Job description

Are you a senior strategic leader with a successful record in people and organisational development or digital transformation looking to contribute your time and expertise to a modern university that transforms people’s lives through education excellence? The University of Derby is seeking two independent Governors to join their Governing Council and contribute to the continued success and growth of the institution.

Location: Derby

Time commitment: Up to 20 days per year

The University of Derby is working towards its 2018-2030 Strategic Framework and is seeking candidates to join the Governing Council with a passion for contributing to the development of educational opportunities, the senior leadership experience and insight needed to steer the University through to its future goals.

About the role.

The University is looking to appoint two Independent Governors to join its Governing Council, which will include membership of its Performance, People & Resources Committee (PPRC).

The Governing Council and its Committees

The University’s Governing Council is the governing body of the University and the board of directors of the company. Membership comprises of a majority of independent governors (Lay Members) alongside representatives from the University’s staff and student body. There are five Council meetings and two strategy days for per year.

Performance, People and Resources Committee (PPRC)

The PPRC is responsible for seeking assurance and advising the Governing Council on matters relating to the University’s people and culture strategy and digital strategy, in addition to financial and other areas of performance.

The Committee meets five times per year, alternating between in-person and virtual meetings.

Who we are looking for.

As the University of Derby continues to deliver against our strategic ambitions through the Future Derby programme, which will ensure the sustainability of the University through efficiency, effectiveness, future readiness and alignment with the University’s purpose and values, we are seeking candidates skilled in challenging effectively at executive level who will use their expertise in either HR/organisational development or digital strategy/transformation to offer insight, support and constructive challenge. Candidates must have the ability to contribute to strategic thinking, taking the pulse of an organisation without being hands-on, and be committed to attending meetings and being part of the University community.
