We are seeking a Facilities & Events Assistant to help ensure the smooth running of our events and facilities hire at our historic Richmond site. It’s an exciting time to join the team, as we continue to further develop our visitor experience and facilities hire offer.

The Facilities & Events Assistant will be the first port of call for enquiries, and will provide excellent customer service and front desk support to our customers. You’ll be responsible for organising the staff and volunteer rota, and ensuring that all the logistics are in place for a smooth customer experience.

You’ll be involved in donation processing, and maintaining records in our supporter database. The role will also have the opportunity for involvement in high profile events such as the Field of Remembrance and VIP/Royal visits.

This position is ideally suited to someone who thrives on a high degree of autonomy, enjoys a varied role with the opportunity to think creatively to solve challenges, and can flex their pinpoint attention to detail in our events and facilities hire operations.

About The Poppy Factory

The Poppy Factory’ mission is to support veterans with health conditions on their journey into employment and to continue supporting them whatever challenges they may face.

Founded in 1922, the charity moved to Richmond in 1926, along with many wounded, injured and sick veterans of the First World War. They were employed to produce Remembrance wreaths and products for the Royal Family and The Royal British Legion, and this work continues at the factory today.

Job Purpose: As the Shop Manager for the CPS shop in Maida Hill, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a positive and inclusive environment while managing the day-to-day operations of the shop. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the smooth functioning of the shop during trading hours, overseeing volunteer coverage across all seven days of the week.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Management: Exercise autonomy in managing the shop, demonstrating strong leadership and independence to navigate the fast-paced and sometimes challenging environment. Delegate tasks effectively and provide ongoing training and support to team members, including the assistant manager, to ensure operational duties are efficiently handled.
2. Team Development: Recruit, onboard, and retain volunteers to build a high-performing team. Cultivate a positive and fulfilling volunteer experience, ensuring that each member feels valued and supported in their role. Promote diversity and equality within the shop team, reflecting the community we serve.
3. Customer Service: Lead by example in providing excellent customer service to shoppers, donors, and volunteers. Create a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere in the shop, promoting positive relationships and behaviours among all stakeholders.
4. Brand Ambassadorship: Represent the CPS brand through the shop, embodying its values of peaceful conflict resolution and community engagement. Uphold the organisation's reputation by maintaining high standards of professionalism and integrity.
5. Operational Excellence: Ensure that all shop operations, including inventory management, merchandising, and cash handling, are conducted efficiently and in compliance with organisational policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Previous experience in a retail management role, preferably in a charity shop environment.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

We are looking for a Charity Shop Manager to cover shifts in both of the Harington Charity Shops in North London. The Charity Shop Manager (Cover) role, will be guaranteed 8.5 hours a week in our Hornsey charity shop. In addition to this there may be other variable hours over and above this, where they will be asked to provide cover when the Charity Shop Managers or Shop Assistants are on leave at either the Archway or Hornsey Charity Shops. Please note the salary is £28,598 pro rata depending on the number of hours worked. We are looking for someone who can be extremely flexible and adaptable to change. This would suit someone who is looking for extra hours of work around their other life commitments. 

We would like someone who:- 

• has experience in retail
• experience of managing a diverse team of employees or volunteers 
• has the ability to effectively lead and motivate others
• can plan and prioritise workload, and the workload of their team
• has commercial awareness
• has a strong customer focus

Our Shop Managers have the freedom and independence to take ownership for their shop's performance, maximising profits, delivering the highest level of shop standards using their creative flair, and providing excellent quality service to our customers. They inspire and lead a diverse team of staff, volunteers and students with learning differences completing work experience in retail, creating a caring and supportive environment for people to flourish.

Our two London charity shops are vital in raising funds from the sale of pre-loved, donated stock to fund Harington's work to support young people with learning differences into employment and independence.  But they are more than just shops, they play a vital role in local communities in Hornsey and Archway, offering a warm and welcoming place for people to shop and volunteer.

Harington is an Ofsted regulated specialist college and charity based in north London, working with young people with learning differences aged 16-25. Our students undertake individualised learning programmes that lead to vocational qualifications and other aims, including gardening, retail, English, maths, employability and independent living.  We also deliver a supported internship programme.   

Our charity's learning centres in Highgate and Hornsey alongside our charity's gardening business and two charity shops, provide a unique opportunity for students to practically apply their learning on work experience placements. We also work with other employers toprovide opportunities in other settings to meet the aspirations of our students.  

The opportunity:

Battersea’s multiple award-winning Income Generation department raises around 60% of the Charity’s total income. Working with colleagues across the organisation, they provide members of the public and organisations with opportunities to engage with Battersea and to support our work. Within this department sits the Challenge and Public Events team who deliver challenge events, including charity places in the London Marathon and Royal Parks Half Marathon, and our multiple award-winning Muddy Dog Challenge series.

This team is looking for someone to join them as a Challenge and Public Events Assistant on a 6-month contract, to be the first point of contact for fundraising products, In-Celebration and community supporters, as well as our carol concert attendees, delivering exceptional supporter care and building long-lasting relationships. They will also provide administrative support to the Senior Challenge & Public Events Officers to deliver a portfolio of fundraising events and activities, as well as take the lead on small projects.

This will be a rewarding opportunity to play a role in giving the dogs and cats in our care a better life, and we are looking for someone who has experience of delivering outstanding supporter/customer care, is able to work collaboratively with colleagues from other teams, and has a full, valid UK driving license and is confident driving vans and other vehicles.

Please note that this role is a 6-month fixed term contract.

Being a confident communicator with a “can-do” approach is essential as well as being able to demonstrate proven administrative skills, the ability to manage a varied workload and be highly organised.

We offer flexible working patterns, both in terms of hours and remote working. Please note that all employees are contractually required to work from the office a minimum of 4 days a month.
