The Supporter Connection and Engagement Officer plays a key role in developing and deepening relationships with supporters through personal engagement, particularly via phone and email. This role helps to inspire generosity, communicate impact, and ensure every supporter feels valued and connected to Church Army’s mission. The work that the Supporter Engagement and Connection Officer does directly enables our frontline work to happen.

About the Role

Headway East London is looking for a creative and values-driven Communications Officer to support and develop the voice of Headway East London – working with our community of brain injury survivors, volunteers, and staff to co-produce content that shares our stories, increases awareness and broadens our reach.

You’ll play a central role in promoting our services, supporting income generation, and amplifying the voices of our members through a range of marketing and communications activity. You’ll balance digital know-how with a collaborative approach, developing accessible, engaging content across channels including our website, social media, e- newsletters, and print materials.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications Delivery

• Deliver and support the implementation of our communications and marketing strategy across all channels (digital and print).
• Support a regular calendar of activity across social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, BlueSky, YouTube) to maintain and grow a network of online supporters.
• Support on maintaining and developing content for the Headway East London website (using WordPress and Elementor), including blog posts, service pages and events.
• Create engaging, relevant and accessible content including copy, video, photography, audio and graphics (using Canva), in line with brand guidelines and accessibility principles.
• Co-ordinate monthly e-newsletters and other communications using Mailchimp to a variety of audiences.

Community & Co-Production

• Work with our members(services users - people with brain injury),volunteers and staff to co-create content that reflects their voices and experiences.
• Ensure accessibility is embedded in all communications, including use of plain English, inclusive visuals, and a variety of formats.
• Engage the wider Headway East London community in developing campaigns, storytelling, and communications planning.

Campaigns, Partnerships & Income Generation

• Support fundraising and development teams to plan and deliver digital campaigns that increase donations, engagement and awareness.
• Explore opportunities for brand development, partnerships and earned media that align with our values and strategic priorities.
• Maintain and strengthen relationships with local and national media outlets and stakeholders.

Internal Communications

• Support internal communication needs across the organisation, helping teams stay informed and connected across multiple sites.
• Help develop internal resources and templates that enable teams to produce consistent, values-led communications.

Context and Purpose of the role

The Community Outreach Project (Scotland) an initiative to bring the Ramblers strategy to life, and open the outdoors to some of the groups that have the most barriers to getting out walking.  The project works with community-based contacts in urban areas with a focus on refugees, asylum seekers and people from global majority communities.

Key responsibilities

· Lead on the design, development and implementation of the Community Outreach Project Scotland.

· Identify and develop new partnerships and opportunities to help grow and expand project and impact.  

· Assess and monitor risks, resolve issues, and ensure compliance with relevant policies and regulations.

·Contribute to the organisation approach to risk management

· Lead on and manage the project budget and programme evaluation and reporting.

· Overall responsibility for groups of inexperienced participants in outdoor settings using industry best

practice in risk management

· Capture success stories, case studies and good practice in how our work makes a difference.

· Work with the Scotland’s director and fundraising team to secure the funding and support required to sustain and expand project.

· Develop effective ways to build bridges between excluded communities and  existing Ramblers walking groups by building strong and proactive relationships with volunteers.

· Engage and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to provide accessible and sustainable walking experiences.

· Contribute to GB-wide strategic approach to community engagement with those who face the greatest barriers to benefit from being outdoors

· Engage and proactively develop excellent working relationships across the organisation

Qualification

· Hill and Moorland or Mountain leader qualified (or trained with assessment pending) and a valid 16 hour Outdoor First Aid Certificate

Knowledge and Experience

· Experience of managing volunteers and staff including training and mentoring outdoor leaders0

· Experience of initiating strong external partnerships and collaborative internal relationships to deliver mutually beneficial activities and outcomes.

· Experience of successfully engaging communities in sport and physical activity programmes, in particular, outdoor activity provision.

· Experience of implementing change and working with others to adopt new ways of working.

