Due to the four-year term ending for a number of our trustees, Active Humber are looking to recruit to the following Board vacancies:

Active Humber is a registered charity and is one of 42 nationwide Active Partnerships who are funded by Sport England to improve lives through physical activity and sport.

What we’re looking for:

We’re seeking individuals who are enthusiastic about our vision and have the time and skills to contribute to the board. We are particularly looking for expertise in one or more of the following areas;

• Experience of chairing a Board
• Knowledge of Safeguarding and Welfare, in relation to Children and Young People and/or Adults at Risk
• Experience of governance matters, or legal issues
• Experience within environmental sustainability matters
• An understanding of equality and inclusivity

Nomad Health Initiative

Nomad Health Initiative is an early-stage venture building data-driven access to Healthcare for last-mile Pastoral Communities in Northern Kenya.

Nomad Health Initiative addresses the interconnected social and environmental challenges that affect the health and survival of nomadic and pastoralist communities in Northern Kenya, particularly in regions like Moyale and North Horr. These challenges include:

1. Limited Access to Healthcare • Challenge: Nomadic families live in remote, scattered Manyattas, often over 50 km from the nearest health facility. • Impact: Women miss antenatal care, babies remain unimmunized, and preventable illnesses go untreated, leading to high infant and maternal mortality rates.

2. Marginalization of Nomadic Communities • Challenge: Pastoralist populations are often excluded from national health planning due to their mobility and lack of infrastructure. • Impact: They are underserved in health budgets, data collection, and public health outreach, widening the health equity gap.

3. Malnutrition and Child Mortality • Challenge: Chronic drought, food insecurity, and displacement have led to rising malnutrition rates among children under 5. • Impact: Increased cases of stunting, wasting, and preventable deaths — often undetected until critical.

4. Climate Change and Displacement • Challenge: Recurring droughts and resource-based conflicts displace families and limit access to water and food. • Impact: Health services become harder to deliver; mothers and children are more exposed to disease and mental stress.

5. Stigma and Invisibility of Disability • Challenge: Children with disabilities in pastoralist communities are often hidden or neglected due to stigma and lack of support. • Impact: They miss out on early intervention, education, and basic health services.

Nomad Health Initiative delivers last-mile, culturally sensitive healthcare to nomadic and pastoralist communities in Northern Kenya who are often left out of the formal health system. We professionalize frontline health workers and digitizing the healthcare access, on a path to reach more and more pastoral women and children.

Barefoot and Free is a small UK-based charity that gifts unforgettable staycations to families with neurodivergent children or children affected by trauma.

We are seeking creative and committed UK based Volunteer Social Media Designers to help us share our story and grow our online presence.

This is a remote volunteer role ideal for someone looking to use their design skills and social media knowledge to make a meaningful impact.

Role Overview
As a Volunteer Social Media Designer at Barefoot and Free, you will be responsible for creating engaging visual content for our social media platforms. You will work closely with the team to develop visuals that reflect our mission values and ongoing projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Design social media content for use on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, X and LinkedIn
• Help maintain a consistent visual identity across all content
• Support campaigns events and awareness days with tailored designs

Self Injury Support has been supporting people affected by self-harm, trauma, and distress for almost 40 years, and we're looking for new volunteers to help us continue offering these vital support services. 

Our wonderful team of Helpline and Text Volunteers provide valuable non-judgemental support to people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds via our helpline, text, and email services. We're looking for people to help make an important difference to the lives of the people who contact us. 

We’re currently recruiting home-based remote volunteers from across the UK for our text service. If you prefer to apply for an office-based Bristol volunteer role, please apply to that form instead.

Our next training block will take place remotely over 3 days: Saturday 5th July 4pm–8pm , Sunday 6th July 12pm-4pm, and Sunday 13th July 12pm-4pm. Please note that attendance on all three dates is required to complete the training.

What is it like being a volunteer? 

When you join our team, you’ll take part in our training course. The training is a brilliant opportunity to meet new people and learn the valuable skills you’ll take with you into the work. Our training covers experiential listening skills, self-injury, supporting suicidal callers, understanding the impact of trauma and abuse, mental health awareness, and reflective practice. 

Once you’ve started on the service, you’ll answer calls, texts, and/or emails from people across the UK and offer them confidential emotional support. The work can be emotional but highly rewarding. 

