Job description

Communications (60%)

  • Manage annual communications plan for all channels, identifying potential news stories, and working across our teams to plan and develop content.
  • Work with colleagues to support their use of the Charity’s website and communication channels, both digital and offline, based on needs of supporter base.
    • Maintain press release and communication templates for volunteers / local groups.
    • Help colleagues and volunteers to deliver consistent tone of voice in their comms.
    • Compile and produce e-news & policy updates in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Lead on PR; maintain and develop relationships with key journalists, keep media lists updated, ensure RoadPeace is on relevant press release distribution lists, create and disseminate media and stakeholder briefings and press releases.
    • Focus on National Road Victim Month (Aug) & World Day of Remembrance (Nov)
    • Support the promotion of RoadPeace events and projects with colleagues.
    • Share content with partners and stakeholders for their own channels
    • Work closely with colleagues / volunteers to prepare them for media interviews
  • Lead on content-gathering & creation; be aware of issues across the sector and create content for the Charity’s channels – website, digital, multimedia and offline as appropriate.
  • Manage & grow RoadPeace’s social media channels, publishing content, driving, and responding to engagement; working closely with local groups to support their channels.
  • Track, measure & report on the effectiveness of the Charity’s communication channels.

Campaigns (40%)

  • Campaign development Working with the CEO, Board of Trustees, staff, local groups, and members, coordinate the development of relevant focused lobbying and campaigns to further RoadPeace’s aims and objectives 
  • Campaign delivery Manage, deliver, and monitor a work programme, towards achieving the target policy changes the charity has identified, including meeting agreed milestones and internal and external project reporting, as required. 
  • Create campaign toolkits and materials to enable action to be taken nationally and locally through activities such as petitions, campaigning packs, and direct enquiry responses.
  • Work closely with local groups to support their own campaigns and provide direct support where appropriate.
  • Coordinate with and support victims and partners to campaign on traffic justice, road danger reduction and promote active travel. 
  • Coordinate campaign and media training for victim campaigners and survivor advocates, bringing in external support where budget pro-bono opportunity allow.
  • Coordinate campaign calls and actions with sustainable transport partners. 

Ways of working

  • Manage, deliver, and monitor a work programme, including reporting against agreed milestones outputs and outcomes, and internal and external project reporting, as required.
  • Work in partnership with other organisations, where this will maximise impact of our activities.

About you:

  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent, ideally in a relevant discipline
  • Understanding and experience of UK broadcast, print and social media
  • Experience of leading, delivering and supporting national and local campaigns and ensuring joined up working across the organisation
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communications skills including experience in creating content and proof reading
  • Promote and implement RoadPeace’s policies, e.g. equal opportunities and diversity, to consistently deliver on our strategy, raise awareness and grow membership