· Experience of assessing and managing risk in relation to outdoor physical activity

Skills and Leadership

· Ability to plan, lead and develop a project with the related co-ordination, planning, organisational skills

· Ability to spot and exploit opportunities for growth in scale and impact, including by developing existing and new funder relationships

· The ability to delivery training whilst leading safe and inspiring group walks in lowland and/or hill & moorland environments

We are looking for a Community Fundraising Manager who will focus on leadership and net income growth of the Community Fundraising (CFR) team, who are based across the UK. The post holder will lead and manage the three regional engagement Officers, taking responsibility in actively supporting them to achieve in their posts.

The role also requires proven ability in budget management, forecasting, and meeting annual income targets.

The post holder must be highly collaborative, able to work effectively with colleagues across regions to drive alignment and deliver well-coordinated campaigns. Strong organisational and project-management skills are key, enabling the manager to oversee multiple initiatives delivered on time and to a high standard. Ultimately, the role requires a confident leader who can balance creativity with operational excellence, ensuring the community fundraising programme continues to grow and deliver meaningful impact.

Hours of Work

Hours of work are 35 hours per week, 09:00 – 17:00 Monday to Friday.

The Community Engagement Officer will play a pivotal role in delivering Alzheimer’s Research UK’s Dementia Community Champions (DCC) programme. Launched in 2022, the programme empowers volunteers to share dementia information within communities that are under-served in terms of access to health information and research, and at higher risk of being affected by dementia. The programme has to date focused on South Asian communities in Leicester, Nottingham, and Derby. In 2026, it will expand to include Black African and Black Caribbean communities in East London. As the programme continues to grow, the Officer will have significant scope to support, shape, and develop this important area of work.

Dementia Community Champions are volunteers trained by Alzheimer’s Research UK to deliver events in their communities to increase knowledge and understanding of dementia, brain health and dementia risk factors. They also emphasise the importance of taking part in research in their local communities.

They do this by:

- attending and completing training in dementia, risk factors, and dementia research run by the core ARUK team.

- holding events within their communities to share dementia information.

- sharing leaflets and other resources.

- speaking to local people about their experience of dementia and signposting them to appropriate information and opportunities.

This role will be known internally as Dementia Community Champion – FTC*

Key Responsibilities:

Day to day support of volunteers

· Assist in the recruitment and management of new DCC volunteers, ensuring a smooth onboarding process and volunteer journey.

· Act as a point of contact for DCC volunteers, providing guidance, support, and timely responses to their enquiries.

· Empower volunteers by helping them build skills and confidence to talk about dementia and dementia research, and to engage effectively with their audiences.

· Plan, facilitate, and deliver monthly online meetings. This includes coordinating with volunteers, arranging logistics, addressing queries, and liaising with internal stakeholders.

Comprehensive admin support

· Provide comprehensive administrative support for the programme, including assisting volunteers in organising and evaluating their events.

· Collect key metrics from the programme to monitor progress and evaluate activities.

· Maintain relevant files and documents, ensuring accurate recording of data and adherence to GDPR.

· Ensure activities comply with ARUK’s branding and style guide.

Support the delivery of Dementia Community Champions in underserved communities.

· Assist in the development and delivery of DCC training and ongoing support to volunteers to hold their own events.

· Act as a champion for DCC across Alzheimer's Research UK, effectively communicating the importance, successes and challenges of the programme. Share insights and support colleagues across ARUK in their efforts to reach underserved communities.

· Collaborate with the DCC Manager to produce ongoing evaluation of the programme. Proactively suggest new initiatives and continuous improvements.

What we are looking for:

· Science graduate or equivalent level of education (biomedical or biological subject) or relevant work experience

· Experience of discussing health or research with the public.

· Experience of communicating complex health information in a simple and accessible way.

· Awareness of current topics in dementia and dementia research

· Demonstrated experience in providing comprehensive administrative support for programmes or initiatives.

· Experience of working with and supporting volunteers.

· Project and events coordination experience.

· Effective written and spoken communication skills.

· A confident, friendly, and professional attitude; would feel at ease representing the charity to a range of audiences.

· Willingness and ability to travel independently in the UK and occasionally to work outside of regular office hours when needed.

About Woman’s Trust

The charity was established in 1996 to meet the gap in specialist mental health services. Woman’s Trust is led by and for women and aims to ensure that women affected by domestic abuse can live a life free from further harm and abuse. Our approach is trauma-informed and person-centred, empowering survivors on their journey to recovery from the trauma. We are committed to a positive, inclusive and equitable environment for our staff, service users and volunteers.

