Financial Management

Plan, implement and in accordance with funding guidance, financial procedures, and policies, take responsibility for diversifying Think Active’s income streams through in line with the strategy and business development plan

Project and budget management (up to c£300,000) including forecasting, monitoring of income and expenditure, plus the submission of financial reporting
Demonstrating Impact
Reporting progress and capturing value through case studies and evaluation processes designed to evidence the impact targets. Story telling – the ability to articulate the impact and value of Think Active (locally, regionally, nationally across various sectors)
Marketing and Communications

Contribute to Think Active’s Active Societies objective by aligning projects and work align with and enhance the work of the Marketing and Communications Lead.

By building partnerships and brand visibility you will play an important role in enhancing Think Active’s marketing and communications efforts by strategically cultivating and managing partnerships. This includes developing and implementing joint marketing campaigns with partners to elevate Think Active (and our partners and funders) brand visibility.

You will collaborate with internal colleagues and external stakeholders to create compelling narratives that showcase the impact of our projects and initiatives, driving awareness and engagement.

The Role:

Individual Giving : To manage individual giving to increase regular donors and one off donations, stewarding existing donors to uplift average gifts.
Events : Working with the volunteer officer to lead on events to ensure income and exposure for SMART.
Corporates : To establish relationships with companies locally and nationally to increase income.
Community : To work with local organisations, delivering talks and inspiring gifts and donations, monetary or goods in kind. Stewarding friends of SMART groups.
Digital : To manage all aspects of online fundraising, across our website, CRM and social media platforms.
Appeals : To manage our annual winter appeal, creating new opportunities for support.
Marketing : To work with the Business Team to create inspiring campaigns and marketing materials.
Reporting : To create meaningful reports to help further support and donations.
Essential Criteria :
- A minimum of a level 3 qualification in a relevant fundraising, marketing, media, event management or business qualification. OR A minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a fundraiser in the charitable sector.
- A proactive attitude, with the ability to carry out projects through to completion and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage people at all levels.
- Demonstrable experience of building and maintain relationships to support fundraising.
- Demonstrated ability to gain sponsorship deals.
- Demonstrated experience in volunteer recruitment and management.
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues facing homeless/rough sleeping individuals.
- Demonstrable ability to meet financial targets.
- Strong administration skills.
- An understanding of HR processes with regard to volunteers (including recruitment).
- Good organisational and project management skills.
- Good working knowledge of a range of computer software packages. including (but not limited to) Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and CRM tools.
- Ability to manage time effectively & multiple, sometimes conflicting priorities.

You will be proficient in various analytics platforms (e.g. Google Analytics 4 and Bing Analytics), and email and social media tracking tools, with experience in drafting clear, concise reports and in providing considered recommendations based on your insights.
You will also be confident using Google Data Studio/Looker, Google Tag Manager, Hotjar and various SEO tools. You will have a sound working knowledge of cookie compliance and take on the role of team lead for ensuring GDPR compliance and organisational confidence across paid media plans.

About the role
This hands-on role will lead the implementation of global communications strategies for ITF’s Land and
Air Sections (LAS): Aviation, Railways, Road Transport, Tourism and Urban Transport.
The LAS Communications Manager will work closely with the industrial sections and affiliates to push forward a union-led agenda for the aviation and inland transport industries.
Working within a multi-disciplinary team, this role will work collaboratively to deliver and evaluate forward-thinking communication strategies for these industrial work programs and their priority campaigns. The role will include targeting diverse audiences including transport workers in the industries, employers, allies, media, policy makers, political leaders and the wider public. Fundamental to this role will be an ability to develop expert knowledge and keep on top of policy and industrial issues facing aviation, railway, road transport, tourism and public transport workers, and effectively interpret and analyse the complex issues and challenges into communications strategies that advance workers’ rights.
You will be part of delivering solidarity and support to local, national and global disputes, building communications that reinforce the critical role transport workers in the land and air industries play, developing strategies to support union-led policies on everything from health and safety to sustainability, and raising the volume on the global struggle to advance the rights and equalities of the world’s transport workers.

The position:
You will manage our Volunteer team, requiring exceptional communication, a natural affinity for people management and organisation, and an ability to inspire people to get involved with our work. You will be responsible for the overarching strategy and success of the Volunteer Program.
Line managing two members of staff, you will ensure our Volunteer team sets and meets their strategic goals, contributing to our organisational priorities. Hours:
This is a temporary 12 month maternity cover, full-time position over Monday to Friday.
From 1st July 2024 we are piloting a four day working week across the whole of the UK organisation. This pilot is planned to run for 12 months, at which point a decision will be made by our Board of Trustees as to whether this will become permanent. Success of the trial relies on the organisation being able to achieve the same or improved level of impact in four working days as five, with staff experiencing either the same or improved levels of wellbeing.
During the four day week pilot, working hours for this position will be reduced to 30 hours per week, spanning Monday to Thursday, with no reduction in salary. This will be a temporary change to the contractual terms for the successful candidate. The appointed person must be prepared to increase their working hours to 37.5 hours per week if a return to a five-day working week is decided. In the event that THL UK considers before the end of the trial period that the trial is having an adverse operational impact, we reserve the right to bring the trial to end on one month’s notice.
Who you are:
Volunteers will be your passion. You’ll have a deep understanding of the importance of this kind of supporter and how to best steward their specific experience and manage their unique needs. You'll understand how to best manage and recruit volunteers, mobilising our UK wide network effectively both remotely and on the ground in order to create change. You’ll know how to best communicate and engage with them in order to make the most out of their time and efforts. You are someone who wouldn’t ask volunteers to do something you wouldn’t do yourself and you’ll ideally have some kind of experience of campaigning in a paid or voluntary capacity (e.g. attending protests).
Someone with previous line management experience is desirable, as you’ll need to be able to effectively manage and lead your team of direct reports.
As a member of the Leadership level of the organisation, you’re someone who can meaningfully contribute to organisation wide decision making, thinking holistically and strategically across teams.
As the manager and leader of your team, you’ll have demonstrable experience of organising several deliverables or projects, which involve multiple teams, at any one time.
You can forward think strategically and collaboratively, considering the volunteer program as well as the work of other teams, setting realistic timelines with this in mind and meeting deadlines reliably.
You’re adaptable, and can work nimbly, with desirable experience working specifically within a campaign environment in some way, where things can change quickly and unexpectedly.
You’re someone who can keep your cool in challenging situations, being able to problem solve and reprioritise with ease to lead your team to success, even when things change at the last minute. You are able to continually evaluate and identify areas of improvement for the volunteer program, recognising key opportunities to evolve and adapt for the best possible impact for animals.
Home based, you’ll have a strong ability to work independently, but you’re also someone who can work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

What the job involves
As Communications Planning Manager you’ll be reviewing all incoming internal communications briefs, ensuring they have clear objectives, audiences, and timelines, and are aligned to organisational priorities and goals. You’ll be responsible for leading as well as updating, when necessary, our briefing and communications team process.
You’ll be responsible for workflows across the communications directorate, having oversight of capacity, prioritising and scheduling work accordingly. You’ll support annual business and resource planning; helping the organisation prioritise and understand the potential impact vs effort in business decisions.
To ensure our teams can work at their optimum we’re currently updating our approach to communications processes, including updating our project management tools, prioritisation structure and our wider programme management office.
What we want from you
To be successful in the role you’ll need to have exceptional organisational skills and be a strategic thinker who thrives on implementing and driving new processes to deliver efficiency.
You’ll have demonstrable experience with stakeholder and relationship management – building rapport at all levels, managing conflicting priorities and ensuring effective use of resources. In reviewing briefs you’ll be comfortable in challenging the details provided and developing briefs with product owners to ensure resources are being used effectively.
A background in marketing communications or similar would be ideal for understanding the needs from the start in developing effective campaigns. Experience in using workflow tools (like Trello) or Agile methodologies will be desirable but not essential.

The Senior Services and Development Lead role is about making a difference, supporting the most vulnerable, standing up against what is wrong, driving systemic change, and holding decision makers to account. The team work hard so beneficiaries sleep better at night, families can reunite at the end of the working day, and victims of harassment and stalking can regain control of their situations.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, deliver and develop operational projects, ensuring the work of the Suzy Lamplugh Trust has maximum impact and is embedded into the core output of the charity.
- Lead on the National Stalking Helpline, National Advocacy Service which offers support and advice to thousands of victims of stalking every year, and the Cleveland Advocacy project.
