The Finance Officer will join a small and dynamic team that covers Finance, Human Resources, IT and Business Operations. The Finance & Operations team play a critical role by running the day-to-day operations and providing the infrastructure that enables the continued delivery of the Trust’s mission and objectives.

The Sutton Trust is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Finance Officer to join the team and provide crucial support on a range of key finance processes. This is a fast-paced and hands-on role that requires an understanding of basic finance processes. You can expect a steep learning curve in a passionate and supportive working environment.

We have recently introduced a new accounting system and are looking for someone who is willing to learn, make the most of the improved technology and contribute to automating (and improving) our finance processes. The Team

This role will fit into the small Finance & Operations team and will be line managed by the Finance Manager.

Main Duties

• Maintaining the Purchase Ledger including processing supplier invoices, staff expense claims, grant and bursary payments, reconciling statements and making the relevant payments
• Maintaining the Sales Ledger including raising invoices and allocating receipts
• Cash management including checking bank transactions daily, allocating transactions on the accounting system and producing regular bank reconciliations. Paying in cheques and reconciling floats, if required
• Maintaining accurate records of both unrestricted and restricted fund transactions including receipts, grants, staff expenses, overheads and cash
• Providing timely and accurate financial support to the Programmes, Development and Research teams to assist them with forecasting, budgeting, reconciliation and (donor) reporting
• Supporting with the month end procedures such as balance sheet reconciliations, depreciation, month end adjustments, salary and overhead allocations
• Gathering monthly payroll information and reviewing monthly payroll reports
• Assisting with the administration of the pension scheme and of employee benefits
• Preparing quarterly Gift Aid claims and maintaining the relevant supporting documentation
• Assisting with the year-end statutory accounts preparation, audit and budget setting process
• Ensuring that the filing is done in a timely manner and that all paperwork is up to date
• Proactively updating your own knowledge in relation to the role, identifying and undertaking appropriate training
• Keeping up to date with legislation, policies and procedures relevant to the role and the Trust’s work
• Other duties as necessary from time to time
• Contributing to continuous process improvement efforts and suggesting ways to further automate tasks with the new accounting system
• Assist with creating finance procedure notes for the new accounting system.

We are looking for an individual, who can demonstrate:

• Excellent numeracy skills and strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task
• Sound understanding of double entry book-keeping including month end adjustments
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
• Confidentiality

and who is:

• AAT qualified, holds a similar qualification or is working towards qualification

In addition, experience in the following areas will help you to stand out. However, this is not required, and training will be provided if needed for the right candidate:

• Experience of working in a busy finance department with responsibility for similar tasks
• Experience of working in the education or not-for-profit sector
• Experience of working with Xledger or equivalent accounting software

Terms of Appointment

• Contract: Full-time, Permanent (part-time considered)
• Salary: £33,000-£36,000
• Office location: The Sutton Trust, 9th Floor, Millbank Tower, 21-24 Millbank, London, SW1P 4QP. Our home working policy gives staff the option to work from home for up to 60% of the time, with approval from their line manager.
• Hours: The standard working hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and may also be required to attend events / meetings outside of their normal working hours during weekday evenings and occasionally at weekends

Key Details

Key Responsibilities:

• To develop, implement and manage regional (community) fundraising the associated income and expenditure budgets, ensuring that all budget targets are achieved 
• To evaluate regional fundraising plans on a regular basis and make changes when necessary

Hours and Benefits:

This is a permanent, full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. You will work Monday – Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required. 

This role offers hybrid work, working 3 days in the office at our Hospices in Sutton Scotney, and 2 days remotely. Due to the nature of the role, you will be required to travel around the region to meet community leaders, donors and supporters. 

Salary - up to £30,750 FTE, dependent upon experience.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this. 

Their vision is to find a cure for all types of brain tumours. To achieve their mission, they are looking for a Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships to lead the high value function, including income from major donors, corporate partners, and trusts and grants. The P&P team also encompasses volunteering and relationships held with the family of member charities.  

There is currently an interim Head of P&P in place until August to ensure progress continues towards the income ambition, and to support the team.  

The P&P function is on a journey, much work has been done to embed effective processes and a consistent approach to pipelining. There has been much improvement so far, but there remains a lot of scope for the incoming Head to shape the team, define areas of focus and ways of working.  

The team have had significant success this year, especially in the corporate partnerships space, so there is energy and enthusiasm to harness. There are exciting opportunities for high value fundraising connected to the launch of new Centres of Excellence across the UK, and some key events in the calendar such as a major donor dinner in September.  

This role would suit an experienced fundraiser across major donor or corporate income streams. You will have led a team before, and have experience of designing and delivering fundraising strategies.  

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to come into a team that is on the right path, but needs a confident Head of to ensure the team works in the most effective way, and to provide support and guidance to the team.

1. Partnership Development:
* Lead on the development of a new corporate partnerships programme for Look Ahead - researching, identifying, approaching, securing and activating a pipeline of new corporate partners
* Develop tailored proposals and partnership opportunities that align with Look Ahead's mission, vision, values and strategic objectives and meet needs of our services and people we support
* Work closely with Operations to identify corporate opportunities (e.g. to secure corporate funding for activity in a particular service, customer group or geographic location) and match and maximise potential corporate donors.

2. Partnership Management:
* Develop and implement partnership strategies that drive financial, in-kind and employee support (e.g. through challenge/community fundraising events) in support of Look Ahead's work
* Build, steward and nurture long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with key corporate stakeholders, through a stewardship approach
* Lead the management of existing corporate partnerships, ensuring clear communication, tracking of deliverables, and maintaining a positive relationship with all stakeholders.
* Build on existing relationships developed through our corporate volunteering and social value activity, developing these into longer-term, higher-value partnerships

Are you an experienced Angular developer who would like to join with other Christians in Tearfund's work with local churches around the world tackling poverty?

This role within a team of 13 developers will allow you to use your strong technical experience to serve people living in poverty in more than 50 countries around the world through providing effective applications for  the design, monitoring & evaluation of our front-line projects and for our finance staff. 

This is a key time for the team as we start the migration of our project design, monitoring & evaluation application to Angular. In this post you will work alongside our other Angular developers, sharing their expertise and building an application which will enable our staff and local church partners around the world to demonstrate the amazing impact of our work in the communities we work with.

The team is also crucial to our finance staff, being responsible for the development and support of an Angular application which is critical for finance data entry across the countries we work in. We are keen to leverage AI to increase productivity in this area so experience in working with AI technologies, or an interest in learning, would be an advantage.

Although not essential, experience of Power BI would also be useful as we extend our reporting suite, using our SQL Server data warehouse to demonstrate the impact of our work and provide vital financial information to staff across Tearfund. Thanks to our MS Azure integrations, our data warehouse contains combines data from multiple applications and our developers are key in bringing that data to life in ways that can help users across the organisations make data-led business decisions.

About the Role

As Programmes Coordinator you will be a vital member of the Programmes Team, supporting the smooth coordination of Schools and Teacher Training programmes. Some Key Responsibilities Include:
