We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.
This is an Out and about visit role which means your visits are likely to be longer, very active and the person you visit will often take an active part in planning your outings and activities in the community. Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tends to be around a couple of hours, sometimes shorter or longer, depending on what you plan to do.
In this role you will spend quality time with the person you visit and could do a range of different activities like:

The Listening Place is a volunteer-led charity aiming to transform how we support people who feel suicidal. Our trained volunteers are part of a team delivering face-to-face, confidential, ongoing support to thousands of people each year. They help create the warm and welcoming environment that encourages people struggling with suicidal thoughts and feelings to talk openly without being judged or given advice.
Listening volunteers provide ongoing face-to-face support to visitors on regular, fortnightly 4-hour shifts during which they meet with up to 3 visitors (for up to 50 minutes each). In order to ensure continuity for our visitors we require a one-year minimum commitment from our LVs, as well as three months’ notice of intention to leave.
No experience or qualifications are necessary – we provide full training in active listening. We look for warmth, empathy and resilience in our volunteers and the ability to be non-judgemental and avoid giving advice.

We are looking for event volunteers to support the Birmingham international Tattoo. We need volunteers to help with collections and selling programmes.
The RAF Benevolent Fund has an active, national team who organise and attend events to promote, fundraise and reach out to the public as well as members of the RAF Family. Our Community Fundraising team organise our attendance at events in the community such as airshows, challenge events, bucket collections in the community and local shows & fairs.
Event volunteers are needed to support events organised by our teams to maximize the impact of our presence at these events to raise awareness and vital funds.
We have been chosen as one of three charities to have a presence at the Tattoo to raise funds for the charity.
Activities that you may be asked to help with include:
- Helping with event set up and clear down

- Selling Fund merchandise from the stall, handing cash and taking card donations.

What will you be doing?
You will be chairing the Board of Trustees, ensuring that we have minimum representation required for decisions to be made, keeping the board aligned in decision-making, ensuring all minutes are recorded and that all decisions by trustees are made with the appropriate context provided.
Trustees meetings are usually held every six weeks, plus there is an AGM, away days, and any sub-committee meetings that trustees may be involved in. Most meetings will remain virtual but there will from time to time be a need to attend key meetings and events in Nottingham. The time commitment is approximately 4hours per month, but there may be occasions when more time is required for a short period.
Trustee positions are unremunerated, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Our Shop Volunteers raise money for the people we support with a Learning Disability. Do you have a few hours a week to spare and share your time with us?
Our retail roles are varied and fun. You could be sorting donations from the public, dressing our window or serving customers on the till. There are many people from different walks of life and it's a great way to get practical experience and to meet new people.
This role will take place on a weekly basis for a few hours We will try our best to be flexible around the best time for you, but also need to consider the store opening times and volunteer rota. It could be a weekday or weekend, morning or afternoon, our stores are usually open 7 days a week. We’d appreciate any time that you can spare.
Whilst in the store, you will help with activities based on the needs of the Store Manager.
Tasks you could get up to whilst volunteering could include:

The Counter-Trafficking team at HBF is a small but very busy team; it works with people who have been trafficked for all forms of exploitation and supports them in their involvement in the National Referral Mechanism (NRM), asylum and criminal justice systems. The Counter-Trafficking programme provides access to vital ongoing contact and safeguarding support for clients to ensure that they are kept safe and that their risks from others are minimised. The team takes a holistic approach which is tailored to the specific needs of clients, who have experienced human trafficking for sexual exploitation, forms of forced labour and/or criminal exploitation, amongst others.
As a Counter-Trafficking volunteer, you will be trained to take an active role in the administrative and casework load of the team, and to help to provide pastoral support for our clients. This includes online filing, collating case materials (legal, clinical and other) to provide client chronologies, supporting the process of counter-trafficking assessments and other appointments, meeting remotely and in person with clients and engaging in tasks required to support the team. This is a fast-paced role, vital for the proper functioning of the team. You will be exposed to very traumatic information, but you will have careful, friendly supervision from a positive staff team in all aspects of your work.
Main tasks and activities
· Entering client data into our CMS database
· Supporting Counter-Trafficking team staff with organising and booking client appointments
· Collating legal and other case materials, writing up clients’ chronologies and drafting letters
· Follow up calls with clients and/or professionals involved in cases
· Meeting remotely or in person with clients alongside Counter-Trafficking team staff members
· Taking clear and comprehensive notes at meetings with and about clients
· Researching and collating key data and information for clients and the staff team
· Administrative tasks as required by the team
Skills and Experience
Needed:
· Understanding of, and commitment to, the objectives of the Helen Bamber Foundation.
· A demonstrable empathy for our clients, including asylum seekers, refugees and survivors of torture and human trafficking.
· Experience of working with asylum seekers, refugees and survivors of human trafficking & awareness of the challenges they may face.
· A high level of understanding of the duty of confidentiality when considering the sensitive information that the Counter-Trafficking team handles.
· A respect for the principles of diversity and human rights.
· Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
· Strong time management and prioritisation skills.
· Willingness to learn and ability to adapt in a fast-moving environment.
· Comfortable using Office 365 (in particular Outlook, Word & Excel).
Desired:

At Acorns, we provide vital care and support for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, and for their families. As a charity, most of our services are funded through fundraising and the incredible work of our shops.
To help us continue delivering this essential care, we’re looking for enthusiastic and friendly volunteers to join our team in the Moseley shop. Our shops are vibrant and dynamic places to be — no two days are ever the same! From greeting customers and receiving donations to creating displays and helping with sales, there’s always something rewarding to do.
We’d love your help! Volunteers are needed Monday to Friday, and we’re also looking for key volunteers to help us run the shop on Sundays.
As a Shop Volunteer with us, you will be:

One25 is a Bristol charity which reaches out to women who street sex work. We meet women who have been deeply traumatised from childhood abuse and violence. This leads to life situations where they are stigmatised, marginalised, locked out of society and face life-controlling issues. We work non-judgementally and with unconditional love to build a relationship with each woman.
Our Outreach Service
The outreach van meets women on the streets at night, 7 nights a week. This outreach service is often how women first make contact with us, meeting us on our fully equipped outreach van.
A team of three (a Team Leader, van driver and van volunteer) go out on the van at night and meet women’s basic needs by providing food, first aid, warm clothing, condoms, safety alarms etc. They provide the chance to talk and get advice in a safe space and encourage women to get more in-depth help by visiting our Health Hub or seeing a caseworker.
We are looking for 6 van volunteers to join our team. These volunteers will need to be able to drive an automatic van (Fiat eDucato) and be willing to drive the van as a backup driver, in the event of a cancellation by a van driver.
Van shifts run from 8.45pm-12.30am Monday to Thursday, and 8.45pm-2am Friday & Saturday nights, all year round.
Availability and commitments needed:
- Available to commit at one weekday evening and one Friday/Saturday per month, for at least a year.
- To successfully complete a driving assessment during interview stage
- To complete a Volunteer Induction, Safeguarding training and Supporting Street Sex Workers training (date tbc – online in evening)
- Able to travel to and from St Pauls, Bristol after shift
- Attend probation review after 10 shifts and if requested external support (which we would fund).
Person specification and attributes needed:
- Reliable and punctual
- Understanding of the issues women involved in street sex work.
- Non-judgmental and compassionate approach.
- Empathy and ability to actively listen.
- Ability to be friendly, but professional.
- Ability to maintain boundaries and be firm about rules.
- Ability to take direction from a volunteer Team Leader.
- Willingness to learn from mistakes and progress in your role
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Must hold a valid driving license (able to drive automatic).
- Driven a van or similar sized vehicle before (desirable, not essential)
- Fluency in English
Tasks will involve:
- Preparing sandwiches ahead of shifts, as agreed with Team Leader.
- Working as part of the team to prepare and stock the van for going out and engaging with the pre-shift briefing.
- Inviting women on to the van for provisions and a chance to talk.
- Listening, supporting and signposting women around addiction and health, and supporting women to disclose ‘ugly mugs’ (assaults and abuse).
- Assessing the women’s safety and providing them with appropriate help and support
- Taking clear and legible notes of the interactions on the van.
- Supporting in cleaning and unloading the van at the end of the shift and engaging with the shift debriefing.
- Driving the van when needed

We are looking to find up to 3 inspirational Trustees with experience in one of more of the following areas:
- Legal (employment, contract, and charity law)
- Development/Fundraising (significant networks amongst corporate partners or major and mid-level donors)
- Policy/Advocacy or Public Affairs (with an understanding of the Modern Slavery or adjacent human rights topics)
As a trustee of the Sophie Hayes Foundation, you will be part of a small team of volunteers who are collectively responsible for developing and guiding the strategic direction of the organisation and ensure that we continue to support and advocate for survivors of modern slavery.

Responsibilities
As a trustee of SHF, you will work collectively with fellow board members to provide effective governance, oversight and strategic support. Your core duties will include:

- Support and advise on SHF’s purpose, vision, goals and charitable objects.
- Act at all times in the best interests of survivors and SHF’s mission.
- Promote SHF’s values, including survivor-centred practice, inclusion and safeguarding.

- Ensure SHF complies with its constitution, charity law and relevant regulations.
- Ensure resources are used responsibly and exclusively to further SHF’s charitable purposes.

3. Financial Stewardship and Risk Management
- Oversee the charity’s financial health, ensuring sustainability and protection of assets.

- Provide strategic guidance and support to the Executive, helping to shape direction, priorities and performance.

Specialist Responsibilities
We are seeking up to 3 trustees who can bring specialist expertise in one or more of the following areas, complementing the skills of the Chair and wider Board:
Legal
- Experience in employment, contract, charity or human rights law.
- Ability to advise on legal risk, governance obligations and regulatory duties.
Development / Fundraising
- Strong personal or professional networks with potential corporate, philanthropic or major donors.
- Ability to open doors, strengthen partnerships and support revenue generation.

- Understanding of modern slavery or adjacent human rights issues.
- Ability to support SHF’s policy development, influencing work and external relationships.
