This role involves working with people across all of Barnet’s diverse communities. Therefore, we’re looking for people with a demonstrable commitment to the social model of disability and equality, with their own direct lived experience of disability, and an ambition to contribute to a fairer society for all.
The successful candidate will spend their time delivering a frontline welfare benefits triaging service with the support of a senior caseworker.
To succeed, you will need experience of advice work which includes using a benefits calculator and signposting. The role also involves managing our telephone and email inbox into the advice service and obtaining feedback about the service from clients alongside initial advice giving. The role will include some casework including concessionary travel claims when capacity allows and with relevant training.
You will need excellent communication skills and be unphased by people presenting with multiple issues, often in emotional distress. You’ll be excited by the challenge of learning new things and have a good knowledge of the services used by disabled people.

This is a home-based role, with some travel around Barnet needed, approx. 2 days a month. Most of the triaging work can be completed online or over the telephone, but there may be a need for some face-to-face client work from time to time. You will therefore need to live within a reasonable travelling distance of Barnet. Some travel to other venues in London may also be required, for example for staff away days or other meetings.
We encourage flexible working to suit your work/life balance preferences where possible; however, some working days might be determined by appointments. We also operate a Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) system.

Background Information
Spitfire Advice & Support Services (Birmingham) Limited is not-for-profit organisation that offers help, information and support to clients from the most excluded communities. We are currently funded to deliver our services in Castle Vale Ward and all the Sutton Coldfield post codes. Other funding we have enables the delivery of a number of projects that support our client’s including our Money Advice and Financial inclusion programmes.
Our Money Advice Caseworkers’ support clients who are affected by welfare reforms and have complex welfare benefits and debt issues. The appointee will need to have extensive experience of Legal Services Commission casework in the context of the Advice Quality Standard and will have worked in a target driven environment but who will also understand that people will always be our priority.
Essential Qualifications:
a)Educated to degree or equivalent level or have demonstrable work experience in the delivery of debt and benefit advice.
b)Hold either an IMA (Institute of Money Advisers) qualification or have recent GGDA (Giving Good Debt Advice) training.
Job Purpose
The key purpose of the role is to deliver a first-class specialist debt and money advice service to clients in need of support. ensuring income maximisation for all clients through the take up of appropriate welfare benefits.
We use a digital case managment system which enables hybrid working to function smoothly.
Case Workers Core Duties (extracte from the full Job Description for the role)
a) The delivery to AQS standard of the core Money Advice Service. This may be via telephone, MS Teams, email or face to face
b) The provision of advocacy and court representation at tribunals or other statutory bodies as appropriate.
c) Taking client instructions; this may include but is not limited to; drafting letters/emails to the client and third parties, preparing financial statements and negotiating with third parties.
d) Ensuring income maximisation through the take up of appropriate welfare benefits.
e) Working to targets to ensure that we meet all our contractual obligations.
f) Managing own caseload, opening and closing cases appropriately and carrying out reviews as required by AQS and the Head of Advice
g) The support, with other team members/volunteers, of the delivery of the service on an outreach basis if required.
h) Maintain accurate case and client records using our digital case management system and for purpose of continuity of client casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring and reporting preparation to AQS standards.
i) Ensuring that all casework meets AQS standards and complies with Money Advice Team Procedural Manual.
j) The maintenance of records and other data ensuring that it is up to date and accurate; either paper records (as required by Tribunal cases) or on our digital casework management system.
k) Ensuring that all confidential information is managed in line with the company’s Confidentiality Policy and GDPR Policy.

About this key role
As our A&E Hospital Intervention Caseworker, you will be embedded in Coventry Hospital’s emergency department where you will assess referred clients and produce support and risk management plans based on your assessments. You will promote inter-agency collaboration in the assessment and planning process, and including appropriate agencies in the delivery of the service. You will also develop and maintain relationships with partner agencies, including hospital, police, local authorities and other voluntary organisations, and liaise closely with other St Giles teams with reference to referrals, avoiding duplication.
We will count on you to deliver a holistic support service, working solo or with colleagues as the situation dictates, where you will provide a practical service that will include social and housing support, accompanying to appointments, ETE options, benefits work and debt advice. Closing cases efficiently and positively, identifying a referral route for the client that will identify agencies that can be used for on-going support, and promoting the value of lifestyle changes to the client group are also essential duties.
What we are looking for
- Personal experience of the criminal justice system, lived experience of the issues facing this client group and/or experience of working with vulnerable young people and/or families
- Substantial experience of providing support, advice and advocacy and communicating effectively the needs of clients to other professionals
- Substantial experience of assessing the needs of young people at risk of significant harm
- Experience of using support plans, to enable people to successfully access support services
- Substantial experience of engaging successfully with ‘challenging’ young people
- To have a relevant qualification to a good standard or be working towards one
- Excellent IT, interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

Fighting With Pride (FWP) is looking for an outstanding regionally focused LGBTQ+ Veterans Community Worker covering the West and East Midlands region (Staffordshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, West Midlands, Warwickshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire).
For a fixed term contract of 32 months, this fundamental, enabling, rewarding and busy role will make a real difference to the lives of LGBTQ+ Veterans, serving personnel and their families, around the UK. FWP was formed in January 2020 to support LGBTQ+ Veterans, serving personnel and their families and is a registered charity, founded by Caroline Paige and Craig Jones, now led by Peter Gibson and overseen by a dynamic and experienced Board of Trustees.

About the role
Our passionate Regional Casework Coordinators are SSAFA’s front line of support for members of the armed forces community in need. They are the first point of contact for all beneficiaries into the Regional Office, assessing needs and allocating the case to one of our volunteer caseworkers.
You will sometimes handle complex problems from individuals who may be distressed, identifying the presenting and potential underlying needs to determine the best way to support the beneficiary. You will have ownership of cases from beginning to end, coordinating the casework process in a timely manner and ensure that the beneficiary journey is at the centre of the Service. You will have the opportunity to shape processes and procedures within the office which will lead to improvements in the service offered to clients.
To help you establish yourself in this new post you will receive excellent training and induction to SSAFA.
Whilst the post is homebased, to be eligible for this role you are required to live in the South West region in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire or Somerset. There will be occasional travel around the South West Region, and you will be required to travel for quarterly face to face team meetings.
About the team
The team work remotely and pride themselves in maintaining a close working bond which ensures the smooth operation of the office. You will work closely with volunteers from the eight SSAFA branches in the South West, supporting them to administer casework for SSAFA beneficiaries. The successful candidate will work as part of a larger team of 10, which includes two Regional Casework Managers and a Regional Operations Manager.
About you
To carry out this role successfully you will have a track record of providing welfare advice in key areas such as housing benefits, debt, disability, mobility or immigration issues. You will have knowledge of safeguarding and GDPR and experience in dealing with sensitive information and people in vulnerable situations. You will be able to provide excellent customer service by telephone, e-mail and face to face. You will have used Microsoft Office 365 to a high standard. It is important that you have experience of planning and managing your own workload, with minimal supervision.
It would be advantageous if you have an understanding of the way of life for today’s Armed Forces, veterans and their families and if you have experience of recruiting and supporting volunteers. An understanding of the voluntary sector and preferably the military charity sector landscape across the South West would be valuable
