Who we are

artsdepot is a prominent cultural venue located in North London, specifically at 5 Nether Street, Tally Ho Corner, North Finchley. It stands as the only multi-space professional arts centre in Barnet, London’s second most populous borough, which boasts over 400,000 residents. The organisation’s vision is “A Creative Home for Everyone,” with a mission to engage every family in Barnet with a creative experience by 2027.

The venue is equipped with diverse facilities, including a 395-seat Pentland Theatre, a 151-seat Studio Theatre, three arts and education studios, a gallery, a creative research lab, a café, a bar and a free soft play area for children. Additionally, artsdepot hosts London Studio Centre, an undergraduate college, complete with its own dance studios, lecture theatre and library.

Annually, artsdepot welcomes over 170,000 visitors and generates a turnover of approximately £2.7 million, recognised as a National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England. 87% of its income is self-generated from diverse income streams, including box office takings, tenant rent, hired events, fundraising and its café and bar.

The organisation operates as The Arts Depot Trust Limited, a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity, governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association.

About the role

The Chair will provide crucial leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that all Trustees are able to effectively fulfil their responsibilities. This role involves a close working partnership with the Chief Executive / Creative Director to ensure the effective implementation of Board decisions.

Key duties include:

• Acting as the leader and spokesperson of the Board, closely engaging with the Company and its activities, and representing artsdepot at external events when appropriate.
• Supporting the Chief Executive/Creative Director in fulfilling their duties.
• Serving as the decision-maker on urgent matters requiring Board authorisation that cannot await the next Board meeting, with all such decisions brought to the full Board for ratification and staying within agreed policy parameters.
• Leading and motivating the Board on specific issues, such as fundraising and advocacy.
• Providing leadership to the Board and setting its agenda.
• Ensuring the provision of accurate, timely and clear information to Trustees and assessing the effectiveness of both individual Trustees and the Board as a whole.
• Ensuring Trustees are given sufficient time to consider critical issues and realistic deadlines for decision-making.

As with all Trustee roles, the Chair will be responsible for holding the charity “in trust” for beneficiaries by ensuring artsdepot has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction, and actively pursues its charitable objects and complies with its Articles of Association.

As Vice-Chair of Trustees you will provide strategic direction for the charity, ensuring that we are meeting the demand for our services, and making certain that we help and support people in crisis in the local community.

Key tasks

Vice-Chairperson Responsibilities:

• work alongside the Chairperson to ensure the board functions effectively and carries out its duties
• ensure the board sets an overall direction for the food bank with clear objectives
• ensure that the business of meetings is dealt with, and decisions are recorded and implemented
• in consultation with the rest of the board, recruit board members with relevant expertise and experience when required

• to ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity, responding to changes in the local community as appropriate
• to ensure appropriate financial plans are in place, budgets are monitored, financial statements are reviewed, and progress is evaluated
• to help promote the organisation to key stakeholders and beneficiaries
• to ensure the charity has appropriate procedures to comply with current legislation and good practice, including employment, health and safety, equity, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding, and GDPR compliance/data protection
• to prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.

Overview

Refugee Action Kingston (RAK) is an active and forward-looking charity based in Kingston Upon Thames. We help refugees and people seeking asylum to access essential services, including immigration and welfare advice, English classes, counselling and support into employment, volunteering and training.

We are a small charity that has significant impact: last year we assisted over 2000 individuals.  RAK won the Best in Supporting Young People award and was Highly Commended at the Kingston Borough Business Awards (KBBA) in 2025. 

The charity is seeking to recruit a volunteer chair of trustees, and would suit someone who has management experience in public or voluntary sector organisations. The chair will work closely with the CEO to help guide our next chapter of growth, providing governance and strategic direction inline with RAKs mission and values. The Great Britain - China Centre (GBCC) is a public body under the auspices of, but independent from, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). GBCC works to support a robust and effective UK relationship with China which furthers the UK’s national interests, and to facilitate bilateral dialogue and exchanges. Working in close partnership with HMG and other UK institutions including parliament, the political parties, the judiciary and the legal profession, academia and business, GBCC occupies a niche role creating diverse entry points for UK-China dialogue on bilateral as well as global questions.

In operation since 1974, GBCC has established unique networks in China, the UK and globally. Our relationships and influence have provided trusted and consistent mechanisms for exchange throughout changing political climates. 

