Job description

3-year fixed term contract (with potential of extension)

The Abbey Community Association is a charity operating out of a large community centre and hub in the heart of south Westminster, bringing together local people and organisations to address local community needs.

We are recruiting a Health and Wellbeing Programmes Manager to manager our Women Off to Work (WOW) programme, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and our Churchill Gardens and Tachbrook Community Champions project commissioned and funded by Westminster City Council Public Health.

Through the WOW programme, we have developed a holistic training and “into-work” programme for women in south Westminster and neighbouring areas, particularly those from Muslim and Arabic-speaking backgrounds. We deliver life and vocational skills training, wellbeing and general employability support through work experience placements, internships, job brokerage and practical advice on employment and self-employment. We provide women with opportunities to gain formal and accredited training qualifications and provide support with tailored into-work action plans.

The Churchill Gardens and Tachbrook Community Champions project delivers an asset-based approach to improving the health and wellbeing of residents living in Churchill Gardens and Tachbrook housing estates. The manager will support the implementation and development of the project with the aim of achieving demonstrable improvements in health and wellbeing of residents. This involves the recruitment and development of local people to act as Community Champions volunteers to help service users find their way to appropriate services and disseminate health information and messages. The project forms part of a wider Community Champions programme operating across Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea (Community Champions).

The Health and Wellbeing Programmes Manager will play a crucial part in continuing the successful delivery of these two important programmes.
