Role purpose
To ensure ThriveSpark operates safely, lawfully, and to a consistently high standard by providing independent oversight of safeguarding, data protection, quality assurance, and organisational risk. The Director of Compliance sets proportionate guardrails that enable delivery, maintains the core compliance framework, and advises the Board with clear, evidence-led judgement.
Key responsibilities
1) Compliance framework & policy governance

Maintain and periodically review the suite of core policies: Safeguarding, Data Protection (UK GDPR), Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, Complaints, Whistleblowing, and related procedures.

Establish an annual compliance calendar covering policy review, training refreshers, audits, and filings; monitor adherence and report variances.

Ensure documents are version-controlled, accessible, and aligned across the CIC and (where relevant) the CIO charity arm.
2) Risk management & assurance

Own the organisational risk register: define risk owners, review quarterly, and ensure mitigations are tracked to closure.

Design proportionate internal assurance (spot checks, observations, sample reviews) to test policy effectiveness without impeding delivery.

Produce concise compliance dashboards and narrative reports for the Board, escalating material issues promptly.
3) Safeguarding oversight

Ensure safeguarding policy and practice meet statutory and sector standards, with clear reporting/ escalation routes and post-incident learning.

Confirm coverage and currency of safeguarding training for all relevant staff/associates; monitor DBS status and safer-recruitment controls.

Chair or contribute to incident reviews (including “near misses”) to identify root causes and corrective actions.
4) Data protection & information governance

5) Quality assurance (QA) of delivery

Role Purpose
To design and steward the organisation’s people strategy, systems, and policies so that ThriveSpark recruits, develops, and retains a safe, capable, and inclusive workforce. Overview
The Bikeability Trust is establishing a new Fundraising & Events Board to strengthen governance around appeals, and to support the Trust in developing a sustainable income stream through our strategic objective of providing increased access to cycles for young people.
Currently a quarter of all 5-to-10-year olds do not have access to a cycle. Through appeals and individual giving fundraising, the Trust aims to raise £25,000 to support families through a bursary-style investment to allow parents to purchase cycles for their children. Not only will this allow children to support their Bikeability cycle training, but it will also give children the freedom to benefit from the impact cycling has on their health and wellbeing.
This is a unique opportunity to join at the inception of a high-impact Board that will provide expert oversight of appeals related to Bikeability delivery, while also advising and supporting the Trust’s leadership team as we grow and diversify our funding model.
We are seeking up to five Board Members, each bringing a distinctive area of expertise, who are committed to the Bikeability Trust’s mission: to help more people – especially children – gain the confidence and skills to cycle safely.
Core Role Description (applies to all Board Members)
All members of the Fundraising & Events Board will:

One Tenth Human is an award-winning theatre company based in Lancaster, led by Artistic Director Sarah Punshon. We are a registered charity (no. 1195497), on a mission to empower primary-age children with better stories about their own potential. We explode myths and expectations when it comes to science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths (“STEAM”) because too many children reach adulthood believing these subjects are not for “people like me”. We want to change this.
We create and tour interactive theatrical adventures nationally to arts venues, libraries, schools, and village halls. Since our formation in 2016, we have been commissioned and co-produced by Shoreditch Town Hall, Z-arts, China Plate, Polka Theatre, Tutti Frutti, Big Imaginations, ARC Stockton, The Dukes Lancaster, and Lancaster Arts. We reach nationally, but are deeply embedded in our local region, working closely with schools, community groups, charities, and higher education partners to incubate new work and give more children the chance to take part in our life-changing adventures.

The Board meets for 90 minute meetings every quarter on Zoom, with occasional in-person Away Days.

(A) Financial Management Trustee. We are seeking a Board member who would be able to support our financial management, working with the Treasurer (and our accountant) to oversee financial planning, processes, and compliance. Your role would include joining our Budget Working Group, which meets quarterly, one to two weeks before each Board meeting.

Time Commitment
- 4 board meetings per year (2 hours each)
- 4 learning meetings per year (1.5 hours each)
- Occasional ad hoc guidance through delegated committees

This is a voluntary, unpaid board position. However, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed, and opportunities for paid advisory or associate work may arise separately.
