As Development Manager, you will:

• Support mining charities to develop business plans and budgeting and help them to identify funding opportunities and develop funding proposals.
• Provide secretariat services to mining related regional grant making charities. 
• Contribute to the development of and promote the organisations support offer for other mining charities, seeking new methods of supporting local trustees.
• Support the recruitment and training of local trustees and officers, encouraging good governance
• Develop local partnership working with other voluntary sector organisations, tiers of local government and local communities.
• Ensure the organisation interests and responsibilities in partner charities are retained and fulfilled.
• Represent the organisation with external parties, including, welfare charities, councils and local authorities as required

The Major Giving Department at the NSPCC has an exciting opportunity for an experienced fundraiser to become part of the Statutory Team, securing significant income from national, devolved and local government, research grant-makers and commercial tenders.

The Senior Public Sector Development Manager will work with the Lead for Public Sector Development, the Associate Head of Philanthropy, another Senior Public Sector Development Manager and two Public Sector Development Managers towards a shared income target of around £5 million per annum. These funds will create ground-breaking NSPCC projects that support millions of children, and help prevent abuse across the UK.

The recruited fundraiser will work at both a national and local level to lead on securing six and seven-figure grants to help the Statutory team achieve its annual income target. Working across the charity, they will build relationships with senior stakeholders, and source and share information with funders through engaging written materials, phone conversations and face-to-face meetings. Alongside managing their own portfolio, they will think strategically and lead on maximising new public sector funding streams.

The Major Giving Department is open and supportive with an active social life. The wider Trusts & Statutory Team has grown considerably - increasing its annual income by more than £6 million since 2017/18. The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. The role

Is an exciting new edition to the TUR team, created to capitalise on the fact that the number of businesses in our catchment area is 45000+, but we’re not trying to talk to all of them, just target a few – ideally by gaining referrals and recommendations. So the job is to proactively find those local businesses happy to talk to us, understand what they might be looking for by partnering with a charity, share our brilliant story along with the business case (which is strong) for them to get involved with us in some way. We have made an excellent start, we already have a small number of great corporate partners, and this job is about taking it all on to the next level. As you would expect the role is about creating contacts, networking, maximising the face-to-face time with prospective partners and where possible gaining referrals. And, ultimately this is all because, the bigger our portfolio of corporate partners all feeling great about their involvement with us, the more able we are to raise the funds we need to keep up with an ever-increasing demand for our services.

About You

You live within - or know well, West/Central London, you probably need a job with some working flexibility and want to have genuine belief in the product or service you’re talking about. You have a CV that demonstrates solid experience in a comparable role in a ‘business-to-business’ environment, a role - the success of which, is dependent on the levels of energy and proactivity you provide. This could be in another charity, CIC or other Non-Profit organisation. However, if you have a solid B2B background and want to explore a change of direction you are also very welcome to apply. You are comfortable and confident with working autonomously, you can articulate and ‘bring to life’ your story through your presentation skills. Role Summary    

This exciting role will enable Alcohol Change UK to reach millions of people across the UK with key messages about alcohol and alcohol harm, delivered through print, online, and broadcast media engagement tactics. With a high level of existing press interest in our work and campaigns (including our flagship Dry January® campaign), this is an exciting moment as we look to develop our proactive media engagement and share reframed stories about alcohol which resonate with a huge audience. Your work will drive significant awareness of our organisation, and ultimately enable millions of people to transform their relationship with alcohol.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities    

Media engagement  

• Manage the organisation’s media inbox and phone line, handling enquiries from journalists and providing responses in a timely manner

• Provide regular out of hours media cover on a rota basis (scaling depending on busier campaign periods, shared fairly with others and TOIL provided for hours worked)

• Develop public media statements and quotes across the whole spectrum of Alcohol Change UK’s work, issuing to press both reactively and proactively

• Provide ongoing development of our key lines library, regularly reviewing responses we have on file for a range of topics 

• Support Alcohol Change UK spokespeople (Chief Executive, Directors and others) prepare for interviews: developing tailored briefings ahead of opportunities, providing a sounding board to rehearse key lines when required and giving feedback on appearances to support ongoing development

