About this Role

The Marketing and Communications Officer will play a crucial role in enhancing and promoting IAPO's mission and initiatives through effective marketing and communication strategies. The Officer will be responsible for developing and delivering advocacy campaigns and engagement activities, creating compelling content, managing social media channels, and amplifying IAPO's online presence and visibility within the global health community. The role requires creativity, strong communication skills, and a passion for non-profit work. The post holder will report to IAPO's Chief Executive Officer and work closely with all staff members.

The post holder must be prepared to work collaboratively in a relatively small team. They should be prepared to contribute to the friendly, positive and mutually supportive atmosphere that has been developed at IAPO. The post holder is expected to model IAPO’s values and to take an empowering approach to their work with IAPO’s members, within the staff team, and with other stakeholders.

It is essential that the post holder has experience in a related role such as communications officer, or other relevant position, for at least 3 years.

Role description

As our director of digital and information security, you will lead our digital risk and resilience team and programme in order to help build resistance and resilience among the people and movements challenging unaccountable power.

Your focus in this senior role at this crucial time will be on leadership, strategy, growth, and culture, with specific responsibility for our digital risk and resilience programme, internal information security, and tech transformation. Your responsibilities will include:

Lead our digital risk and resilience programme

1. Manage the design and delivery of our digital and information security support, including:
   • Coordinate the digital security mentoring, accompaniment, and capacity sharing we deliver to at-risk activists and low-resource civil society organisations referred through our rapid response mechanism.
   • Oversee the professional information security consultancy and advisory services we provide to high-profile nonprofit and foundation clients.
   • Develop our holistic security approach and ensure the smooth delivery of holistic security projects as part of our cross-programme leadership group.
2. Lead a team of digital and information security professionals and technologists, including:
   • Build and maintain an effective team, and recruit, onboard, and mentor new consultants as required to meet increased demand or to fill gaps.

Sex Education Forum was founded in 1987 and became an independent charity in 2021. We convene over 70 Partner organisations, working together to make sure that the relationships and sex education (RSE) young people get is right for them. We influence national policy, are a respected voice in the media and contribute to ground-breaking research on RSE. Katherine Low Settlement is a busy, local charity that has been serving Battersea and the wider Wandsworth community since 1924. We are dedicated to building stronger communities and enable people to challenge and find ways out of poverty and isolation.   

We run a range of our own community services to support local older people and children, young people, and their families from refugee communities. We campaign for social change. We incubate and support other charities and social businesses to thrive. Each week we work with 30+ charities and community groups supporting more than 1,000 people. 

We are looking for an experienced, confident and proactive fundraiser to join our income generation team to raise more grant income from charitable trusts and foundations primarily, along with corporates and other partners. These include local schools and community organisations. Maintaining great relationships with these and other supporters Is a key requirement of this role. Role Purpose 

Working alongside our chief executive (who is an experienced fundraiser), an external larger bid writing resource and heads of programmes, the key objectives are to successfully generate income with grants valuing up to c.£10k in line with KLS fundraising plan and annual budget; develop and maintain relationships, and secure funding from, a portfolio of loyal and prospective supporters. Stewardship, reporting, pipeline and other database management tasks are other key features of the role.

About the role

This role provides tactical and targeted support to our District teams as we seek to enable our volunteers to deliver training to both cadets and volunteers in line with the Sea Cadets Learning Strategy.  This post is responsible for supporting the delivery of the district training, including Royal Marine Cadet (RMC) training activity at Troop level. The work location can be flexible (home or office-based) requiring regular evening and weekend working supporting our volunteers by attending virtual meetings and delivering online training.

• To provide functional support to our area Training Managers and District and RMC Troop Teams, ensure the district training plans are delivered, amended as necessary throughout the year, to the training plan and in line with identified training needed to best support the delivery of the Sea Cadet Experience.
• To support specific District Teams including the District Training Officer (DTO), District Recreational Officer/ Deputy District Officer (DRO/DDO), District Staff Officers (DSO), and RMC Troop Commanders (Trp Cdr) identified as requiring support under our change management process.
• To work closely with all District Officers to increase the number of certificated, current and competent instructors, and develop the capability and capacity of District Instructors to deliver training to cadets and volunteers across all Districts.
• To support the ATOs/DTOs/RMC Troops in all training matters (including uniformed and unit management teams) with a specific focus on Districts/Troops that need support.
• Support our Programmes and Virtual Training Manager with the co-ordination the of delivery of appropriate MSSC and other approved training packages (including BTEC, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award) appropriate to the age and experience of cadets across the organisation.
• Work under the leadership of our Assistant Director Sea Cadet Learning monitor performance against set targets set by the National Support Centre to ensure equitable access for cadets and adults to the Sea Cadet Experience.