Alongside delivering our existing 1-1 counselling, self-development workshops and therapeutic support groups for women who have experienced domestic abuse, we are focused on developing our innovative mental health services for young women and girls, delivering new peer-led support groups and providing therapeutic groups to children and their mothers. We are also committed to developing further awareness-raising workshops and training for professionals, building on our research and policy to improve systems nationally.

Background

The lack of recognition of domestic abuse as a mental health issue within the NHS leads to delayed and inadequate support for survivors. This gap in understanding and response often result in survivors only being able to access and receive appropriate care when their mental health deteriorates to the point of requiring secondary mental health services (Women’s Aid 2021).  Meta analysis suggests that CBT, one of the NHS’s most prescribed approaches for mental ill-health, is not the best approach for domestic abuse survivors as it does not recognise and take into account the external factors and dynamics of abuse, specifically power and control, the role of the perpetrator and the resulting trauma for the survivor.

In March 2025, WT published its first major report, ‘Living Without Hope’ which consolidates existing and increasing academic, government and sector research demonstrating the significant impact of domestic abuse on women’s mental health. Outlining the current agency responses at national, regional and local levels and the gaps in provision; the report also makes recommendations for change and improvement across the VAWG and health sectors.

Building on the research highlighted in our ‘Living Without Hope’ report, WT has secured funding to work with key stakeholders in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to examine the links between domestic abuse and mental health, the specific experiences of Arab and Moroccan women and their access to safe, appropriate services that meet their needs.

Purpose

This is an exciting new role and will be focused on developing Woman’s Trust’s (WT) response to addressing the systemic issues female survivors of domestic abuse face when trying to access support.

Working with key stakeholders in the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (LBKC) and specifically Al-Hasniya to ensure that professionals have a clearer understanding of the link between domestic abuse and mental health and its impact on survivors.

We are looking to recruit a Funding Officer to join the London, Southeast and East Team (LSE&E), within the Strategy, Learning Partnerships team (SLP). You will be part of a team, led by a Funding Manager and comprised of several other Funding Officers.

The LSE&E team is headed up by a Senior Head of Regional Funding, together with two Senior Grant Making Managers (SGMM) for London & South East. There are 5 local patches for the South East and East and 3 local patches for London.

SLP supports both LSE&E regional grant making, England wide grant making and Partnerships. SLP Funding Officers are involved in England Wide and Partnership Work beyond LSE&E and across England regions. They work with LSE&E colleagues, the Regional Leadership Team and England Wide.

SLP has a uniquely collaborative function, working together with local patches, the region as a whole and across England.

The SLP team purpose is to;

• Enable and lead grant making across geographical boundaries within the LSE&E region & across England
• Ensure intentional and responsive grant making responds to sector needs, is impactful, focused and mission aligned
• Build evidence & drive continuous learning and impact in the mission areas and our equity-based approach
• Provide regional leadership for external engagement, partnerships & funder collaborations & lead and / or support project teams across LSE&E and share best practice

Your Responsibilities:

In Responsive Grant Making, you will support the pipeline of ideas across two or more LSE&E local patches, assessing by The Fund's priorities and missions and using understanding of regional priorities.

Using regional priorities and new IMD data, you will be horizon scanning opportunities for intentional external engagement and contribute to the LSE&E Regional Funding Plans.

You will support the region to deliver to the new routes to partnership and England Wide funding. You will learn about and support the region with Funding Mechanisms that will enable flexible grant making.

You will have an interest in learning and act as the Regional Learning Lead (up to 20% of time – variable according to team / regional priorities).

With oversight from your manager, you will provide leadership to SLP learning and implement high quality and relevant learning & events that meet the strategic objectives of the region.

You will guide and support the LSE&E Mission Leads – these are a group of Funding Officers who support Learning across LSE&E.

You will support them to deliver on learning needs, priorities and events – and work collaboratively alongside the rest of SLP and the Regional Leadership Team (RLT).

In return we can offer the opportunity to develop relevant skills and gain experience working with one of the largest funders in the UK. You can progress to becoming a trained and skilled Funding Officer with good progression routes in the sector.