• Manage our media database and reporting tools, providing regular condensed reports for the Director of Communications and Marketing/CEO/Board and develop insights-gathering to better inform our media engagement strategy

• With the Director of Communications and Marketing, play a key role in media crisis management, escalating issues as appropriate, suggesting solutions and developing organisational responses to sensitive situations

• Support the deployment of Alcohol Change UK voices, working closely with the Engagement Team to identify Community Champions, Ambassadors and others who are happy to be supported to share their experiences of alcohol and alcohol harm with the media

Developing a new proactive media strategy  

• Plan and deliver a new strategy for generating proactive media coverage, where Alcohol Change UK’s research, campaigns, parliamentary and wider activity connect with larger audiences in a strategic way

• Working closely with teams across the organisation, craft compelling media plans and press releases to generate coverage of our work

• Bring fresh energy to opportunity spotting, securing opinion pieces, expert comment, letters to editors and other ‘newsjacking’ content – particularly on ‘culture change’ topics such as sober shaming and stigma 

• Manage relationships with key journalists in our sector, exploring opportunities for partnerships and exclusives

Campaign media activity  

• Particularly for our flagship Dry January® campaign, and with the support of the Director of Communications and Marketing, develop media support briefs for external media agencies, when required 

• Develop fresh strategies and media angles for annual campaigns (Dry January®, Sober Spring, Alcohol Awareness Week) to keep activity engaging for public and returning audiences

• Think creatively to craft media strategies which are tailored to reach segmented audience groups, aligning with targets for individual campaigns to reach under-served communities 

• Provide detailed campaign media evaluations, insights and learning reports

DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full-Time or Part-time (21-35 hours per week). If part-time agreed then additional hours may sometime be required and can be taken as Time Off In Lieu.

The charity’s Development Manager will slot into the newly-formed Development Directorate, working with the Director of Development to deliver transformational programmes, projects and initiatives across the charity.

The postholder will have the opportunity to drive development across commercial, volunteering and grant-making activities, among others, and will manage a team including the Grants Officer and Volunteer Coordinator.

As the Events and Community Fundraising Manager, you will play a central role in developing and implementing MK SNAP’s marketing strategies, with a primary focus on events and community fundraising initiatives. The role requires a strategic thinker who can effectively utilise the full marketing mix to achieve our aim of providing an exemplary education setting for our learners.

Grove Court is 24 hours 12 bed registered Residential Care Home. This service supports male and female residents with severe mental illness.

How you will make a difference:

• I ensure the delivery of safe, personalised services to each individual service user through assessment, person-centred planning and regular outcome focused reviews of services. 
• I ensure the development of aspirational support planning for individual residents.
• I ensure safe systems of work, such as personal safety and lone working; and compliance with all Rethink Mental Illness’ safety policies and systems. 
• I develop the quality of information recorded on Rethink Information System (RIS) and support staff in their use of RIS and the culture of person-centred support planning. 
• I ensure effective incident and accident management recording on Hive in line with legislation and contractual requirements, adhering to internal policies and procedures and regulatory notifications. 
• I maximise service user experience through developing an effective complaints management culture and recording on Hive in line with internal policies and procedures 
• I take a safeguarding lead role in the service, ensuring effective safeguarding practice and reporting. Establishing effective professional relationship with the safeguarding team.
• I provide effective line management to staff, including dealing with conduct, performance and attendance issues under relevant policies and procedures. 
• I recruit the best talent, managing the recruitment of staff as the selection panel leader, ensuring compliance with Recruitment & Selection policy and Equality legislation. 

Some of the essential skills and experience required:

• I have achieved (or working towards) Level 5 Diploma in Leadership in Health & Social Care or the equivalent.
• 2 years relevant experience in an operational management capacity in a health/social care setting. 
• Knowledge and understanding of the current legal responsibilities and standards for CQC registered services, including the need for the management and delivery of person-centred services. 
• Experience of providing effective supervision, leadership and management of staff. 
• Must have experience of directly working with people with a severe mental illness.
• Must have experience of working within statutory agencies.
