Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Badger Trust, the voice for badgers in England and Wales, as a new campaign and research position is added to the small staff team.

With the mass badger culls in England, our priority campaign, confirmed as running to 2025 at least, and historic and ongoing illegal persecution among other major issues this iconic species faces, there is much to do at this critical time. This new role will be instrumental in developing and delivering our campaigns for increased impact for badgers, informed by research, partnership working and also by working closely with experts in the relevant fields.

Originally established in 1986 as the National Federation of Badger Groups, and evolving into Badger Trust in 2005, our charity works to promote and enhance the welfare, conservation and protection of badgers, their setts and their habitats in England and Wales (Scotland is covered by Scottish Badgers). We campaign across a number of areas at national level, and are supported by, and support, a network of over 50 autonomous local badger groups on the ground.

The successful candidate will have solid foundations and experience in campaigning, informed and guided by research, including contributing to and delivering both short and long-term strategic plans, working with strategic partners and coalitions, and managing day to day relationships with key stakeholders in political, scientific and policy areas. They will be an energetic and enthusiastic campaigner, with an ability to self manage, prioritise, and recognise opportunities and be ready to act on them. They will report directly to the Executive Director, who leads the organisation on campaign strategy, and work closely with the Marketing & Fundraising Manager in terms of creation and delivery of campaigns.

We are a small, friendly team and need someone who is ready to hit the ground running and work to maximise the impact of the charity at this key time of organisational investment for growth. If this sounds like you please apply by sending your CV and cover letter (no more than one side of A4 for cover letter) to us by Monday 4th October 1pm. First interviews are likely to be held virtually, with second in person (subject to Covid guidance at the time). We expect to hold first interviews Wednesday 13th October.

To find out more about us please see our website and in particular our news page which covers our latest campaign news, including important developments on our priority cull campaign, as well as the road map for the badger cull.

For an informal conversation about this role in the first instance please contact us.
