Help shape the experience of volunteers across Rainbows

At Rainbows, volunteers support almost every aspect of our work – from fundraising and events, to our retail shops and the hospice itself – with over 400 individuals generously volunteering their time, skills, and passion.

As the Volunteer Coordinator, you'll play a vital role in ensuring those volunteers feel welcomed, supported, valued and able to make the greatest possible impact.

You'll also help shape how volunteering develops across Rainbows, supporting colleagues, improving volunteer experiences and championing the value volunteers bring to our work.

This is a varied and rewarding role for somebody who has experience of working with volunteers and enjoys building strong relationships, solving problems and supporting others succeed.

About the role

Working closely with the Head of Volunteering, you will play a key role in translating the Volunteering Strategy into day-to-day practice across the organisation.

You'll coordinate the volunteer journey from enquiry and recruitment through to onboarding, training, support, engagement and recognition. You'll be a trusted point of contact for volunteers, helping them feel confident in their role whilst also supporting colleagues across the organisation to involve volunteers effectively and confidently.

Alongside maintaining strong operational processes, you'll also help identify opportunities to improve the volunteer experience, strengthen volunteer engagement and support delivery of our Volunteering Strategy.

You'll also provide advice and support to colleagues across Rainbows, helping them involve volunteers effectively and create positive volunteering experiences.

No two days are quite the same. One day you may be interviewing prospective volunteers, delivering training, or supporting colleagues with volunteer management queries. The next you may be analysing recruitment trends, improving volunteer processes, or representing Rainbows at a community event.

Role Requirements

Clinical Skills and Responsibilities:

• Provide high quality, evidence based and equitable speech and language therapy interventions for children and young people attending The Children’s Trust.
• Lead the provision of high quality, evidence based speech and language therapy provision for children and young people attending The Children’s Trust School in partnership with other members of the Multidisciplinary Team and Education services.
• Support the Multidisciplinary Team regarding the impact of tracheostomies, on speaking and swallowing following assessment of laryngeal integrity, secretion management and swallow.
• Undertake specialist speech and language therapy assessments of children with highly complex needs e.g. multiple co-morbidities, neurodisabilities and chronic conditions, through standardised and non-standardised assessments and clinical observations.
• Devise suitable, individual, speech and language therapy plan that fit within the child’s daily routine, whether to be carried out by parents or members of the Multidisciplinary team; these
• Be an autonomous practitioner with responsibility for assessment, treatment, and planning for an allocated caseload of children/young people.
• Be a key point of support and advice for the speech and language therapy team and Multidisciplinary team.
• Work closely with all members of the Multidisciplinary team, as well as the child and family, to provide a fully integrated approach to the overall management of the child. This will include any home/school visits, professional child related meetings and / or appointments, as required.
• Liaise with all appropriate medical staff, whether employed by The Children’s Trust, visiting consultants or at off-site clinics, and attend clinics with the child as required.
• Contribute to the assessment and discussion of new referrals to The Children’s Trust, carrying out off site referral assessments around the United Kingdom, as required.
• Contribute to child related reports, including looked after children and annual review reports as required, and assist with the collation of these as and when required, in a timely manner and in line with organisational targets.
• Utilise patient reported and standardised outcome measures for each allocated child/young person and complete in a timely manner.
• Assess, evaluate, and recommend discharge/transition plans for children/young people within the multidisciplinary team framework.

• Strong skills in psychological assessment, formulation, intervention, clinical decision-making, safeguarding and risk management;

Key Responsibilities

Camp Delivery & Participant Recruitment

• Identify and build relationships with referrers (schools, youth clubs and community organisations) to recruit new participants, including attending face-to-face meetings and maintaining a proactive presence in the community

• Manage all communication with participants' families — from initial sign-up through to post-camp follow-up — ensuring every family feels genuinely connected to Summer Hype

• Coordinate all camp logistics including securing the venue, arranging transport, ordering materials, working with the leadership team to plan the weekly programme and manage resources

• Serve as the logistical support during the residential week, supporting the volunteer Heads of Camp and liaising with site staff, coaches and families

• Collect feedback and data from participants, families and referees, working with the Fundraising and Impact Trustee

Leader Coordination

• Manage the leadership application process and coordinate a team of youth leaders for the summer programme

• Plan and deliver pre-camp training weekends and writing weekends, including sourcing venues and external speakers where appropriate

• Organise ongoing team-building activities and social events to strengthen the Summer Hype leader community

• Ensure all DBS checks are completed and records are kept up to date

Community Building and Year-Round Programming

• Develop and deliver activities throughout the year for current and alumni participants, leaders and families — helping to build a thriving Summer Hype community beyond the summer

• Embed Summer Hype within the wider Hackney community by forging links with local organisations, businesses and community groups

• Seek opportunities for sponsorship, in-kind support and local partnerships to strengthen our presence in the borough

Governance & Administration

Fundraising & Financial Sustainability

• Research, write and submit grant applications; manage relationships with funders and attend grant meetings

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is energised by the mission of Summer Hype and excited by the challenge of building something. You don't need to have done every part of this role before — but you do need to be the kind of person who figures things out, takes initiative and cares deeply about young people.

Essential

• Experience in an operational, co-ordination or project management role (charity sector experience is welcome but not required)

You’ll manage a small team of youth practitioners and sessional workers while staying connected to frontline delivery. About the Role 

As a Support Worker in a Children’s Home, you will provide direct support and care for our young people, who have complex emotional and mental health difficulties (such as trauma and loss) and can struggle to regulate their emotions. We are seeking a Policy Manager to lead IPSEA's policy and influencing work to achieve positive change for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families. Working closely with the Chief Executive, Head of Legal and Training, trustees and colleagues across the organisation, you will set strategic policy priorities and develop evidence-based influencing plans that support IPSEA's mission and long-term objectives.

Drawing on insights from our advice and tribunal services, legal expertise and the experiences of families, you will identify systemic issues within the SEND system and develop policy solutions that improve children and young people's access to the support and education to which they are entitled. You will ensure that IPSEA's policy positions are credible, legally robust and informed by the lived experiences of those we support.

You will lead IPSEA's engagement with government, Parliament and other key decision-makers, identifying opportunities to influence legislation, policy and practice at both national and local level.