The Board of Directors comprises independent non-executives, including Members of Parliament, and is attended by representatives of the FCDO and the British Council. GBCC’s Chair is Isabel Hilton OBE, and the Honorary President is Sir David Lidington. The Board meets in London four times a year, and there is a number of sub-committees in which directors are expected to participate. GBCC’s directors are also expected to commit time outside the formal Board commitment to use their expertise to assist the Chair and the executive team in achieving GBCC’s strategic and operational goals. We are looking for a dedicated and organised Trustee Board Administrator to help ensure the smooth running of our governance. In this role, you will take the lead in coordinating quarterly Board meetings, liaising with Trustees and the Chair to make sure everything is well-prepared and runs efficiently.

Your responsibilities will include sending out meeting invites, preparing and sharing agendas, circulating key documents, and recording accurate minutes. This is a flexible, voluntary position with quarterly meetings (three online and one in person), and you will be joining a supportive group of Trustees who are passionate about improving youth mental health and guiding the strategic direction of our work.

Ultimately accountable to the Chair of the Board of Trustees, through the National Chairman your role is to ensure that the branch is running in line with SSAFA’s Royal Charter Rules, Regulations, and policies. Also, to ensure that clients and volunteers are safe, all services provided are appropriate and effective and that the branch is financially sound. You will be the public face of SSAFA in your branch area.

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan. More people than ever are contacting SSAFA for financial, practical and emotional support. To do this we need local branches and volunteers who can coordinate people, ensure the local population know about SSAFA and keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Our branches support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

This role is about leadership, coordination, and administration. As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but many volunteers are based at home. The role requires an ongoing time commitment, usually about 2-3 days per month. In addition, you would need to organise and attend regular meetings throughout the year.

What would you be doing?

• Providing leadership to the Branch and ensuring that all activities comply with SSAFA regulations both directly, and through the Branch Secretary, other Branch Officers, and Divisional Officers.
• Providing support and guidance to volunteers in office holder roles, and support with recruitment of volunteers into these positions to ensure the sustainability of the branch.
• Ensuring the financial integrity of the Branch, including the appointment of Treasurers and a local fundraising programme to meet branch running costs.
• Ensuring that all data is processed and held in accordance with SSAFA’s data management policies.
• Monitoring volunteer numbers against the demand for support and working with other volunteers, regional and central office staff to attract and recruit new volunteers as required.
• Ensuring that all volunteers are recruited, inducted, supported, and managed in line with SSAFA policies, such as the Volunteering Policy, Volunteer Code of Conduct, Data Protection Policy, and Safeguarding Policy.
• Building relationships with regional and central office staff, local voluntary organisations and, if applicable, SSAFA Service committees, local military establishments, prisons etc.
• Overseeing an appropriate programme of awareness raising so that potential clients, volunteers, and supporters know how to contact the branch.
• Providing timely reports and information to SSAFA’s Central Office
• Overseeing a programme of meetings including an AGM, branch meetings, committee meetings, training etc.
• Supporting any salaried branch staff and ensuring that their line management arrangements are working appropriately.
• Resolve any complaints that are suitable for local resolution in accordance with SSAFA’s Complaints Policy and procedures, referring upwards any that are not suitable for local resolution.

The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

• Volunteers will be covered by SSAFAs Public Liability Insurance whilst carrying out the role.

What are we looking for?

• Providing leadership to the Branch and ensuring that all activities comply with SSAFA regulations both directly, and through the Branch Secretary, other Branch Officers, and Divisional Officers.
• Providing support and guidance to volunteers in office holder roles, and support with recruitment of volunteers into these positions to ensure the sustainability of the branch.
• Ensuring the financial integrity of the Branch, including the appointment of Treasurers and a local fundraising programme to meet branch running costs.
• Ensuring that all data is processed and held in accordance with SSAFA’s data management policies.
• Monitoring volunteer numbers against the demand for support and working with other volunteers, regional and central office staff to attract and recruit new volunteers as required.
• Ensuring that all volunteers are recruited, inducted, supported, and managed in line with SSAFA policies, such as the Volunteering Policy, Volunteer Code of Conduct, Data Protection Policy, and Safeguarding Policy.
• Building relationships with regional and central office staff, local voluntary organisations and, if applicable, SSAFA Service committees, local military establishments, prisons etc.
• Overseeing an appropriate programme of awareness raising so that potential clients, volunteers, and supporters know how to contact the branch.
• Providing timely reports and information to SSAFA’s Central Office
• Overseeing a programme of meetings including an AGM, branch meetings, committee meetings, training etc.
• Supporting any salaried branch staff and ensuring that their line management arrangements are working appropriately.
• Resolve any complaints that are suitable for local resolution in accordance with SSAFA’s Complaints Policy and procedures, referring upwards any that are not suitable for local resolution.

