The country’s only dedicated ancient tree charity, the Ancient Tree Forum (ATF), is looking for a new Trustee with Fundraising Experience.

About us – The ATF seeks to secure the long-term future of ancient trees through advocacy of no further avoidable loss, good management, and the development of a succession of future ancient trees. The ATF is needed now more than ever – this is a critical time for ancient trees, the habitats they support and the landscapes in which they can survive and flourish. Their protection is crucial, not least because these living monuments represent a globally important resource, for biodiversity, cultural connection, mental & physical health, carbon capture, and soil conservation.

The profile of the ATF continues to grow, and its expertise is sought at the highest level. We raise awareness and understanding of the value and importance of ancient and veteran trees to biodiversity, soils, landscape, heritage, and climate. We work with a mix of national charities, landowners, land managers, local authorities, and policy makers in national government and offer specialist training, advice, guidance, and outreach projects. 

What we’re looking for – Do you have the ability, empathy and commitment to make a major contribution to the protection of the oldest trees in the country, and all their associated wildlife, history and carbon impact? 

Are you an experienced fundraiser from the environmental or wider charitable sector?

If you also understand current ancient and veteran tree-related challenges and issues this would be an advantage, although a background in the wider environment sector and in charities at a relevant level is more important. 

The People and Culture (P&C) Committee is responsible to the Board of Trustees for oversight of the People and Culture Strategy and its effective implementation, including the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion agenda. The scope of the P&C Committee includes HQ volunteers as well as the staff workforce.  It sets and reviews the salary of executive management; oversees the annual cost of living review, is focused on developing the right working culture for the organisation and scrutinises and approves HR policies.

The role of an Independent Member is to provide the People and Culture Committee with advice, guidance and scrutiny to assist the Committee in making key decisions.

Main Responsibilities

Along with other members of the Committee:

• Review the People & Culture Strategy which supports the organisational strategy and recommend it to the Board
• Act as advisor to ensure Equity, Diversity and Inclusion considerations for staff and HQ volunteers underpin the objectives within the People & Culture strategy
• Conduct high level monitoring and oversight of the achievement of objectives within the People & Culture strategy
• Oversee the HR function to assure that we are legally compliant, effective and responsive to the needs of the organisation and its people
• Ensure that the culture of the organisation is appropriate to achieve its objectives and support its values 
• Monitor HR key performance indicators to assure the Committee and the Board that the Scouts is a good employer
• Ensure that robust and suitable HR policies and procedures are in place, that ensure fairness, equality and best practice in the management of staff, including an effective Reward Policy to underpin the successful recruitment and retention of staff
• Recommend to the Board the annual staff pay award
• Ensure the effective recruitment of ELT members via the Chair of the Committee
• Approve remuneration for ELT (with the exception of the Chief Executive whose remuneration is determined by the Board)
• Ensure an effective performance management policy and appraisal process is in place for ELT
• Assure itself that staff/volunteer relationships are effective
• Oversee the wellbeing of our people, working in collaboration with the HQ Health, Safety and Welfare Committee.

The person

A commitment to the vision and values of Scouting and the ability to challenge the Association’s policies and practices positively are essential.

Candidates should:

• Have a strong track record of achievement, especially in the area of Reward and Recognition
• Have experience of contributing to, supporting and or/leading HR policy formulation and culture setting across a large organisation or movement
• Have experience of designing and managing pay, benefits and non-financial incentives to motivate people
• Have a breadth of vision and a grasp of governance issues alongside an eye for detail
• Have unquestioned integrity, effective communications skills and experience of high-level discussion
• Have an understanding and commitment to The Scout Association’s evolving strategic plan and vision
• Be able to digest and act upon large amounts of written material, and have the ability to consider and constructively challenge the performance, strategy and objectives of The Scout Association
• Have experience of the Scout Movement and, ideally, the role of HQ volunteers
• Have experience of working at, or volunteering with, a charitable organisation
  
  

Time Commitment

For this role, the appointed candidate should expect to spend the equivalent of a day per quarter on The Scout Association’s work after the induction phase. This is based on preparation for and attendance at the scheduled People and Culture Committee meetings (three in each year, generally two meetings online and one face to face in London)

Appointment term

Appointments are typically for an initial three-year term, with the possibility of a further term of three years subject to a satisfactory appraisal.

Remuneration and expenses

In common with other registered charities, there is no remuneration directly associated with the role, although the Association will reimburse fully for all reasonable and properly documented expenses incurred in performing duties in accordance with the Association’s Expenses Policy.

Evolve Counselling is a long-established charitable social enterprise, providing low cost, affordable or funded mental health counselling to adults in mainly Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. Our counselling community is made up of 50 – 60 qualified self-employed practitioners, working part-time. We deliver talking therapies to adults – online and in person. Our service delivers around 500 counselling sessions per month to a broad range of individuals, many of whom would not otherwise be able to access counselling support. Evolve also provides supervision, reflective practice, critical incident support, and mental health awareness and related training, to organisations and businesses large and small.

