period of growth in the size and complexity of our delivery. We currently have 24 employees and anticipate growing significantly in the next twelve months. You will have a crucial role in shaping our systems and processes to ensure we can scale effectively, both our existing programmes and a new membership-based programme that is in development. We’re looking for an experienced finance professional with an interest in effectively using technology and systems to drive efficiency, without compromising on accuracy or compliance. 

You will oversee all financial administration, ensuring this is carried out proficiently and in line with all legal and regulatory requirements, including ultimate responsibility for ensuring that all statutory filings are made accurately and on time. Your role will also encompass ensuring that we operate within legal & regulatory frameworks and stay up to date with changes in relevant legislation.

Key responsibilities:

• Developing a comprehensive financial strategy that supports the delivery of the charity’s objectives and activities

• Developing our systems strategy, including reviewing suitability of our current systems (Quickbooks for accountancy, Beacon CRM, PLEO for expenses management, Survey Monkey for data collection etc. ) and ensuring optimal use of systems, maximising automation, and using AI where appropriate.

• Constantly seeking to develop and improve the organisation’s financial systems, policies and procedures to promote dynamic, best practice and up-to-date application of tools, systems and approaches

• Leading and developing the Finance and Office Manager and ensuring effective support from the external book-keeping team.

• Lead on creation of the annual budget, working closely with Directors.

• Advising the Chief Executive, team and Trustees, ensuring that benefits and risks of decisions are fully considered and fit with the overall financial strategy

• Oversee sound financial administration, management and governance across the organisation, ensuring robust financial controls in place and operating effectively.

• Provide leadership and guidance to all things finance related, providing mentoring and support to the team, and coaching on financial awareness. 

• Accountability for monitoring that the organisation’s services are, and will, run to budget, supporting budget holders and reporting promptly on risks 

• Have ultimate oversight of the external audit and production of the statutory accounts, supported in delivery of this by the Finance & Office Manager

• Oversee production of management accounts and bespoke financial reports, including accurate forecasting, incisive analysis and accessible narrative commentary, ensuring decision-makers have the information they need. 

• Forecasting cash flow and managing the treasury position.

• Support the Partnerships & Impact team and Programme Managers with financial inputs to funding proposals and ensure restricted funds are used in compliance with grant conditions.

• Oversight of finance, governance and basic HR administration, supporting the Finance and Office Manager with high profile or complex queries, seeking specialist advice on financial or compliance matters as required

• Ensuring GDPR compliance across the organisation

• Leading an effective risk management process.

• Ensuring the organisation’s compliance with charity law, in accordance with the Charity Commission in England & Wales and all financial reporting requirements.

Skills & experience:

• You have interest and belief in our mission, to improve kids’ health through improving food and food education in schools

• You have full or partial qualification through an accredited accountancy body 

• You have experience in a senior finance role (e.g., Director, Head of) in any sector, and some experience within a finance function in the 3rd sector (in particular familiarity with Charities SORP and experience of administering restricted funds).

• You enjoy a mix of leadership and rolling up sleeves to get hands on 

• You take a pragmatic and dynamic approach to robust financial management

• You can turn complex and dry data, into clear and engaging narrative 

• You have project managed the implementation of new systems (accountancy / CRM / data) and have a good awareness of new technologies

• You are organised, methodical, strong on detail, and able to map out deadlines and plan ahead 

• You are skilled in leading a team and building rapport with people, and strike a balance between being supportive and challenging

Age UK Richmond upon Thames is a local independent charity supporting older people across the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. We provide a wide range of useful and well utilised local services in Richmond upon Thames designed to improve wellbeing and enhance independence – including information & advice; a wide range of social & wellbeing centres and sessions; support after hospital discharge; digital skills development; Dementia Friendly Richmond; mental health peer support and home services such as handyperson, housekeeping and gardening. Our Information & Advice service is a central part of our organisation. Our small team of staff supported by excellent volunteers provide free and confidential Information & Advice to older people across the borough on a range of topics. The main area of support is to claim welfare benefits and other forms of financial support – but also includes a range of other topics such as accessing care & support; independent living; sorting out paperwork and housing.  

We currently have an excellent opportunity for a Welfare Benefits Advisor to join the team.  The role will include: 

• Providing welfare benefits & financial advice, including advising older people on the financial support available, making applications on their behalf and following through applications to result.

• Providing Information & Advice on other topics older people require support with.

• Providing support via home visits, over the phone and in community settings.

We support all people who have experienced forced migration, regardless of their proximity to the labour market, to develop the skills and access the opportunities they need to secure sustainable and meaningful employment. We deliver STEP across the UK, through local partners in communities in person, and through our online programme – STEP Online.

We now have an opportunity for a remote Employment Advisor to join the STEP Online team. You will be working with participants, providing high quality 1:1 advice and guidance and delivering group employability workshops, with the aim of coaching individuals and supporting them on their journey into employment that suits their previous experience and skill set.

