An accredited museum and award winning visitor attraction, Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome is a charity and the largest surviving Great War Aerodrome in Europe.

Our Friends Ageing Better (FAB) project is looking for volunteer hosts for our FAB cafés around Bristol. In this volunteer role, you’ll be part of creating vibrant, welcoming community spaces that build relationships and connect people with activities in their local community.
At Age UK Bristol, we want to change the way we age. We aim to keep people aged 55+ well and active, encouraging Bristol to be an Age Friendly city. We do this in 3 ways - through providing practical help and supporting people’s emotional and physical wellbeing in a range of ways depending on their needs. In addition, we want to prevent people from needing our help wherever possible. We do this in our strategic work, where we aim to create the conditions for older adults to remain healthy and independent.
We are looking for FAB Cafe Host Volunteers for the following cafes
- Avonmouth - Mondays, 2:30-4:30
- Southville - Tuesdays 10:00-2:30
- Withywood - Tuesdays 11:00-1:00
- St Werburghs LGBT+ - Thursdays, 10:00-12:00
- Fishponds - Fridays 2:00-4:00
The role involves
- Welcoming older people who are new to the FAB café
- Facilitating conversation and activities in the group
- Promoting your local FAB café and the FAB membership card scheme
- Keeping sign-up sheets for attendees at cafes
- Providing information about events and activities happening in the local area with the support of the FAB team

Overview:
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to assist in the operation of our new community cafe. Volunteers will support the Community Cafe Managers in delivering excellent customer service, making & serving meals (sandwiches, salads, daily specials) maintaining the cafe, and engaging with the community. Key Responsibilities:
1. Customer Service:
- Greet and welcome customers warmly.
- Take customer orders and process payments.
- Make & serve food and beverages to customers.

2. Cafe Maintenance:
- Assist in setting up and closing down the cafe each day.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in all areas of the cafe, including the kitchen, dining area, and restrooms.
- Wash dishes, clean tables, and ensure the cafe is tidy and presentable at all times.
3. Stock Management:
- Help monitor stock levels and report low supplies to the manager.
- Assist with the receipt, storage, and organisation of deliveries.
- Restock shelves and display areas as needed.
4. Community Engagement:
- Support community events and group activities held in the cafe.
- Engage with customers and community members, fostering a friendly and inclusive atmosphere.
- Help promote community programs and initiatives.
5. Team Collaboration:

About The Role

The Whiteley Homes Trust owns and manages Whiteley Village near Walton on Thames, where we have been supporting older people in need for over a century. - Providing information about events and activities happening in the local area with the support of the FAB team
The qualities and skills required for this role are
- A friendly disposition, with the ability to create a welcoming atmosphere and include people so as to encourage an enjoyable experience.
- Ability to be assertive and intervene if necessary, for instance manage group members who may dominate the conversation
- Reliability and punctuality – calls need to run on time.
- Access to a reliable internet connection and a computer or tablet.
- Confidence in using new software so that calls run on time and everyone connects with the group (training provided; the platform we use is quite straightforward and easy to learn).
- Good verbal communication skills to make everyone feel as comfortable as possible and encourage shyer callers.
- An understanding of the needs of older people.
- Ability to respond to any Safeguarding concerns and keep the environment safe.

We are recruiting new volunteers to join our Front of House Café Team!
The Bank Arts Centre (Eyes Open CIC) is a volunteer-led, not-for-profit Community Arts Centre providing a programme of creative and social activities including exhibitions, live events and workshops. At the heart of our offerings is our family-friendly café which continues to grow. To meet demand, we are looking for new volunteers to join our friendly team to assist with the day-to-day running of food and drink service.
As a Front of House Cafe Volunteer you will contribute to daily service including - greeting visitors, taking and preparing drinks orders, serving tables, maintaining clean and safe environment. This rewarding opportunity will allow you to develop new skills, gain confidence, become an active member in the community, and make a positive impact on our customers’ experience. If you're passionate about creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, love interacting with people, and enjoy the aroma of fresh coffee, this is the perfect opportunity for you!
Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but full training will be given. It is essential volunteers are willing to follow instructions, policies and procedures.
