Key Result Areas

As Human Resources Advisor you'll be joining a small, friendly and supportive HR team providing advice and support to managers and staff across the full range of employee life-cycle activities. This is an additional role providing HR advice and support, primarily for our Key Project at Marylebone. Our Key Projects are at the heart of our Church Army vision and seek to bring transformation to the lives of those they work with.

Around half of our staff work within our Key Projects, so the HR Advisor will be lead for HR advice and support for these colleagues. They will play a key role in developing and strengthening the relationship between the projects and HR and ensure we deliver an effective HR service to the projects which is aligned with the service to the wider organisation. The post holder will work closely with each of the Key Project Leaders in making sure the Christian ethos and values of Church Army are part of the culture and practice of the projects.

 About the Role

The Africa Death Penalty Team Project Manager is responsible for coordinating Reprieve’s litigation and advocacy in Sub-Saharan Africa. At the moment, the team works on death penalty casework and abolition advocacy in Malawi, Tanzania, and Kenya. Our casework includes work on individual cases on behalf of people facing a death sentence; large-scale projects, such as the Kenya resentencing project, wherein we support stakeholders to ensure 5,000+ people are able to access a chance at reducing their sentence from death via a new sentence hearing; and  long-term regional projects, such as our strategic litigation before the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, which challenges the mandatory death penalty, torture, and other associated violations of the African Charter.

Regional context

 There is a trend toward the abolition of the death penalty in Africa. In recent years, countries across the continent have taken the decision to limit the application of the death penalty or to abolish it altogether. This has been seen as a turning away from old laws and systems that were imposed by former colonial governments, which obstructed alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, and were designed to remove discretion from the local judiciary. African lawyers and judges are now at the forefront of a wave of progressive jurisprudence on issues related to the death penalty including methods of executions, torture, sentencing practice, conditions of confinement, and intersections of gender, disability, and socioeconomic status with criminal justice. This jurisprudence has become a model for the international movement to limit the death penalty, and is being held up as best practice in jurisdictions around the world.

Contract and location

This is a full-time, permanent role based in Reprieve’s London office. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model with staff working part of the week from home and part of the week from the office. Applicants must have the current right to work in the UK, which will be checked prior to interview.

Your presence is important during core office hours, whether remotely or in the office. You will also be available outside of office hours in the event of an emergency, for example case developments that require urgent action. This is a role that may require travel.

We are looking to recruit a Head of Member Acquisition and Engagement on a part-time contract. This is an exciting new role that will play a key part in our continued growth and will make a real impact on the teaching profession; we are looking for someone who believes in our mission and the work we do.

Working closely with the Deputy Chief Executive, Associate Director: Partnerships and the Marketing and Communications Manager, the Head of Member Acquisition and Engagement will take a lead on activity related to attracting and retaining our individual teacher members, including developing, rolling out and evaluating recruitment and retention programmes, initiatives and campaigns for current and prospective members. The successful candidate will be confident using data to inform decision-making and monitor progress towards membership growth targets and have the ability to work well independently and within a team.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to build their corporate partnerships career. The nature of our work means that there are significant opportunities to develop existing and new relationships that we have with companies and create transformational corporate partnerships that change the lives of the young adults with learnign disabilities and/or autism that we support. Fundraised income has grown rapidly over the last three years, focusing mainly on income from trusts and foundations. We are now looking to diversify the strategy and have created this new role to take forward opportunities with companies. This new role will support the Director of Development in shaping and implementing the next phase of DFN Project SEARCH’s fundraising strategy and will lead on the development of major new corporate partnerships. They will also lead on the development and management of a small number of existing corporate relationships and sponsorship opportunities.

To support the development of this new element of our strategy we have been working with a leading corporate partnerships consultancy. They have been helping to develop our proposition for companies, developing our strategies for approaching individual company prospects, and will be available to support you in your role when you start in post.

The Biochemical Society and its wholly owned publishing subsidiary Portland Press Ltd (PPL) are seeking an experienced and influential leader to join us as our new Chief Executive, from January 2025 on the retirement of the current postholder Kate Baillie. The Biochemical Society was founded in 1911 and currently has around 5,000 members. It is a learned society that is at the forefront of advancing molecular bioscience, promoting its importance as a discipline, facilitating the sharing of knowledge and expertise, and supporting molecular bioscientists across all career stages.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Repairs and Maintenance manager to join our estates department as we start the implementation of our 2023-2028 corporate strategy that seeks to double our current housing offer and improve the quality of our existing estate.

The Estates Repairs & Maintenance Manager will report directly to the Associate Director of Estates working alongside the Estate's Surveyor, Facilities Officer, Estates Administrator and external property consultancy partner who will provide technical support in terms of the production of tender and specifications, contract administration, property surveys, cost advice and feasibility studies.

How you will make a difference

The main purpose of the Estates Repairs & Maintenance Manager role is to manage and oversee effective property repairs, maintenance and improvement works across the property portfolio and ensure that it remains legally compliant. This includes properties where the responsibility for repairs and maintenance is that of the Charity and equally of other parties such as landlords and housing associations. The role will include managing existing external contractor relationships and housing association repairs and maintenance performance, as well as introducing new supplier contracts where required according to the wider needs of the charity. The role will also include managing major/complex projects on behalf of the charity and supporting other areas of the department ensuring properties remain compliant.

*Appointments will be at the minimum of the band.

*London Allowance is paid for roles that are based within the Greater London area only.
