A fantastic opportunity has arisen at Mile End Climbing Wall for Marketing and Events Manager.

Mile End Climbing Wall (MECW) is the trading name of the charity Development through Challenge (DtC).

Development through Challenge started life as a charity called North London Rescue Commando (NLRC), set up when London was at threat of flood. They moved to the current site from North London, where they had started as a small water sports centre. In the mid-1980s a change in focus led to the formation of Mile End Climbing Wall. It became the climbing wall in London and one of the first climbing walls in England. In 1997 NLRC changed its name to Development through Challenge.

Since then, we have been providing East London and UK climbing communities with high quality climbing and associated facilities that are available to everyone regardless of ability to pay, physical ability, or skill-level. We organise training and challenges that improve people’s wellbeing.

Responsible to the Operations Manager, this position will work with the Senior Managers, Trustees and CEO, to deliver the strategic plan for marketing and communications and manage their operational implementation - including on and offline campaigns, internal and external communications, publications, digital activities, events and PR to raise awareness of brand and reputation and maximise customer and community engagement.

The position will be responsible for the line management of a p/t social media content creator.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (full time)

This is a position to:

· Deliver the overall marketing and communications strategic plan for Mile End Climbing Wall (MECW) and Development through Challenge DtC).

· Lead on the development of the MECW and DtC brand positions with the DtC CEO and MECW senior management team, retaining a strong visual identity and advocate our external profile and reputation.

· Lead on conceptualising and executing diverse events, from local climbing competitions to virtual campaigns, playing a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant and engaged community. 

This role will involve weekend and evening work from time to time, as it requires attending events taking place at The Wall, as well as attending Board meetings when needed. Extra points if you have climbing experience/ knowledge!

Purpose of role

To manage the annual programme of the PPA psychoanalytic psychotherapy qualifying training and the Advanced Clinical Course. To promote and grow the trainings. To manage the budget and collect and report on performance management data. To track all trainees’ progress, to ensure the smooth running of all elements of the teaching provision and to liaise and work in collaboration with the PPA training committee (TC), curriculum committee (CC), selection committee (SC) and post graduate committee (PGC).

Accountable to

The post will be line managed by the office manager will be accountable to and work in close collaboration with the committees of the PPA.

Key responsibilities

1) To oversee and manage the delivery of the annual programme of the PPA trainings in collaboration with the TC and PGC.

a) Booking clinical, theory and group seminar leaders in collaboration with TC and PGC.

b) In liaison with the Director of Marketing, Communications and Engagement place adverts for supervisors, teachers, and group leaders as appropriate.

c) Ensure that trainees and TC have an up-to-date list of Training Analysts, Training Supervisors and Approved Therapists

d) Room booking for all aspects of the programme.

e) Annual review, update and production of handbooks and all written materials for course.

f) Collaboration with the library to track reading list production.

g) To be the first point of contact in cases of emergency.

h) To collect, collate and report on trainee feedback.

2) To oversee the annual trainee selection for the trainings.

a) To be the first point of contact for potential applicants, giving out appropriate information about the trainings and passing appropriate inquiries onto the training advisors.

b) To liaise with interviewers and arrange trainee selection interviews.

c) To attend selection week/day process.

d) Collate information on the number of applicants and successful candidates and report to TC.

3) To support the TC in the monitoring and management of trainees’ progress throughout their training.

a) To record which tutors have been assigned to trainees in collaboration with training committee.

b) To receive monthly updates from training tutors, collate and report to TC as required.

c) To manage collection and evaluation of all feedback from trainees and seminar leaders and send as appropriate to the training committee.

d) To find readers and markers for final clinical papers and arrange dates for reading ins.

4) To promote and grow the trainings.

a) In collaboration with the Director of Marketing, Comms & Engagement to develop and implement a marketing plan for PPA trainings.

b) To work with the Events Officer to promote the trainings at bpf open days.

c) To liaise with the PPA newsletter editor to ensure the production and circulation of the newsletter and to communicate with the Membership Officer about any PPA items for the bpf newsletter.

d) Ensure consistent messaging about PPA trainings across internal and external communications.

e) To have oversight of the cycle of reaccreditation with the BPC.

5) To ensure effective administrative and financial management of PPA trainings.

a) To take lead on ensuring all communication with trainees is up to date including collection of fees, sending out handbooks, curriculums, all training materials, and dates.

b) To work with the Director of Corporate Services to oversee and maintain budgetary control of both trainings.

c) To work with the Director of Corporate Services to provide management reporting data.

d) To collect and report on data collection of protected characteristics.

e) To provide budget updates to the training committee.

f) To recommend and implement improvements to PPA training admin systems and processes.

g) To manage all payments from trainees and to teaching staff.

6) To work with all PPA committees to maintain the functioning and growth of the PPA association.

a) To attend TC meetings, PGC meetings, bpf Heads of Trainings meetings and any other meetings to ensure the smooth running of the committees and clear communication between committee members.

b) Organise and oversee the termly PPA reading group and other social events in collaboration with the Events Officer.

c) Encourage and grow PPA members’ events in collaboration with the Membership and Engagement Officer.

7) General

a) Any other activities deemed appropriate by the CEO and Office Manager.

b) Supporting office colleagues with other trainings when necessary.

c) Working collaboratively with the whole bpf staff to ensure the smooth running of all bpf training and membership activities.

d) Being part of the office duty system.

e) Adhere to bpf policies and procedures.

Good level of general education.

Experience

· Significant experience in an administration role, preferably in a client/customer-facing role, and ideally in a training, education, or membership environment.

OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Line Management and Leadership

• Provide high quality support, leadership and line management to staff, offer guidance, support, and advice to the team and support them to perform to the best of their abilities.

Service Delivery

• Support the Service Manager to ensure service responsibilities and requirements are carried out effectively. This includes but is not limited to; welfare checks, risk assessments, support sessions, safeguarding checks, training and development, and other responsibilities required for effective service delivery.
• Support team to carry out their day to day duties and responsibilities, offer guidance and support as necessary. 
• Work proactively alongside the Service Manager to ensure the service and team meet and exceed Key Performance Indicators, and work in line with professional codes of conduct.

Risk Management

• Follow relevant risk assessment and management procedures, share relevant information with others as necessary.

• Alongside the Service Manager, champion, and act as a point of reference for safeguarding concerns within the service(s). Ensure all staff attend relevant safeguarding and training and use knowledge to coach and advise the team.

Property and Housing Management

• Ensure the accommodation in which residents live is clean and maintained to a high standard
• Ensure all repairs and maintenance issues are correctly reported and managed through to completion.
• Ensure a provision of high quality housing management service is provided to residents. 

Financial Management

• Support the Service Manager in managing the service budget and review monthly management accounts: Set budgets and ensure resources are maximised.
• Promote effective cost control mechanisms and other financial activities.
• Maintain financial management within the service.

Other

• Some of what else is included: Contract management and Internal auditing, admin, and general other duties as required.

KEY CRITERIA

What we are looking for:

• Understanding and/or experience of working with people of complex backgrounds, ex-offenders, mental health, substance misuse, challenging behaviours

About the role: 

As an Area Manager, you’ll lead and support shop teams across your designated area, made up of paid and voluntary staff. You will take full accountability for the profit of a mixed portfolio of shops in the Surrey and Middlesex area; this accountability extends to all income streams and controllable shop expenses. You will also be instrumental in developing and delivering, through your shop teams, high levels of supporter experience through well-presented shops and excellent supporter service. Directly reporting to the Chief Executive, the HR Manager will support the smooth running of the Human Resources function and the management of effective and confidential administrative systems and processes to deliver day to day HR services.

The HR Manager will manage the employee journey through all stages of the work cycle from recruitment, retention, development, performance and wellness to departure, and act as first point of contact for HR related queries, seeking support or signposting to third party employment law advisors as relevant.

The Fundraising CRM Transformation Data Manager will play a crucial role in an exciting project to transform the technology that underpins all our fundraising activities. In this role you will support us to maximise fundraising efforts, enhance donor relationships, and drive revenue growth for the organisation.

