This is a new fundraising opportunity to help provide support for serving personnel, veterans and their families ensuring that no-one battles alone.
Supported by the Statutory Grants Manager, this role is fundamental in developing, supporting and championing new and existing fundraising from heath providers and local authorities. The aim is to increase income generation in this area whilst raising SSAFA’s profile within local authorities and health care provision. This initiative will require relationship development and bid writing skills to create effective proposals for support.
SSAFA is entering into an exciting period of strategic development within this proven income stream. If successful, you will be the part of a small team with potential for career development.
There will be an occasional need to travel across the UK and to work evenings and weekends at key events.

You will join a small, established and dedicated team who cover the whole of the UK. With regular team meetings and a variety of communication mediums you will be given ongoing support, training and mentoring throughout. We are a remote team and well connected to all colleagues. This supports and drives our determination and success.

Head of Wellbeing and Grants – The Solicitors’ Charity
We’re looking for a Head of Wellbeing and Grants to provide collaborative leadership to the Wellbeing and Grants Team and its operations, which are the centre of the Charity’s core charitable activities. As well as running a personal caseload, you’ll work with the team to develop a systematic approach/methodology to case management practice and review, rooted in case management best practice.
Salary c£56,500 to c£63,500 rising to c£57,500 to £64,500 after a 6-month probationary period. The point on these salary ranges at which you will be paid is dependent on your location.
Flexible working arrangements are possible, including homeworking with occasional attendance in person at meetings, largely in central London. Most staff work from home, though we also have an office in southwest London (SW12).
The Head of Wellbeing and Grants role
We have recently agreed our strategy for 2024-2026 and one of the focus areas will be, with the CEO and others, to ensure the successful implementation of the 3-year Strategy, focussing on the Wellbeing and Grants aspects of the strategic aims.
As holder of this senior role, you will lead in collaboratively designing and implementing a consistent methodology for, and systematic approach to, new and existing clients contacting the Charity. You’ll also ensure that the tools and technology used to do this are in place, used consistently and reviewed regularly. As well as management oversight of the Wellbeing and Grants Team, you will also hold a personal caseload and be expected to support Case Managers with particularly challenging cases.
We’re looking for someone with at least 10 years’ experience in casework practice in a client support or advice setting dealing with conversations with people with complex needs and sometimes in distress. And with at least 3-5 years’ experience in leading/managing a client support function like casework or grants/awards team.
Other key demonstrable skills and experience include having completed other relevant qualifications/training and courses in the sphere of advice and support work e.g. counselling, case management practice, therapeutic approaches et al.

In this exciting, newly created role, you will manage projects sitting under the Programmes area of the charity. The role will be collaborating with other organisations and will involve managing relationships with a range of stakeholders and delivery partners.
A particular focus will be on managing the innovative Local Area Retrofit Accelerator programme. Through this programme, the Foundation will be working with localities around the UK to support local authorities and other key stakeholders in accelerating retrofit at scale by developing and delivering initiatives that will unlock supply and demand side barriers.
The successful candidate will be an experienced Programme Manager with significant knowledge of project management, partnership working and domestic energy efficiency/low carbon heating. Experience of delivering domestic retrofit-related projects, defined as home energy efficiency or heating improvements to reduce energy consumption or carbon would be hugely beneficial - however if not, a strong understanding and knowledge in this area will be crucial. You must be passionate about driving practical solutions to the climate emergency and happy working in a small team, with the ability to work across all levels with the need to be hands on.

Following our largest ever research grant round and the launch of several brand-new large scale strategic investments in dementia research, Alzheimer’s Society needs your help to deliver our lifechanging dementia research programme, enabling Alzheimer’s Society to continue to fund the most impactful dementia research and develop a thriving community of future dementia research leaders.

This is an amazing opportunity to join our Research Grants team, based in the larger Research and Influencing directorate. This fast paced, independent role will rely on your knowledge of research funding and the dementia research landscape to deliver world-class research funding schemes, working in partnership with experts to ensure the research the Society funds is of the highest scientific quality and need.
By managing valuable, close relationships with dementia researchers across all career stages, this role will work in collaboration with a wide range of academics and clinicians and will play a crucial role in shaping Alzheimer’s Society’s funding programmes and the support offered to our researchers over the years to come.

About you
- Be a forward-thinking individual with an excellent grasp of research funding, particularly in biomedical, clinical or healthcare settings.
- Ability to build strong and long-lasting relationships with a diverse range of individuals.
- A talent for project management and delivery.
- Strong knowledge of academic and clinical research funding.
- Your collaborative, ‘even better if’ approach will enable you to build key relationships both within the Society and within the wider dementia research community.
- By working closely with experts, academic and those with lived experience, you will be passionate about the continual improvement of Alzheimer’s Society’s research funding offer, including what support and training we are able to offer researchers in the earlier stages of their careers.
Person Specification
- Verbal and written communication skills to liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders and customers.
- Excellent IT skills and extensive experience/knowledge on using Microsoft packages.
- Work collaboratively and be able to prioritise your workload effectively.
- Excellent organisational skills and great attention to detail
- Advocate for Alzheimer’s Society, demonstrating passion and resilience to make a difference.
- Be a self-starter and incredibly motivated.
