Context and Background
The NSPCC’s mission is to end cruelty to children by fighting for every childhood. To carry out its charitable work the NSPCC relies on the fundraising support of people across the UK for 90% of it’s income. Within fundraising our aim is to provide maximum resources for the NSPCC. We aim to provide the best possible supporter experience, building long-term relationships to create an experience which is different, better and more rewarding than that of supporting any other charity.
The Associate Head of Mass Participation Fundraising is a member of the Supporter Led Fundraising Leadership Team and the Philanthropy & Partnerships Department. The role contributes to the overall leadership and management of the team and department as well as implementing the fundraising plans and strategies for the Engagement & Fundraising Directorate.
Mass Participation Fundraising is an important component in the NSPCC’s Engagement and Fundraising strategy. The post holder will lead and develop a first-class team to develop our portfolio, engaging and deepening the relationship with participants into long-term supporters and optimising the fundraising income they generate.
A key element of the role is to provide leadership across a diverse team, which includes Third Party Events, DIY fundraising and Schools Fundraising. The role will work collaboratively across all departments to build the best possible supporter relationships to generate income and promote key organisational messages to external audiences.
Job purpose
To deliver effective fundraising activities from a mass participation portfolio of diverse products, events and opportunities. To manage relationships with suppliers and agencies, while providing leadership and management to fundraising staff within the Mass Participation Fundraising team. Continually refreshing, improving and growing the portfolio, facilitating increased income generation across all teams.
• To have accountability and responsibility for the budgetary performance of three core Mass Participation income generation streams (Third Party Events, DIY Fundraising, and Schools Fundraising)
• To form and deliver the strategy of acquisition, stewardship and retention of mass participants
• To identify synergies and best practice across similar operations within and beyond Engagement & Fundraising, applying principles of Supporter Centricity across participants and their connected supporters
• To take a lead role in working effectively with other teams and departments to maximise the recruitment of supporters and their fundraising to deliver income for children

Main duties and responsibilities
• To work with Head of Supporter Led Fundraising to develop ambitious strategies and business plans to optimise and grow income
• To guide and direct the implementation of agreed strategies including influencing the plans and activities across other fundraising audience streams
• To develop, deliver and be accountable for teams' annual budgets through monitoring, managing and reforecasting financial performance, ensuring that contingency plans are in place as required
• To guide and direct efficient acquisition strategies across Third Party Events, DIY Fundraising and Schools Fundraising and ensure all supporters are onboarded to the organisation appropriately, supporting retention.
• To seek and commission insight of sector-wide fundraising opportunities through a range of markets and/or supporter groups, to inform the team strategies
• To be accountable for the management of agency relationships and core suppliers that are key to the delivery of income growth and supporter satisfaction
• Within the Supporter Centricity framework, promote and prioritise lead sharing across fundraising, ensuring supporters follow the best supporter journey, establishing Mass Participation as a core route for new supporter acquisition
• To work with other functions, such as Children's Services, Technology and Communications to optimise compelling propositions, messaging within effectively delivered supporter journeys
• To foster an innovative culture within the team to generate increased income though incremental changes in pre-existing products or new product development.

• To be responsible for updating databases and supporter information systems on a regular basis in line with Data Protection legislation and NSPCC policy and procedures to ensure all records are up-to-date and accurate.
• To actively participate in regular department and team meetings, contributing to strategy, discussions and decisions which will be beneficial to the NSPCC's development of fundraising activities.
• To maintain an awareness of own and others' Health and Safety and comply with the NSPCC's Health and Safety policy and procedures.
• To take personal responsibility for keeping up to date with NSPCC work to end cruelty to children, including securing updates on project and service developments and general NSPCC news and also ensuring that the fundraising teams do likewise.
Person specification
1. Experience of leadership to successfully drive income growth from event participation, DIY or schools fundraising either in the commercial or charity sector

