IRW is recruiting for the position of ‘Director of People & Culture' to join its dynamic People and Culture Division based in its offices in Birmingham, UK. The organisation is operating to hybrid working model.
The purpose of the role is to:
•Deliver a focused HR service to provide strategic direction and leadership to support the organisation-wide HR planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that the overall organisational objectives are achieved.
•Strengthen IRW’s relations with the wider community to consolidate and develop the visibility and image of the organisation.
•Facilitate professional and systematic communication and cooperation between the different parts of the IRW family to ensure maximum impact of the organisation’s work.
•Lead on the development, implementation and regular review of the divisional strategy, policies & procedures, processes, work plans and systems to achieve the agreed divisional objectives.
•Lead, manage and develop staff in order to ensure that the divisional is capable of fully achieving its agreed targets, and to provide HR specialist and strategic advice to partners as and when required.
The successful candidate must have or be:
•CIPD membership at Chartered or Fellow level or equivalent experience
•Sound understanding of UK employment law is essential
•Sound understanding and proven experience of HR processes, including but not limited to, change management, organisational development, ER case work, resourcing, compensation and benefits, policy development
•Proven experience of HR business partnering and substantial skills and experience of HR management at a senior level within in a large organisation
•A good understanding, commitment and sympathy with Islamic Relief’s Values, principles and mission
•Proven ability and experience in people and activity management as well as delegating roles and authority in a way in which enables teams to reach their targets/objectives
•Proven experience of developing and implementing strategies and work plans which help to deliver the wider organisational objectives
•Ability to guide staff development towards achieving key performance indicators
•Demonstrable experience in consultative team approaches to decision-making and innovation which motivates and drives teams forward
•Proven ability and experience in analysing data which enables sound conclusions and recommendations to be drawn to work in a way which always considers long-term goals whilst maintaining an overview of its immediate situation
•Track record of working in partnership with senior leadership teams, based on a coaching approach
• Up-to-date knowledge of current employment legislation, awareness of forthcoming employment legislation
•High level of competence in all aspects of managing employee relations
•Sound financial and time management which enables strategic goals to be achieved within budgetary constraints
•Ability and motivation to travel within UK and internationally if required

About the team
This role sits within Shelter’s Technology and Data Department (T&D), encompassing IT, Data and Insight, Data Compliance and Business Enablement, the department is made up of circa 50 people based in across the country with bases in London, Sheffield and Edinburgh. This role will report directly to the Assistant Director of Technology and Data and will be required to work closely with several senior stakeholders across Shelter.

The Role
This role is new to the organisation and so the right candidate will be able to shape the role and make their mark in a growing organisation. You will work closely with the Programmes and Partnerships department, helping to bring to life the work the team are doing to improve patient outcomes, support workforce wellbeing and help communities to live well.
Alongside this, the role will support the Assistant Director of External Affairs and Communications with the coordination and planning of large-scale communications activities, taking birds eye view of across the organisation and working with key internal stakeholders to design integrated ways of working that help to tell one story.
About You
We need a self-starter, strategic planner, and creative thinker to help build integration into communications planning and deliver smart communications activity that demonstrates the impact we have in the NHS.
The ideal candidate will have worked at a senior communications professional level, had experience of working across multiple programmes or projects, understand the fundaments of strategic communications planning and have excellent stakeholder relationship skills.
You will have experience of:
- Leading and implementing stakeholder management and influencing strategies with demonstrable results, ideally in a membership organisation.
- Working in a politically sensitive environment at a senior level and dealing with senior stakeholders in a variety of organisations, including central Government.
- Delivering internal and external communications strategies to achieve specific objectives
- Experience or an understanding of the voluntary sector.
- Developing and delivering integrated influencing campaigns, working with multiple partners and stakeholders.
- Co-production, collaboration and partnership working.

We are seeking a talented and imaginative marketer to join our Fundraising Marketing Team. The successful applicant will work closely with the Fundraising Marketing Manager and Communications and Marketing Assistant to deliver all income generation communications and marketing activity across Birmingham Hospice.
We are looking for a proactive individual who takes the initiative, can effectively prioritise and has a proven ability to meet tight deadlines. You will play a vital role in the planning, implementing and development of fundraising campaigns, events and appeals. From designing print artwork and writing copy, to managing case studies and photography, as well as creating web pages and online forms, this is a varied post for a creative individual.
With a solid background in marketing, copywriting and storytelling, you’ll be responsible for sourcing and producing engaging and inspiring content that are integral to our campaigns. You’ll have experience working with email marketing software and implementing successful email marketing strategies as well as analysing campaign engagement. Knowledge of social media, video editing and graphic design are an advantage.
You will be responsible for creating online pages and forms on our website, as well as monitoring and maintaining the site. A strong skillset in web management and working with WordPress is essential. You will be a confident communicator with excellent people skills, comfortable in approaching key stakeholders for stories and content.
Experience in the non-profit sector is not essential, as we’ll provide a comprehensive induction programme and ongoing peer support.

In this role you’ll be both strategic and hands-on, solely managing the financial controls for this small charity with a £350k annual turnover. You will support the Director and senior management team through your management of financial processes, policy and planning.
This will include using accountancy software to process income and expenditure, producing management accounts for the senior management team and Board, and ensuring the charity reports to its key funders, including Arts Council England.
You’ll process payroll for our small team of 6 employees, taking care of liaison with HMRC as well as handling external audit and company filing.

Unfazed by working mostly alone, you’ll be incredibly organised with your time and workload to ensure processes are handled in a timely and accurate fashion. You’ll have experience of working with small organisations and charities, knowledgeable about the areas of financial control that you will be our expert on.
The role is an employee position for one day per week, however we are open to discuss flexibility of working hours and the possibility of freelance working with the successful candidate.

Terms and Conditions
Hours of Work: 7.5 hours per week (1 day). These hours can be worked flexibly.
Contract: This is a permanent employment contract with a 3 month probationary period.
Salary: The full-time equivalent salary for this position is £40,000 – 45,000 per annum (pro rata to 7.5 hours per week).