Vegetarian for Life (VfL) is the only UK charity specifically dedicated to supporting older vegetarians and vegans. About the role

We are looking for an experienced and qualified CFO or Finance Director to join City Harvest as our new Finance, Audit & Risk Trustee. This is a critical board role at the heart of our organisation, ensuring that City Harvest has a sustainable financial outlook, solid operational governance and sound controls around risk. As a key member of the Board, you will work closely with the Chair, CEO and Head of Finance. Acting as a mentor to the Head of Finance, you will help ensure that Finance develops as a business partner to the various City Harvest teams and that KPIs are focused on the achievement of their strategic objectives.

Meetings

• The Board holds in-person meetings – normally six per year, held in person in Central London (17:00 – 19:30)

Our charity delivers counselling and therapeutic groups for women across Sussex. We are looking for an experienced communications professional to work with to support with all or some of the following:

· Help to create a communications plan with the CEO, mapping out key activities and campaigns over the year

· Assess our current social media and make recommendations to improve content and engagement

· Design and create weekly posts and reels using Canva

· Create 1-3 social posts per week

Newsletter:

· Re-purpose key social posts for our monthly e-newsletter, using MailChimp

Outreach:

In particular, we are looking for a Company Secretary as well as trustees with financial oversight skills to succeed to Treasurer, however these are not the only requirements, applications for general trustee positions are also welcome.

We have an ambitious capital plan to upgrade the Opera House to help deliver our vision of internationally renowned “theatre in the hills”, a landmark setting for artistic and community events. Our Trustees play a critical role in enabling this vision to become a reality.

You will share our strategic vision, our aspiration to establish the Opera House as a beacon of artistic excellence, and promote our values of inclusivity and extending opportunity. We welcome applications to join the Board from a wide range of people of all backgrounds. In particular we are seeking passionate and committed individuals from the arts or heritage sector or with a senior finance background. We also encourage applications from those with other areas of expertise.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking to recruit two new Trustees with specialist expertise. Below, we outline the skillsets we are looking for in order to complement our existing high-performing Board. You do not have to have previous Board experience to apply but we would expect all potential Trustees to understand the principles of good governance, to have strong leadership skills and to have some knowledge of and affinity with the arts sector and the challenges it faces in the current climate.

In particular we are looking for people with expertise in one or more of the following areas

• Heritage sector
• Arts sector
• Financial sector management
• Capital project management
• Marketing / Communications

What difference will you make?

The Trustees (Non-Executive Directors) provide strategic and independent judgement on matters of performance, resources and standards of conduct within the High Peak Theatre. By providing a creative contribution to the Chair and the Board, they support the company’s objectives with their specialist knowledge and insight into the broader industry whilst lobbying effectively for the resources necessary.

The Non-Executive also provides general counsel to the Chief Executive and the Senior Management team at a strategic level whilst maintaining objectivity and supporting delivery.

This is an opportunity to become Chair of a Charity which has recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. If you are someone who is looking to make a “real difference” for mothers/birthing people and their families facing one of the most challenging and unexpected periods of their lives, then we would like to hear from you.  We are also looking for a Chair who can lead and “harness” the range of skills present within our existing Board members, who come with a range of experience.

Now into our second decade as a charity, it is exciting time to join Mummy’s Star as the Chairperson. We have broadened the conversation about cancer and pregnancy nationwide, and internationally too despite our small stature. We now must sustain what we have built and help take the charity to that next level where we can elevate the voices of those we support, so that their needs are not only understood, but are also prioritised and used to inform policy and planning.

Friends of the Lake District (FLD) is looking to recruit new volunteer trustee directors to join its Board to replace those who are retiring.

Applications are welcome from those who  may be able to contribute to the achievement of FLD’s purpose  which is  “to promote and organise concerted action for the protection and conservation of the landscape and natural beauty of the Lake District and the County of Cumbria as a whole and to co-operate with other bodies having similar objects or interests” FLD has a vision of  thriving Cumbrian landscapes “for nature, for people, for ever”.  Its focus is on campaigning for landscapes that are tranquil, rich in cultural heritage and environmentally healthy, to inspire and mobilise people to work in partnership with us to protect and enhance these landscapes and the communities which live within them for generations to come. FLD seeks to lead by example in demonstrating sustainability and conservation on the land for which it is responsible. 

The Board has overall responsibility for the organisation ensuring that:  it operates within the aims and objectives of the charity, complies with the regulatory requirements placed upon it by the Charity Commission and other regulatory bodies, and meets the obligations placed upon it in respect of our employees and volunteers who help us deliver our objectives. The Board is answerable to members in General Meetings. There are usually about 6 full Board meetings each year, of which 4 are in person. These are generally full days and are held at or near our offices in Kendal. Some meetings take place by Zoom, which can also make possible remote attendance at in person meetings.  

The primary focus of the Board is on strategic and governance matters, but it also has general oversight of the organisation and management of the Chief Executive Officer who with their Senior Leadership Team are responsible for managing the day-to-day delivery of our activities.

Trustee Directors are expected to contribute to delivering our aims by sharing their knowledge and expertise and serving on internal and external committees and assisting with project delivery.

We are currently seeking candidates with experience of working on committees with strategic responsibilities. Expertise or an interest in the following areas would be advantageous, but anybody who shares our aims and vision should not be deterred from applying. 

1. Development control and planning policy. 

2. Nature Friendly Farming. 

3. Visitor management and sustainable transport. 

4. Fundraising and marketing. 

5. Campaigning and lobbying political and governmental organisations. 

6. Partnership and collaborative working. 

7. Human Resource Management within the Third Sector.