● Leading the development of our Local Co-ordinators Cluster which brings together Local Authorities and others who are leading place-based networks of community spaces.

● Overseeing and developing the Champions Programme, providing more intensive support and connections to a smaller cohort of Warm Welcome Spaces.

Engagement and Inclusion

● Developing our Inclusion Strategy to identify and engage the best potential partners to diversify our Coalition and support local Spaces to become more accessible and inclusive.

● Working with the team to develop regular engagement activities for Warm Welcome Partners.

● Producing compelling communications (written and verbal) to promote the work of the Warm Welcome Campaign and grow the depth and breadth of partnerships - to include but not limited to partnership proposals, pitches and reports.

We are looking for a Community Support Administrator to enhance our offer to people diagnosed with aplastic anaemia, and their friends and families . You’ll help our successful fundraising and support teams to do more.

Reporting to our Community Fundraising and Events Manager 

We are passionate about creating opportunities for our community to support us in ways that create joy in their own lives and help them feel empowered in the face of serious illness. Our fundraising activities are designed to help tackle the isolation and other difficulties that are faced by those living with a rare and serious condition. You’ll help us make sure that fundraising for The AAT is a life-affirming and joyful experience.

Our small team are fully remote across the country. You’ll be based on your own in our small office/post room in Birmingham with regular face-to-face meetings with your manager (who lives locally). You’ll keep in touch with the rest of the team via Microsoft Teams.

The first line of support 

As a small charity representing an ultra rare condition, the people we support and the people who support us through fundraising are often one and the same.

You’ll sit within the fundraising team, but your role spans the organisation, and you’ll also deliver essential administration support for our Support Team. 

The Aplastic Anaemia Trust is the only charity who publish information about aplastic anaemia for patients and families. You will post booklets to patients and to hospitals, heading to the post office twice a week to fulfil orders. You’ll also support our volunteer moderators to administer the Patient Support Facebook Group. 

This is a varied and interesting role which gives you the opportunity to see your impact first-hand as you’ll be interacting directly with people whose lives are affected by aplastic anaemia. You will support our community with understanding and empathy. 

As a Community Support Administrator, you will...  

• Manage our online shop, fulfilling orders promptly. Track inventory and re-order items that are running low 

• Send thank you messages and cards to supporters 

• Update our CRM and keep up to date and accurate data on our community 

• Create and schedule social media posts and event listings on our website.

• Answer general emails, social media messages, and other communications and/or ensure they are answered by the right person from our team 

• Provide support and guidance to our volunteers including onboarding and supervision 

• Pitch in with occasional event admin and organising 

• Twice a year attend our Staff Conference for (2-3 weekdays with overnight stay) to work directly with the full team 

For example, a typical week could include: 

• Sending out patient information booklets to hospitals who order it via our website 

• Finding out the t-shirt sizes of everyone on our Great North Run team and posting t-shirts out to them 

• Producing a report from our CRM system, and sending an email to everyone on it to invite them to an event 

• Counting up all our Christmas cards and ordering more from a printers website 

• Creating a thoughtful, personal package for a child who is in hospital, and taking it to the post office. 

• Booking meeting rooms and hotel rooms for an upcoming Staff Conference

About you  

Essential 

• You are emotionally intelligent and have a natural communication style that is easily adapted to suit the situation.

• You are brave and willing to throw yourself into new situations. You wouldn’t hesitate to pick up the phone to call a donor you don't know for a chat, or jump on a video call to ask your manager to talk you through something again to make sure you get it right.

• You have organisational skills and a keen attention to detail. 

• You are highly digitally literate – you can find your way around a website, CRM or a shared spreadsheet and are quick to learn new unfamiliar software.  You’ll be comfortable scheduling social media posts, using online design templates to create these, joining digital meetings and using digital office tools. 

• You will understand the joy of beautiful post! You’ll package and send thoughtful, happy packages that put a smile on people's faces when they are having a tough time. 

• You are an independent worker! You’ll be in the office solo most of the time, so you need to be self-motivated, comfortable reaching out when you have questions, and happy in a quiet room (with a big window and leafy view!)

About us  

Aplastic anaemia is a rare and life-threatening condition caused by the bone marrow not functioning properly. 

In people with aplastic anaemia, the bone marrow fails to produce enough of all three types of blood cells – red, white and platelets. 

Aplastic anaemia treatment is very similar to the treatment someone might have for leukaemia - but because it's so rare, families often don't have access to the same information and support. 

The Aplastic Anaemia Trust is the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting people affected by aplastic anaemia and funding research into this rare form of bone marrow failure. 

We fund research to improve treatment, provide expert information, and work tirelessly, at grassroots level, to support every aplastic anaemia patient and their loved ones.
