About The Role
We’re WWT, the charity for wetlands and wildlife. We’re on a mission to restore wetlands because they are a wondrous solution to our world's problems. Together we will unlock their power – and help nature burst back to life. Because when wetlands flourish, all life will flourish. We lead the way, bring life and inspire connection.
Volunteers are integral to the running of our Welney centre and without their help we wouldn’t be able to welcome our visitors to this amazing wetland. Your role will be helping to bring people of all ages and backgrounds closer to wetland wildlife, by providing assistance to visitors and encouraging them to explore the site and learn about WWT’s pioneering wetland conservation work, to save wetlands for wildlife and people. You’ll support the delivery of excellent customer service for the retail and membership team, inspiring people to support us as members of the WWT, and be a warm and welcoming face for our cause.
We are looking for volunteers who can ideally give one day a week, exact hours to be agreed.

About You

Welney has a close-working team, and much of the time you will be working in a group, however, the ability to work under your own initiative and being self-motivated at other times is also needed.

Time commitment? We are looking for volunteers who can ideally commit to one day across the week. Shifts are negotiable, with suitable breaks. After completing training and an induction for this role, we ask volunteers to spend a minimum of 6 months volunteering with WWT Welney.
You’ll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and other information you need. This will include risk assessments based on your role and any particular support you need. Volunteers receive access to our sites, and discounts in our shops and cafes. Some roles include a uniform or require the use of equipment or protective clothing. If you are based at a particular site or office location, you’ll need to be able to get yourself there and back. Information on locations can be found on our website. We will keep you up to date with what’s happening across WWT and the difference you will be helping to make happen.

Age UK Notts are seeking individuals who would like to be considered as a volunteer for our Companion Service.
Volunteers will be supporting people remotely, in their own homes and in the community within Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and ideally, we ask all applicants to provide a minimum of 1 hour volunteering a week.
The companion service volunteer can choose to be:
• A companion telephone/video caller
• A companion within the person’s home
• A companion outside the person’s home
• Or a combination of all three.
Examples of the type of support the service offers include:
• Telephone / video calls for an older person/s on a regular basis at a mutually agreed time for a friendly chat.
• Supporting an older person/s hobbies and interests or simply chatting with them in their own home on a regular basis.
• Supporting with digital access & building confidence skills & motivation to access the opportunities of the internet.
• Supporting the person outside of their home e.g., by accompanying them on a walk, to the shops, to a café, garden centre, theatre or cinema or other social activities / community groups.
• Where appropriate, supporting the older person to access other services through information and signposting or referring to the Companion Service Coordinator for support.
We are looking for the following skills/interests:
• Individuals with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of older people who are committed to volunteering on a regular basis.
• Commitment to complete our Volunteer Report Form accurately and regularly.
• Ability to travel for visits in the local community either by car or public transport for those volunteers who choose to participate in this type of activity.
• Digital literacy for those volunteers who choose to participate in this type of activity.
Please do note, however, that at the moment we are not looking for Volunteer Telephone Companions.

About The Role
Volunteers are integral to the running of our Welney reserve and visitor centre and without their help we wouldn’t be able to welcome our visitors to this amazing 1300 acre wetland of international importance. Our volunteer team are friendly and committed, and say they benefit by gaining new experiences, meeting new people and sharing the story of our work.
At WWT Welney Wetland Centre we want to ensure that our visitors receive a warm, friendly welcome to ensure they have a memorable visit to our Visitor Centre and Reserve. In this role, you will be helping to bring people of all ages and backgrounds closer to wetland wildlife, by providing assistance for visitors to explore the reserve and learn about WWT’s pioneering wetland conservation work, to save wetlands for wildlife and people. In this role you will support the delivery of a range of interactive visitor engagement activities, including guided walks, and other seasonal activities, drawing people in by telling engaging stories about our work and inspiring people to support us as members of the WWT.
On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be answering visitor questions, helping them to navigate the reserve, and identifying basic wildlife. You'll get regular briefings to keep you up to date with what's going on at the centre, and we can offer coaching to help you feel more confident talking to our visitors and leading guided activities.

What is an Inventory volunteer?
The RAF Museum has many items in its collection which are not currently on display. Our inventory volunteers will ensure that we have an up-to-date record of all the items in our reserve collection, their purpose and condition, to help us prepare to move from our current store outside Stafford to a new storage facility in Cosford. This is a weekday only opportunity.
This role sits within the RAF Museum’s Midlands Development Programme which will transform our museum and our impact on the local community through a series of phased projects – engaging audiences who may not obviously identify with the RAF story by finding common interests and histories which link them. As part of this project, we are planning a new learning centre, outdoor spaces, collections hub and major exhibition.
What will I be doing?
The Inventory Volunteer role could encompass various tasks, which might include:

· Undertaking cleaning as required

In the last year, 9,499 adults accessed Hestia’s mental health support.
We help people to feel safe, develop hope for a better future, and achieve their personal goals. These goals may include rebuilding relationships with family members and friends or connecting more with their local community.

We are looking for volunteers for our Hastings drop in group, which meets for a communication cafe-style drop-in group on the last Friday of the month between 10.30-12.30.
The Say Aphasia charity provides support groups across the UK for people with aphasia; a language and communication disability caused by a brain injury like a stroke. Aphasia affects over 350,000 people in the UK but is little understood or known about by the public. It is the only aphasia charity set up by people with aphasia for people with aphasia; helping them to adapt to their new way of life and regain their independence and confidence.
Aphasia occurs due to injury to the brain such as a stroke. It affects access to language, resulting in difficulties following conversations, speaking, reading and writing.
Volunteers will support the running of the group with communicating, and will have the opportunity to utilise their communication skills and IT knowledge to take a register of attendance.
Responsibilities
- Provide companionship and support to individuals, particularly those living with asphasia.
- Assist in organising activities that promote social interaction and engagement.
- Communicate effectively with participants, ensuring their needs are understood and met.
- Help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.
- Collaborate with other volunteers to enhance the group.
Qualifications
- An understanding or knowledge in aphasia is desirable.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups.
- Proficiency in IT, including familiarity with common software applications.

What are we looking for?
A talented, reliable and committed individual with varied commercial and charity experience, to provide additional guidance and contribute to the strategic direction of the charity, as Chair of Trustees and line manager to the centre’s General Manager.
Previous experience in a similar environment and/or third sector role will be helpful, particularly with Board or Executive Committee experience. Other specific business skills will be useful in supporting and coaching the existing team, for example:
Financial Management; Business Development/Sales; Strategy, Organisation and Planning; Operational Management; Leadership/Coaching; Law/Contracts; Governance; Facilities Management; Fundraising; Marketing; Digital/Social; Safeguarding; Health & Safety.
Most importantly, we are looking for DRIVE and PASSION that aligns with our purpose and charitable aims, and for commitment to support our strategic direction and commercial success. We need an open, collaborative team player with talents that will complement our existing Trustee skillset, and the ability to understand and oversee the full operation.
The time commitment requires virtual or on-site attendance at quarterly Board meetings and other ad hoc committee meetings, including participating in occasional community events. Regular line management meetings and site visits will also be necessary to monitor progress, provide advice and gain the required insight to be the critical friend to the charity.
Organisation of meetings, and support to the executive team is anticipated to take around 5 hours per week, although this could vary significantly, as specific projects may involve additional work and time.
What will you be doing?
As an individual with experience and knowledge of how successful organisations operate, you will coordinate meetings and make decisions with the Board of Trustees and the General Manager to help design, implement and support strategies that will enhance the long-term sustainability of the charity. You will work closely with other Trustees, and get to know about clients, staff, partners and beneficiaries. You will make a difference by bringing your commercial acumen, and specialist knowledge to drive efficiency within the charity’s operations and ensure that opportunities to demonstrate best practice are identified in all that we do. You will be curious and willing to challenge the status quo, but also support, coach and mentor.
As Chair of the Board you will ensure that meetings are relevant, timely, well planned, structured and concise. In doing all of this, you will play a key role in helping to secure the future of the charity by achieving its objectives in the immediate and long term.

EASTLEIGH YOUTH AND COMMUNITY TRUST - What do we do?
We are an independent charity, based at the Pavilion on the Park in Eastleigh. We exist to promote active and flourishing lives by creating a variety of energising and enriching experiences which connect people and build community. We do this by:
- managing a purpose-built inclusive community building, available for public hire;
- engaging people in social, recreational, and cultural activities which promote personal development, wellbeing and connection;
- working with other local organisations towards a shared common purpose of developing a thriving community and improving lives in Eastleigh;
- adopting a ‘whole-systems approach’ to place-making in Eastleigh;
- creating a positive and inclusive environment at our centre, where everyone is celebrated for their individuality and supported to participate in activities on their own terms in ways that suit them.
People come together regularly at the Pavilion on the Park for many different reasons. On average, around 500 people a week benefit from the numerous, varied activities and events that take place. These include participants in both Trust-led and hirer-led activities, private bookings, and customers of our café.
We are delighted to have recently secured almost £500k from the National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund to deliver a five-year community project. This will enable us to develop new activities and opportunities which are led by the communities we serve.
Our current Trust-led programme of activities include:
One4all – a social and recreational programme for adults with additional needs.
Little Pixies & Pixies Plus – stay, learn and play activities for 0–8-year-olds and their adult carers.
Cycles4all – adapted bikes available for hire five days a week.
Sensory4all – specialist sensory therapy in a purpose-designed space
Connect2Thrive –activities which bring the community together in collective action to promote sustainable and self-sufficient living and good physical and mental health.
In addition, The Blackbird Café is open seven-days a week and provides locally sourced, home-cooked cakes and savouries. It is a social hub for dog walkers, park runners, activity groups and friendship groups. It is a popular choice for people with disabilities who have the confidence of an inclusive environment and a Changing Places facility on hand. We are also home to many regular hirers, including Aspire Martial Arts, Thrive Church, 4th Eastleigh Scouts, Laura Green Yoga, Harmony Twirlers, and many more.

Who we are
ECA offers a Social Centre that serves as a place for people to reconnect with old friends and meet new people in a secure and inviting setting. While activities are primarily aimed at elderly and vulnerable adults in the local area, the centre is open to everyone.
Our current programme includes
- Social gatherings at the Elleray Social Centre.
- Arts, crafts, educational talks, and workshops.
- Exercise Classes, Gentle fitness classes tailored for seniors, both indoor and outdoor.
- Counselling and support groups.
- Outings

How we operate
The Social Centre is managed by a Centre Manager, Administrator, Activity and Volunteer Coordinator, and a cook. They are supported by a team of approximately 40 volunteers who assist in the office, gardens, café, and facilitate daily activities. The organization operates as a Charitable Company regulated by the Charities Commission and has eight Trustees on the Board of Trustees. The Trustees meet six times a year, with additional meetings as needed.

Chair Role Description
- Provide strategic leadership to the charity and the Board, ensuring that ECA achieves its mission.
- Work in partnership with the Centre Manager and team to achieve ECA’s mission.
- Lead the board in ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation.
- Optimise the relationship between the board and ECA’s staff and volunteers.
- Plan and chair the board meetings and the AGM, with others as appropriate.
- Act as a spokesperson and figurehead for ECA.
What we are looking for
- Ideally previous experience of being a trustee.
- A keen sense of strategic purpose.
- Governance and committee experience in a charity or business setting.
- Strong in execution and managing transformation projects, including leading the charity in the new ECA building setting.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and ability to constructively negotiate and collaborate with various institutions, entities, and personnel.
- Affinity with and commitment to the local SW London and Teddington area.
- Business experience and awareness across finance, risk, IT, and people management, would be desirable.
- An inclusive leadership style, able to inspire and support everyone to participate on an equal footing.
- The ability to listen and engage effectively, comfortable with challenge and debate and able to encourage that in others whilst fostering a collaborative board environment.
- In advocation, be able and willing to champion ECA’s work through personal networks, social media, and other channels.
- A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Be available, responsive and flexible to advise, support or give consent to, as needed.
Terms of office
- Trustees are appointed for a 3-year term of office, renewal for 2 further terms to a maximum of 9 years.
- This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
Time commitment
- Attending [6] Board meetings annually. Currently meetings are generally held in person at the ECA building.
- Periodic meetings with the Centre Manager and management team, with flexibility to respond swiftly to the occasional ad-hoc issues.
- Other meetings, including on potential strategy and other charity-related issues.
In addition to the above, the Chair will have the responsibilities and qualities of all trustees:

- Support and provide advice on ECA’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
- Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
- Oversee ECA’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
- Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
- Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
- Review and approve ECA’s financial statements.
- Provide support and challenge to the ECA’s management team in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
- Keep abreast of changes in ECA’s operating environment.
- Contribute to regular reviews of the ECA’s own governance.
- Convene and attend Board meetings, and be prepared to contribute to discussions and lead on proposed outcomes.
- Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect ECA’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third-party interests.
- Contribute to the broader promotion of ECA’s objects, aims, and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge, and contacts.

The Elleray Centre
The Centre will be fully accessible, featuring a lift to the first floor. It includes a large hall that can split into two rooms and two additional activity rooms upstairs. A café and lounge will also open onto a garden with outdoor seating.
The funding for the new centre comes from Richmond Council, acknowledging ECA's local contributions over three decades. The future centre is leased from the council.

Rochdale and District Mind is a mental health charity that supports people in the community who are facing mental health challenges. Our area of operation is Heywood, Middleton, Rochdale, Bury and N.E. Lancashire. As part of the Mind Federation and the Mind in Greater Manchester partnership, our goal is to ensure that individuals do not face mental health issues alone and can live free from stigma and discrimination.
Our team consists of over 70 dedicated staff members and volunteers who provide a wide variety of services and activities, including counselling, therapeutic group workshops, advocacy, crisis support, dementia support, two wellbeing cafés, as well as other wellbeing activities such as sports sessions. To ensure our services are effective and rooted in the needs of the community, we involve people who use our services in shaping our offer. We are also pleased to be recognised for our work with our Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities in Rochdale. We work proactively both with our service users and with other key stakeholder organisations to tackle health inequalities.
Chair opportunity
We are flexible in our approach and are open to a single Chair or Co-Chair arrangement. We are looking for people with governance experience, the ability to lead and alignment with our values.
