Job description

We are looking for a Development Manager in our Place Development Team who will focus on Public Leisure.A key element within our 10-year Strategy - Uniting the Movement is our commitment to work through Place, Creating Active Environments and supporting Public Leisure facilities to be more community focused and evolve to an active wellbeing service:

  • Creating  Active Environment’s provides places and spaces for people to be more active and build healthier active communities.
  • Developing stronger, happier healthy communities and better places to live, by ensuring our built and natural environments and the connections in between are design or adapted around people, creating the opportunities to increase physical activity levels
  • Places and spaces around us deliver a positive impact on whether, how, when, and where we move. Every space and place that we move through in our daily lives should encourage us to move more. Dedicated sport and leisure spaces should be co-created, well designed and inclusive.
  • Public leisure facilities and services have a vital and unique role to play in our sport and activity ecosystem because of their value to the people who use them most. The public leisure sector also has a central role to play in the delivery of our Uniting the Movement strategy, as it is a core element of each of the five Big Issues we have identified as having the greatest potential for preventing and tackling inequalities in sport and physical activity.
  • Our Future of Public Leisure report identified two medium term goals for the sector (1) to transition from a traditional leisure service to one which is far more focussed on active wellbeing (2) to move to a model that focusses on added value and supporting the delivery of local priorities, and with that enable the delivery of wider government priorities around Levelling Up, net zero and health inequalities
  • To fully understand the role of public leisure centres, Moving Communities Facilities provides a real-time view of local authority facility performance, with benchmarking and filtering functionality, that explores financial performance alongside understanding how effective the service is and for whom, and its impact on local communities.
  • The platform has developed into Moving Communities Place which is a comprehensive data platform that provides a detailed, place-based view of participation in physical activity by measuring direct delivery to demonstrate the scale, impact and value to local communities.

Sport England recognises the positive value of diversity, promotes equality and challenges discrimination. We welcome and encourage job applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly where we are under-represented, currently, this includes disabled people and those from culturally diverse communities.