The role
We are seeking a dynamic Director of Income & Engagement to join our senior leadership team. This pivotal role is responsible for developing and implementing robust income generation strategies to diversify and grow our voluntary and traded income streams.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in sales and/or fundraising, building strategic partnerships and driving innovation in income generation. Key responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy:
- Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing income generation team of 10 people, including two direct reports (Head of Partnerships and Head of Philanthropy)

Purpose of the Role
The role of the Project Officer – Legal Services (POLS) is to support the PBLS team’s mission to advance the UN SDGs by brokering pro bono legal assistance from legal experts in support of international NGOs globally. The POLS will do this by coordinating the internal processes for project sourcing, scoping and allocating, and utilising legal expertise within these processes and when providing external training and communications.
A key focus of this role is to source and scope out the weekly pro bono projects and forms. The POLS will also engage law firms and other legal stakeholders, conduct due diligence, allocate projects, maintain project records, gather feedback, prepare internal reports and external communications and undertake other administrative tasks as necessary (e.g. updating software and implementing process changes). Other key responsibilities include assisting the Pro Bono Services Lead (PBSL) with any bespoke projects, assisting with training events for Development Partners on relevant legal topics, and engaging key Legal or Development Partners on any specific areas of legal interest or need.Key Responsibilities
Broker Service And Operational Responsibilities
The POLS is responsible for supporting PBLS and undertaking relevant responsibilities and duties, including:
- Sourcing, scoping and allocating pro bono legal projects between international development partners and legal partners efficiently and in required timescales.
- Quality assurance of projects and deliverables to ensure stakeholder needs are met. This includes establishing and delivering on internal reporting protocols, narrative reports, high-quality data gathering, and any other required external documentation.
- Managing feedback and progress reviews in relation to A4ID project stakeholders.
- Coordinating learning, thought leadership and training outputs and activities bilaterally between legal and development experts, including briefings, publications, training and learning events, particularly those with a legal focus.
- Working with the CSO Officer on direct outreach for building new partnerships with Development Organisations (NGOs and CSOs).
- Supporting PBSL in managing A4ID’s existing network of legal experts, and expanding the network by engaging with new legal experts.
- Assisting with trialing online pro bono platforms, such as Paladin and Justice Connect.
- Coordinating recruitment, line management and training of volunteers.
- Supporting PBSL with other internal processes to advance the mission of A4ID, as needed.
Marketing & Events
The POLS will support relevant marketing activities related to PBLS. This includes:
- Representing A4ID and increasing visibility of PBLS services at events related to legal pro bono at UK, regional and international levels.
- Developing relevant external communications and material for social media and newsletters, particularly those with a legal focus.
- Drafting case studies and develop-related external communications (e.g. presentations, website articles and social media posts).
Fundraising and Income Generation
The PBLO will support relevant business development activities related to PBLS including:
- Draft and scope relevant applications and proposals (identified trusts, foundation or institutions).
- Support and provide input into income generation activities/proposal development for existing and new pro bono products, services, and projects.
- Maintain and develop relationships with contributing legal partners, including participating in regular account management meetings to manage relationships.
- As needed, work across departments/teams support and contribute to overall fundraising and proposals, in line with the organisational strategy.
- Support assessments and mapping of potential funding sources, e.g. trusts, foundations or institutional funding.
- Conduct due diligence and onboarding of any potential new Legal Partners.
- Support and deliver other tasks as required by PBSL.

PLEASE NOTE:

The Head of Programming & Creative Producing is a new senior role, working with the Chief Executive to shape and deliver the artistic output of the Philharmonia.
The postholder works hand-in-hand with the Head of Artistic Planning, and members of the Executive team to programme and artistically shape traditional concert programmes at various scales and in various contexts, as well as learning and digital projects and pre- or post-concert activities. The postholder also leads on the development and producing of new performance formats for own-promoted concerts.
A first-rate creative thinker, you will be passionate about working with conductors, artists and agents to create world-class concert programmes, residencies and series, and will be able to draw on your deep knowledge and understanding of orchestral repertoire, artists, and the wider cultural context, as well as an established network of industry relationships to turn your ideas into reality.
Your artistic interests, however, will range beyond the traditional core, and you will be driven by a personal mission to engage different and new audiences with orchestral music, whether that is through music for films or games, cross-artform and cross-genre collaborations, pre-performance debates, schools performances, VR installations, or different performance formats. You will take a producing approach to new performance formats, keenly appreciative of the importance of staging, narrative and flow for contemporary audiences.
You know the importance of equality and diversity on stage in building a future for classical music, and are an active champion of creative projects which demonstrate this. Discovering new artists and musical voices will be second nature to you, just as you will be sensitive to the needs of established artists and composers in shaping a project. While your focus is on the quality of the artistic output, you will maintain in-the-round awareness of the complex jigsaw of sometimes competing priorities and restrictions into which any project has to be delivered, including box office and audience development targets.
An important member of the HODs Team with a close relationship to the Philharmonia Orchestra Artistic Committee, this role suits a collaborative and inclusive emerging leader who acts with integrity, and who can manage complex systems and personalities in line with the Philharmonia’s mission to create the orchestral experience of the future.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning

Research and identify future featured artists, composers and guest conductors proactively

Research and develop ideas and concepts for season themes and series

Create mainstage programmes in line with the artistic strategy of the Philharmonia Orchestra in close consultation with the Chief Executive and conductors
Leadership and Management

Lead on chamber music programming, including liaison with players over proposals

Lead on the development of wrap-around activity on concert days

Lead on opportunities for commissioning and co-commissioning of new works, negotiating commission fees and contracts. Liaison with publishers.

Lead on programming Philharmonia Residency venues, taking both box office and logistical considerations into account

Lead on Philharmonia Records, developing and overseeing the recordings strategy and identifying and planning recording projects for own-label release

Initiate and develop non-standard orchestral projects for own promotions, such as film or games music formats, formats using visuals, cross-artform or cross-genre collaborations, and performances in non-traditional venues

Artistically and operationally produce all non-standard orchestral projects, including shaping narrative, stage presentation, and close working with the venue technical staff, supported by relevant project managers
Key tasks

Develop repertoire ideas and ensure timely registration on clash-diary, with support from Co-ordinator

Collaborate with Director of Tours and Project Development and partners to develop programmes for foreign touring and commercial projects, while considering market and budget limitations

Collaborate with the Learning and Engagement Department on programming for education and learning performance formats, including Artist in Residence Programme and Orchestra Unwrapped, leading as required

Collaborate with the Development Department on funding approaches to support programming, and work with them on programming fundraising performances and events

Collaborate with Head of Digital Product and Experience on repertoire and project development for PO Virtual Orchestra

Join the Artistic Committee discussions re future plans as required

Listen to recordings to assess suitability for release, and discussing in-house recordings with Artistic Committee.
Other

Work as part of the HODs team on developing future business plan and strategies built around the Orchestra’s mission, vision and values

Be in regular contact with Marketing colleagues to help shape season narrative and proof-read key documents.

Act as artistic liaison with external promoters and project partners as required

Attend rehearsals and performances at Southbank Centre and at venues out of London and overseas as required, in order to meet artists and monitor artistic performance and quality
Skills and Qualifications

Excellent track record of working in artistic planning or artist management (min 5-7 years)
-
First-class knowledge of orchestral repertoire and artists, as well as the work of the Philharmonia Orchestra

Demonstrable creative programming experience at an advanced level

Demonstrable entrepreneurial mindset with a successful history of creating new projects

Current experience of development of UK and international markets for orchestras

First class communications, influencing, and negotiation skills – and the ability to make the case effectively and enthusiastically

A collaborative team player able to develop excellent working relationships across the organisation

Flexible and positive attitude, as well as the ability to think laterally and creatively to overcome obstacles

High level of professionalism, self-motivation and organisation, and an ability to manage complex issues effectively.