Every quarter, you’ll meet a group of your peers in a supportive, reflective space to discuss volunteering. Here, you’ll have a safe and confidential space to reflect on the work and its impact on you and talk through any issues. 

Who can volunteer? 

We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and life experiences. You may have your own experiences of self-injury or mental ill health, or be keen to learn more about how to support others through these experiences. 

You don’t need previous helpline or counselling experience, just an open mind, a commitment to the role, and a willingness to learn. 

We are looking for anyone who wants to offer meaningful support, who can listen with empathy and an understanding that everyone’s situation is personal and unique. We are keen to recruit volunteers who are flexible, adaptable, and open to new learning experiences. 

What happens now? 

After you submit the short form, we'll arrange a chat and to discuss the next steps. 

We require all volunteers to attend our small group training courses. There will be a general skills training course followed by breakout groups to learn the skills specific to your chosen service. We can discuss your availability when we meet. 

Practical details: 

• An Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check will be required for this role, which will be paid for by Self Injury Support. 

• We ask that volunteers commit to a year on the service after completion of training. 

• For remote volunteers: You will require access to a laptop and an uninterrupted space during your shift. 

• For office-based Bristol volunteers: Our main office is Central Bristol, near Bristol Royal Infirmary, with good public transport links and parking nearby. We regret that the premises are not wheelchair accessible. We can offer our preliminary chat over the phone and discuss any adjustments we could make for more flexible roles. 

Since 2002, we’ve delivered a structured, high-impact, programme of mentoring, a paid internship, skills masterclasses, and workplace visits for young people from under-represented backgrounds.

Our programme empowers them with new-found skills, confidence, aspirations, and support networks, boosting their life outcomes. It also enables employers to engage with and shape future talent, adding value to their organisation, and make a positive difference in their local communities.

About the role

Role purpose

As a Trustee you will make a significant contribution to creating empowering opportunities for young people from under-represented backgrounds. 

The role of the Trustee is to ensure that Career Ready is carrying out its purpose, as set out in the Memorandum and Articles of Association, and that it complies with the law.

Trustees must always act in the best interests of Career Ready, with reasonable care and skill, whilst also ensuring it is accountable.  They must also ensure that Career Ready manages its’ resources effectively and sets the forward direction of the organisation.

Main responsibilities and accountabilities

· Ensuring that Career Ready functions within the legal and financial requirements of a Charitable Company

· Account for the work of Career Ready to Companies House, The Charity Commission, OSCR, funders

· Managing risks, protecting assets (reputation) and people 

· Ensuring that Career Ready strives to achieve best practice in all aspects of its work

· Determining the overall policy and direction of the Charity

brain tumour patients, together with their families.

Could you support your local PDSA shop - and help us care for the pets of people in need?

Every PDSA shop needs an amazing team of volunteers to make it a success and we’re on the lookout for people to join us.

Our shops raise funds to support our pet 48 hospitals and increase awareness of the work we do to get the nation PetWise. 

There are many different ways you can help and even a couple of hours a week will make a difference.

As a Volunteer Customer Service Assistant in one of our shops, you will be the face of PDSA. You will make sure that our customers receive a warm welcome and help us to achieve our ambition of delivering the best customer service of any UK charity. You will also be helping us to exceed our income targets.

What skills do I need?

• Are you a team player?
• Do you enjoy building relationships with people?
• Will you go the extra mile when it comes to customer service?

If the answer is yes, we’d love to hear from you. We provide training, so you don’t need experience – and we reimburse travel expenses so you won’t be out of pocket.

Bright Futures UK are looking for warm and energetic volunteer befrienders to provide support and a fun, safe space for young people with serious illness.

Provide companionship virtually for just one hour per week to fit flexibly around your schedule. If you have a hobby that you enjoy, a topic you are particularly passionate about or you just enjoy being sociable, we would love you to join us as a Volunteer Befriender!

What are we looking for?

• Positive Engagement: Ability to engage with young people in a positive and friendly way.

• Empathy and Understanding: A kind and understanding nature, especially towards those facing health challenges.

• Reliability: Consistent availability for the agreed-upon time commitment  for a minimum of 14 weeks.

• Adaptability: Willingness to try new activities and adapt to the needs of the young person you are paired with.
