Job description

Director of Community, Partnerships & Access

Charterhouse is a beautiful school and a wonderful place to live and work. It was founded in 1611 and moved to its present magnificent 250 acre site near Godalming in 1872. The School has over 800 pupils aged between 13 and 18, all of whom, except for about 40 ‘day boarders’, are boarders.

The Director of Community, Partnerships and Access is a member of the School’s Senior Leadership Team, enabling them to take an operational lead in the School’s relationship with the local and wider community, its public benefit contribution, its social responsibility profile (including links with charities) and the pupils’ contribution to community action projects in the UK and abroad. The role also takes the lead in liaising with external bursary funding organisations and in ensuring a pipeline of transformational bursary applicants.

The successful candidate is likely to have a track-record of delivering community-linked collaborative projects, preferably (though not necessarily exclusively) in relation to education and independent/maintained sector links and a proven ability to galvanizing people within an organisation to contribute to social responsibility projects or similar.

For the right candidate, this role could combine with a reduced teaching role (around 14 periods per week) in a suitable subject and would suit someone looking for promotion to Deputy Head and/or Headship in due course. Equally, for the right candidate, this role could be a non-teaching role where precise hours are flexible but would average to around 37.5 hours/week all year round, with the expectation that hours will peak significantly during term time, including a requirement for work on Saturday mornings and occasional evening and other weekend commitments. International travel will also be required.

Charterhouse offers a competitive salary and other benefits including contributory pension, membership of the School’s Sports Club and private medical insurance.

For more information and to apply, please download the application pack from our website.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Monday 10 February 2020 and interviews will take place shortly thereafter.

The post-holders will be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children with whom they come into contact. They must ensure compliance with the School's Child Protection Policy Statement at all times. These appointments will be subject to checks with the Disclosure and Barring Service and with past employers.