The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

What training and support would you receive?

• Role specific training to prepare you for your voluntary role – caseworker training, caseworker IT system training, volunteer management – attracting, recruiting, and inducting volunteers. 
• Mandatory on-line training modules to complete at home, so you are up to date on how to keep clients, their families safe and personal information safe.
• Local orientation as well as meet and greet sessions with key Central Office and regional teams.
• Access to a range additional e-learning courses as well as local opportunities for your personal and professional development.
• Support from Regional and central staff and peer support from fellow Chairs in neighbouring branches.
• Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses
• Volunteers will be covered by SSAFAs Public Liability Insurance whilst carrying out the role.

The Vacancy:

Emersons Green Village Hall is seeking to recruit a Chair of Trustees to build upon our success to date, provide visionary strategic leadership and steer the charity through its next stage of development and growth.

This is a voluntary role with a minimum time commitment of approximately five hours per month. We have up to six scheduled bi-monthly Board Meetings, which last up to two hours and are usually held on Tuesday evenings. In addition we have Committee Meetings to deal with faniances and operations, plus our AGM.  Meetings are held via Miscrosoft Teams or in-person at Emersons Green Village Hall. 

The Role of the Chair:

The Chair’s role is to lead the Board of Trustees, providing strategic oversight and governance, and creating a positive and inclusive culture. The Chair will be actively leading on shaping the future of our Hall, developing the business, and setting its strategic direction to ensure financial viability for the future.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a wide variety of skills who can be an enabler to oversee the charity and build on the progress we have made to date. Ideally you will have experience of being a Trustee. We are also looking for individuals with leadership, management, and organisational development skills. Experience in the voluntary sector, community facilities or running community projects would also be beneficial.

As a ‘hands-on’ Chair, you will bring your experience and skills to the role and will be supported by the Trustee Board, plus an established staff team including the Hall and Events Manager, plus the Treasurer and Company Secretary.

Emersons Green Village Hall is a charity which runs the community centre with the same name. Our aim is to be at the heart of the community. We run our own events and activities and hire out our rooms.

Could you be the new Chair of CPRE Buckinghamshire (one of the branches of CPRE – the Countryside Charity)? Do you care about your local community and environment?

We have a long and successful history of campaigning on items that matter to the local area – canvassing, prompting and lobbying local authorities, Councillors and MPs. In doing so, we have been able to ensure that the views of the people who depend on, work on and cherish the Buckinghamshire countryside are reflected in local decision-making.

The Chair role will suit someone living in Buckinghamshire or the Milton Keynes area, who has a keen interest in the countryside and is excited by the prospect of helping to direct the future of CPRE Buckinghamshire over the next 5–7 years. It is an exciting time to join our team, as CPRE nationally is celebrating 100 years in 2026; you can be involved in making plans as to how we will celebrate this with the Buckinghamshire community through various events and activities.

You will help to:

• direct our important campaigns, engaging the local community and raising awareness of the issues that the countryside faces
• lead our Trustee board, and recruit new Trustee members
• increase our membership, so that we can continue to do the work we are doing
• expand our team of volunteers, so that we can widen and increase the work that we do
• liaise with stakeholders and partners, and forge new partnerships
• ensure that we as a charity meet our legal requirements, adhering to our governing document, and have the necessary policies and resources
• nurture and shape the future of CPRE Bucks.

We estimate that the time commitment will be around 1 day a week, although this is variable and dependent on activities. You can of course do more if you wish! Our team works and meets remotely most of the time, but occasional travel may be necessary – to attend CPRE Head Office in London, for example.

We’re seeking three experienced individuals to share their knowledge and expertise to support the mission, leadership, and governance of our college.  These are vacancies arising as other governors complete their terms of office.

What will you be doing?

For the Board to be effective as we navigate the challenges and opportunities of an ever-evolving education and policy landscape, we require governors with a range of knowledge and skills and the commitment and enthusiasm to actively engage in governance and be a supportive advocate of Sparsholt College Group.
