Main Job Focus
- The COO ensures that all operational governance, finance and HR matters of the BSG are dealt with effectively and to the highest standard.

Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with CEO and Senior Management team to develop and implement the charity’s strategy
- Work closely with the Board of Trustees, Executive and Council preparing agendas and papers for meetings, attending the meetings and taking Minutes
- Ensure all aspects of the Society’s Governance are managed effectively
- Companies House/Charity Commission filing
- Management of the HR function to include administration using Breath HR, induction of new staff, BSG Officers and Trustees
- Management of the election process for committee members
- Ensure governance of the charity is dealt with effectively including all policies and procedures implementing change where necessary
- Be the Data Protection Officer for the charity ensuring that the charity is GDPR compliant
- Preparation and management of budgets with the CEO

- Attend and support the BSG annual conference which takes place over four days in June each year.

As our Registration, Accreditation and Membership Manager you will be responsible for overseeing the membership lifecycle process. In addition, this role coordinates and actively manages the administration of applications and renewals for the Institute’s accreditation and professional registration assessments, working closely with our voluntary assessors and committees. These functions are managed using the Institute’s CRM system and integrated software.
You will coordinate and actively manage the flow of applications for IFST’s wide range of membership and other registration assessment processes, via our network of trained assessors. The role is also responsible for monitoring and reporting to ensure consistently high standards of assessment are maintained, and for the maintenance and integrity of our registers including CPD associated with our registers. You will efficiently manage the accreditation of training programmes and courses.
You will be a confident communicator with an eye for detail and knowledge of Professional Development and Recognition and/or CPD schemes. Ideally you will have Food Sector and/or University sector experience. As the lead role in our Membership team, you’ll line manage our Registration and Accreditation Officer and our Registration and Accreditation Administrator to provide an excellent service to our members. The Group Finance Director holds a key role in the executive team in the Foundation Office of the Charity. They are accountable for all matters relating to the UWGCF Charity finance, including the oversight of school income, endowment investments, loans, subsidiary companies, VAT, and the leadership of the Foundation finance team. We are seeking a driven and dynamic Marketing & Communications Administrator to join our expanding team to help support the operational delivery of Foundations work and to raise our profile, grow our business and share our successes.
Applicants must have relevant experience in marketing, communications, and general administration at trustee or senior level. They should be excellent communicators, highly organised, and task-focused, with strong written skills and the ability to engage with a wide range of people. Excellent IT skills are also essential.
The job will be a combination of homeworking and office based and flexible working can be considered. We are particularly keen to welcome applications from diverse communities and the communities with lived experience of inequality and those we aim to support through our work.
Responsibilities
Raising the profile of the Foundation by implementing an imaginative and inspiring programme in Marketing and Communications under the direction of the Head of Business Development.
Work with Head of Grants and Programmes to plan and timetable promotion of new grants programmes and regular promotion of ongoing programmes. Working at times with external marketing and comms teams to agree key messaging.
Compile and share a range of inspiring donor, charity and community stories and case studies which bring to life the Foundation’s impact.
Support, maintain and update the Foundation’s website, ensuring that it is inspiring, engaging and up to date with content. Help set up and access additional platforms as required e.g. online donations, raffles, other Trusts who are contracted to the Foundation.
Develop the Foundation’s wider digital presence through social media and use of content marketing to raise awareness of the Foundation’s expertise, share good news stories and promote available funding e.g. through regular charity and business newsletters.
Under the guidance and leadership of the Head of BD and CEO provide specific public relations support, including preparing press releases and producing articles for local magazines and relevant publications.
Maintain a library of relevant and up to date marketing materials, photographs illustrating the Foundation’s work and partnership logos and guidance for use. Manage permissions and GDPR for all communications work and marketing collateral.
Attend UK Community Foundations (UKCF) Marcomms meetings.
Work with the CEO to prepare and manage quarterly Board meetings for Foundation and as required other partners (incl JCT) at an executive admin level.
Preparing for meetings: prep of papers, managing dates and availability; minute taking and general administration for Board level members under clear and strict requirements around confidentiality.
Regular updating of requirements of Board incl: EDI data and references; annual Conflict of Interest; DBS and other requirements.
Supporting Chair of Trustee in their role as required and in an administrative support.
Support general office administration such as maintenance of equipment inventories and training records and PAT testing schedules and others task to ensure smooth running of the main office.
Organize events to showcase the Foundation’s work, including functions for donors, potential donors, community and voluntary groups.
Support the Head of Business development to identified campaigns and additional programmes to grow the Foundations reach. Work with Head of BD to write creative briefs and to shape to recruit additional capacity as required.
Work as an effective Ambassador for the Foundation always, including at events and external networking.
Represent the Foundation on agreed marketing and Comms networks incl UKCF and others to be agreed.
Work closely with other members of the team to ensure that the Foundation achieves excellence in grant-making and all its operational aspects.
Represent the Foundation externally as required.
Use computer equipment and software for administrative and communication duties including Canva, new website CMS, Microsoft Office, online communications, and the Salesforce Database.
Carry out other associated duties, which may arise, develop, or be assigned, in line with the scale and general nature of the post.

This role is about leading and enabling the incredible team of people on to even greater levels of already-strong performance. So we're looking for an accomplished leader and not just a great manager. We're looking for someone who can lead from both the front - and from within. This will be someone who is as comfortable sitting and engaging with our beneficiaries - primarily homeless people and those with previous convictions, as they are creating and delivering highly polished, compelling public event and funder and stakeholder-focussed presentations. We are looking for someone who understands the balance of external and internal focus required to ensure both good governance and team wellbeing (as they work in often challenging circumstances) and the ambition to keep developing existing and new external partnerships. With a strong start to its ambitious Corporate Partnership programme, commercial and/or business experience is highly desirable as well as a proven track record in creating and optimising new funding channels.

About Us
The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Additionally, our UR4Jobs project focusses on both client wellbeing and breaking down the many barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged people every day.
The role
Is leading the charity through its next phases of development as it prepares itself for year on year increases in demand with a focus on delivering the charity’s future resilience plan (Project 12/25). The CEO is accountable for overall charity performance (financial, operational, governance, compliance), team (paid and volunteer) support and development. Additionally, there are a wide range of community and external partner relationships to manage and develop. Ultimately this role sets the tone for the charity, one of both compassion and ambition to improve the lives of the people who need us. This is primarily an on-site role, with occasional opportunity to work flexibly.
About You
You have a stable CV that demonstrates you have built and led successful teams and enabled growth and/or transformation for your organisation – ideally in an equivalent charity/non-profit environment. You can evidence strong team leadership and results across a wide range of business functions which will need to include income generation, managing budgets and business operations. The role:
This key role in the Trust’s staff team will be reporting to the Head of Finance & Resources. The postholder will provide practical, administrative, project-management and communications support to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team.