As the Fundraising CRM Transformation Data Manager, you will play a pivotal role in helping us move successfully from Raiser’s Edge 7 to Dynamics 365. You will be responsible for overseeing data migration, support data integrations and system design, configure fundraising workflows, and engage in quality assurance.  This position requires a blend of technical data expertise, project management skills, and an understanding of fundraising processes.

This role is perfect if you possess a deep knowledge of CRM systems, have great stakeholder management skills, are able to work to tight deadlines, and possess a can-do attitude.

We are seeking to appoint someone on a 12-month fixed term contract as maternity cover, to join our Grants Team in delivering The Ideas Fund, an exciting programme which looks to connect communities with researchers in order to develop and try out ideas related to mental wellbeing. The Fund is delivered in four areas of the UK – Oldham, Hull, the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, and North West Northern Ireland, although this role can be remote, based anywhere in the UK.

With support from the Head of Grants, we expect that you will have lead responsibility for our work in two of these areas, building strong relationships with our Development Co-ordinators and contributing to the successful delivery of the overall programme. You will oversee the support for grant holders to learn from what is working and feed this learning into our overall approach with the Fund, as well as sharing insights externally. You will work with our existing Grants & Learning Manager to ensure that our due diligence and grant reporting requirements are met, responding flexibly and creatively to issues that arise. Importantly, you will consistently focus on how we can continue to be innovative with our grant making, and how our learning can influence long term change in funding and public engagement practice.​

Key responsibilities

The main responsibilities of this role are to:

• Work with the Head of Grants to deliver an innovative programme that constantly evolves based on what we learn.
• Deliver excellent grant-making using relational, flexible and participatory approaches.
• Design and implement high-quality assessment, due diligence and grant management processes, continually reviewing and refining the approach.
• Support the assessment and delivery of a portfolio of ‘evidence building’ grants, with projects due to begin in January 2025.
• Design and implement learning and evaluation strategies and processes, reviewing and refining as needed. Manage relationships and/or contracts with learning partners where appropriate.
• Support local Development Coordinators to:
  • Ensure the programme’s aim of supporting underserved communities is fulfilled and the grants budget is committed.
  • Work with applicants and collaborators to develop high quality innovative proposals.
  • Work with grant holders, collaborating researchers and project partners to overcome challenges they might face in delivering their projects.
  • Collate and share local learning as part of an evidence building and practice sharing strategy, which is currently in development.
• Develop and manage a small pipeline of discretionary ‘infrastructure’ grants to add value to the portfolio and/or make systemic impact at local or national level, if necessary.
• Develop bespoke application and grant management and learning processes as appropriate.
• Work with the Head of Grants to devise a learning and development plan for the Grants Team.
• Build and engage a network of key stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the programme.
• Champion innovation in supporting community/researcher collaboration, community-led research, systems change and grant-making across relevant sectors including:
  • Sharing learning, practice and ideas with a broad range of stakeholders through a range of approaches.
  • Representing the British Science Association at external events to share innovation and learning.
  • Develop and deliver events and/or content to showcase practice.
• Support the Head of Grants with developing the BSA’s strategy around future grants programmes. 

In addition, the post-holder will be expected to:

• Support colleagues across the organisation, especially at busy times or on specific areas of expertise.
• Undertake assessment or grant management work on other programmes as required.
• Other duties as reasonably required by the line manager.

The Internal Communications and Engagement Advisor is part of a strategically focused Internal Communications and Engagement team at the heart of Marie Curie. The role aims to drive effective communication, foster engagement, and strengthen organisational culture.

Working closely with others in the team, you will play a pivotal role in implementing our Internal Communications and Engagement strategy, ensuring alignment with business priorities.

You will provide strategic counsel to colleagues across Marie Curie, integrating communication advice into planning and decision-making and collaborating to develop clear, consistent, and tailored communications for priority campaigns, reinforcing culture and enhancing employee engagement.

Finally, you will support monitoring, evaluation and employee listening activities to continually improve internal communications and engagement and ensure employees' voices are heard.

• Digitally literate and competent in using intranets, content management systems, social media platforms, and other digital tools for communication.
