MenWalkTalk has been developing at a pace and is now looking for new Trustees to help strengthen the Board to continue the growth.
Our Trustees play a vital role in making sure that MenWalkTalk achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity ensuring that MenWalkTalk has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable MenWalkTalk to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission.
Board members have a collective responsibility. This means that Trustees always act as a group and not as individuals.
Duties:
- Support and provide advice on MenWalkTalk’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
- Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
- Oversee MenWalkTalk’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
- Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
- Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
- Review and approve MenWalkTalk’s financial statements.
- Provide support and challenge to MenWalkTalk’s CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
- Contribute to regular reviews of MenWalkTalk’s own governance. Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
- Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect MenWalkTalk’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.
- Contribute to the broader promotion of MenWalkTalk’s objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.
As a small charity, there will be times when the Trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.
What we are looking for
We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board. The ideal candidates will have 3 or more years previous governance experience in the UK charity sector.

Terms of appointment
Terms of office
- Trustees are appointed for a 3 year term of office.
- This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
Time commitment
- Attending 6-9 Board meetings annually. Currently meetings are held remotely each month.
- Attending 2 annual strategy / training days
Committee membership
Membership of at least one of the Trustee committees attending relevant meetings and reporting back to the Board.

Background to the role
Suffolk FA is supported by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers striving to enhance football across the county. The organisation is undergoing a transformative phase with the appointment of a new CEO who starts in August, the forthcoming appointment of a Commercial Funding & Partnerships Manager and the recruitment of three new Trustees to fill important skill gaps in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and Corporate Funding and Partnerships. Being a Trustee – what's involved
Every charity has a Board – a group of volunteers who ensure that the organisation is effective in carrying out the purpose for which it was set up. The trustees at Suffolk FA have responsibility for overseeing the work of the charity, ensuring that it is effectively and efficiently run, with the appropriate oversight and governance, in line with the requirements of the County FA Code of Governance.

We are looking for
- People with the skills, knowledge and experience to lead on the development and implementation of Suffolk FA’s strategy within your specialist area (ESG; Funding & Partnerships; EDI), in line with business and football development plans.

About Farleigh Hospice & The Role

Our current Chair of the Board, Keith Spiller, is about to reach the maximum term of nine years as a trustee, and is stepping down later this year. We are looking to recruit his successor now to give sufficient time for a smooth, phased handover of the role to the successful applicant.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about developing this hospice and steering it through the challenges that charities are facing in the near-term, while looking ahead to plan where Farleigh will be in future. The role of Chair is a very rewarding one and is an opportunity to make a difference at Farleigh Hospice and within your local community, supporting us to deliver outstanding care as well as shaping our future both financially and strategically.
About You
For the Chair of Trustee role, we are seeking someone who can deliver on:
- Strategic Leadership: you will bring a track record of achievement which demonstrates leadership, strategic vision, inclusivity and strong effective relationships.
- Governance: you will have experience of being on Boards and understand the importance of effective governance to ensure sound financial health and accountability, compliance and risk alongside the importance of innovation.
- Passion: you will direct the work of the board through expertise, passion and enthusiasm to achieve our vision ‘that everyone facing the end of their life is supported to live well and die well’.
- Inclusivity: to champion diversity that reflects the communities we serve
- Collaboration: an outstanding communicator and the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-stakeholder environment
The ideal candidate will have:
- A strong commitment to the hospice’s mission and values.
- Demonstratable trustee experience and sound knowledge of governance
- Highly developed leadership skills and strong business and financial acumen
- Willingness to dedicate time and effort to fulfil trustee responsibilities.

What’s involved?
- The Board meets in person at least four times a year, plus an annual away day.
- Trustees are also expected to join one of our committees and may occasionally support specific projects.
- Most additional meetings take place online.
- This is a voluntary role, but reasonable expenses are covered.

Training Link, a small friendly charity based in Somers Town, near the British Library, is looking for a new trustee to join our Board.
Becoming a trustee for Training Link is an exciting and fulfilling role. The role of a trustee is to ensure that our charity fulfils its duty to its beneficiaries through contributing to the strategic development, effective governance and financial management of the organisation.
About Training Link
Training Link is a small and welcoming charity based in the St Pancras and Somers Town ward of the London Borough of Camden where 18% of residents have no qualifications. We provide a range of IT training, accredited vocational training, employability support, ESOL, one to one literacy support and advice and advocacy, mainly around benefits and immigration. The aim is to help people gain employment or to move on to further education, training or volunteering.
Training Link is a registered charity No 1051662 and a company limited by guarantee. It is a well-established organisation, set up forty years ago and with a good local reputation.
Our Team
There is a staff team of six, mainly working part time for one or two days per week. There are six regular volunteers and a further twelve or so volunteers providing ESOL (English as a second language) support. Training Link is run by a Management Committee consisting of the Trustees, Director and three Management Committee members.
The role of a Trustee
Training Link is governed by a Management Committee which currently consists of five Trustees and three others who support the Trustees. The management committee members make sure that the charity does what it was set up to do and that it is run effectively. The management committee meets approximately every two months. In between meetings there are smaller sub-groups which meet to address specific tasks such as finance and fundraising.
The trustees are legally responsible for overall management and decision-making and must act with integrity, openness and honesty. They need to be willing to give their time to take an active part in running Training Link and they must be committed to Training Link’s diversity and inclusion policy and practice. All trustees are expected to attend at least 75% of Management Committee meetings per year.
Reimbursement of expenses
Trustees and Management Committee members can be reimbursed for expenses such as travel linked to Training Link activities but will not be paid simply for being a Trustee or for carrying out tasks for Training Link.

The first step is an informal conversation with Training Link’s Director. You will be given an overview of our current work and will be given further information about our governance, policies and financial situation.
The second step is a formal interview with trustees which will take place in September. If selected, you will be invited to join our Management Committee and will receive a proper induction from both the Director and the Chair of the Board.
You will also be required to give your permission for us to apply for a DBS check for you and you must let us know if you joining us would involve any conflict of interest.
Rewards of Trusteeship
While being a trustee does involve time and commitment, the satisfaction and sense of achievement that you gain from the role more than makes up for this. We do make a real difference to people’s lives through improving their confidence and skills and providing the opportunity to get accredited qualifications. And of course, being a charity trustee can open the door to other opportunities.