You will prepare participants for employment and help them to achieve their chosen training and employment objectives. You will work to a variety of performance targets based on the progression outcomes of clients such as successful delivery of workshops, completion of training courses, volunteering, and achieving and sustaining paid employment.   

About you

Job description

We are looking for someone to provide key administrative support for our local and community energy projects. The post holder will help to build relationships and ensure robust administration, focussing primarily on our grant schemes and capacity building work with community organisations.

Pay and conditions

• The role is full-time (37.5 hours per week).
• The salary for the role will be £25,600 - £29,147.

Specific responsibilities

An applicant appointed to the role will be expected to:

• To play a key role in co-ordinating our grant giving for community organisations, including having direct communications with grantees, tracking payments, monitoring delivery, and maintaining records.
• To liaise with a range of stakeholders, potentially including community groups, local authorities, town and parish councils, and neighbourhood planning groups.
• To support the planning, promotion and delivery of training sessions, workshops and events.
• To represent CSE on a range of projects, in external in-person and online meetings and events.
• To support promotion of CSE projects, activities, reports and publications to ensure effective engagement with the target audience.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People has been creating life-changing partnerships between hearing dogs and deaf recipients since 1982. Following on from a strategic review, the charity is now looking to build a new Income Generation Directorate, to enable them to transform many more lives across the UK. The Head of Commercial will play a central role in this growth, helping Hearing Dogs deliver their goals to diversify income and expand their philanthropic and commercial programmes.

The position of Head of Commercial is a strategic role within the new team, looking beyond traditional fundraising and identifying commercially viable opportunities that can deliver both financial return and social impact, whilst aligning with the charity’s mission and values. Working across departments within the organisation, the post-holder will seek and assess the viability of areas of work for commercial income generation, developing pilot projects and reviewing existing commercial activity at Hearing Dogs, as well as the actions required to increase profitability.

The successful candidate will have proven experience in commercial development, business planning or innovation in a charity, social enterprise or private sector organisation. They will also have demonstrable success in scoping new products or services and developing robust business cases. Strong commercial acumen will be a must, alongside a strategic mindset and an entrepreneurial approach. Finally, they will possess excellent analytical, financial modelling and project management skills, as well as being a confident communicator able to influence senior stakeholders and make the case for investment.

The Communities Lead will lead the development and delivery of the Communities of Hope strand of the project. You’ll ensure that the Hope and Healing network, practitioners and activists have support and guidance to deliver an approach to community work that is trauma-informed and community-led.

You will manage the Hope and Healing Practitioners (likely from Year 2) and support partners in local communities. You'll work together to build capacity within local community pilots and projects, whilst also building wider connections at different levels of local systems to bring about meaningful and sustainable change.

You will play a key role in supporting project partners as well as local partners and activists, enhancing their knowledge of trauma-informed, strengths-based and asset-based community development approaches. You will help ensure that learning is gathered and disseminated, including examples of theory into practice. 

You will be a person who can connect with communities in a meaningful way and who understands the pressures and realities for practitioners on the ground. You’ll be able to take the lead from what is strong, and bring local resources, assets and different people together to create hope and conditions for community-led healing.  You’ll share your experience and expertise to help develop our wider work at Platfform.

We work with people experiencing challenges with their mental health, and with communities who want to create a greater sense of wellbeing in the places that they live. Through our projects, we work with thousands of people each year.

Day-to-day you will manage the SHOAL database as the person responsible for collecting, collating and presenting the data relevant to all of SHOAL’s activities, partners, programmes and projects.

The primary set of data you will be managing is the SHOAL 1,000 Fishes Database. This is a database of more than 2,000 fish species that will require constant updates on their conservation status from experts and partners.

You will be a key person in collaborating with potentially hundreds of partners across the world to ensure that our database of priority species adequately reflects the action on the ground for each species.

About the Role

This is an exciting new role which will help the Methodist Church in Britain to embed in the life of churches its commitment to be justice-seeking. 

In 2024, the Church adopted a Strategy to embed the Methodist Conference’s Justice-Seeking Church Report in local churches, across the Connexional Team and throughout the life of Methodism. 

The Justice-Seeking Church Officer will shape and develop this work across all levels of the Church in creative and innovative ways, identifying opportunities and responding to challenges.  They will strengthen leadership for justice across churches, and enable collaboration across programmes and issues. They will enable theological reflection and will lead on shaping the vital emerging work around participation of people with lived experience of poverty.

You will be a member of the Justice Team but work collaboratively with many others. You will also be part of the wider Mission Team, playing a key role in the implementing its strategy in response to Our Calling and the Methodist Way of Life.

In this post, you will focus on the following priorities:

• Developing and embedding key areas of the Justice-Seeking Church strategy in churches and the Methodist Connexional Team
• Strengthening leadership in social justice and social action
