Role Summary    

This exciting role will enable Alcohol Change UK to reach millions of people across the UK with key messages about alcohol and alcohol harm, delivered through print, online, and broadcast media engagement tactics. With a high level of existing press interest in our work and campaigns (including our flagship Dry January® campaign), this is an exciting moment as we look to develop our proactive media engagement and share reframed stories about alcohol which resonate with a huge audience. Your work will drive significant awareness of our organisation, and ultimately enable millions of people to transform their relationship with alcohol.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities    

Media engagement  

• Manage the organisation’s media inbox and phone line, handling enquiries from journalists and providing responses in a timely manner

• Provide regular out of hours media cover on a rota basis (scaling depending on busier campaign periods, shared fairly with others and TOIL provided for hours worked)

• Develop public media statements and quotes across the whole spectrum of Alcohol Change UK’s work, issuing to press both reactively and proactively

• Provide ongoing development of our key lines library, regularly reviewing responses we have on file for a range of topics 

• Support Alcohol Change UK spokespeople (Chief Executive, Directors and others) prepare for interviews: developing tailored briefings ahead of opportunities, providing a sounding board to rehearse key lines when required and giving feedback on appearances to support ongoing development

• Manage our media database and reporting tools, providing regular condensed reports for the Director of Communications and Marketing/CEO/Board and develop insights-gathering to better inform our media engagement strategy

• With the Director of Communications and Marketing, play a key role in media crisis management, escalating issues as appropriate, suggesting solutions and developing organisational responses to sensitive situations

• Support the deployment of Alcohol Change UK voices, working closely with the Engagement Team to identify Community Champions, Ambassadors and others who are happy to be supported to share their experiences of alcohol and alcohol harm with the media

Developing a new proactive media strategy  

• Plan and deliver a new strategy for generating proactive media coverage, where Alcohol Change UK’s research, campaigns, parliamentary and wider activity connect with larger audiences in a strategic way

• Working closely with teams across the organisation, craft compelling media plans and press releases to generate coverage of our work

• Bring fresh energy to opportunity spotting, securing opinion pieces, expert comment, letters to editors and other ‘newsjacking’ content – particularly on ‘culture change’ topics such as sober shaming and stigma 

• Manage relationships with key journalists in our sector, exploring opportunities for partnerships and exclusives

Campaign media activity  

• Particularly for our flagship Dry January® campaign, and with the support of the Director of Communications and Marketing, develop media support briefs for external media agencies, when required 

• Develop fresh strategies and media angles for annual campaigns (Dry January®, Sober Spring, Alcohol Awareness Week) to keep activity engaging for public and returning audiences

• Think creatively to craft media strategies which are tailored to reach segmented audience groups, aligning with targets for individual campaigns to reach under-served communities 

• Provide detailed campaign media evaluations, insights and learning reports

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Lead a large staff team across London to achieve and exceed programme performance targets and operational standards.

· Oversee core services including IPS in Primary Care, IPS in SMI and Employment Advisors in Talking Therapies, ensuring all contractual obligations are met.

The Director of Operations will work as part of the management team to develop and implement the organisation’s strategy and operational plans and to build the longer term sustainability of the organisation. Your first-rate understanding of orchestral repertoire and a range of contexts and markets will enable you to devise compelling programmes and concert formats in response to and driven by themes which connect classical music with the world of today and meet box office targets. You will be sensitive to the needs of artists and composers, and experienced in working with conductors in creating programmes, whilst also maintaining in-the-round awareness of the complex jigsaw of sometimes competing priorities and restrictions into which any project has to be delivered.

Discovering new artists and musical voices will be something you are passionate about, as will be the shaping of contexts, formats and musical and cultural narratives to give artists the best chance of connecting with audiences. Your interests will extend to other musical genres, including orchestral music for film, television and games.

You will play a key leadership role in the ongoing transformation of the organisation: ensuring the highest artistic standards based on the unique Philharmonia sound, whilst championing and developing an artistic strategy built around innovation.

Key responsibilities

Programming & artistic relationships

• Devise and implement the artistic strategy and programme of the Philharmonia Orchestra in close consultation with the Chief Executive, Principal Conductor and Exec Team colleagues

• Act as primary liaison to the Principal Conductor and other titled artists, discussing and agreeing programmes and projects

• Engage guest conductors and soloists for all Philharmonia own-promoted performances and engagements, including fee negotiations

• Identify and lead opportunities for commissioning and co-commissioning of new works, negotiating commission fees and contracts. Liaison with publishers

• Negotiate co-promotion deals with external partners such as Serious or Southbank Centre

• Liaise with conductors and touring partners to develop programmes for foreign touring, while

  considering market and budget limitations

• Initiate and develop non-standard orchestral projects, such as film with live orchestra, cross-artform or cross-genre collaborations, and performances at non-standard venues

• Develop suitable programmes for Philharmonia Residency venues, taking both box office and logistical considerations into account

• Handle artist and conductor cancellations and identifying suitable replacements. Liaising internally with other departments over all cancellations

• Develop repertoire ideas and ensure timely registration on clash-diary, with support from Concerts Manager

• Lead on chamber music programming, including liaison with players over proposals

• Research and identify future featured artists, composers and guest conductors proactively

Internal & external communications

• Represent the artistic programming function to senior staff, promoters, agents, donors, Board members and volunteers

• Collaborate with the Learning and Engagement department to integrate the performance programme with educational projects in the planning stage, including Artist in Residence programme

• Collaborate with the Development Department on programmed-led fundraising activities

• Be in regular contact with Marketing colleagues as artistic plans consolidate and confirm. Advise on narrative and proof-read key documents

Budgeting, rehearsal & instrumentation planning

• Work with the Concerts Director and Managers to create project and season activity budgets, accurately forecasting expenditure and advising on box office targets

• Oversee the planning of rehearsals by Concerts Managers, seeking advice from members of the orchestra as necessary

• Agree special instruments, and relevant additional fees

Principal liaison with Southbank Centre

• Lead on the day-to-day relationship with Southbank Centre, both in terms of strategy and date requests as principal point of contact

• Keep SBC colleagues updated on future artistic plans, specifically identifying future projects which may be of interest to Southbank Centre to collaborate on, on a co-promotion or engagement basis

Orchestra liaison

• Lead the Artistic Committee discussions re future plans, and ideas around conductors and soloists • Work with the Concerts Assistants and Data & Insight Manager to issue periodic conductor and soloist survey, using results to inform future programming
• Be in regular contact with key orchestral personnel over suitability of repertoire if rehearsal time is  severely limited

Recordings & digital

• Lead on Philharmonia Records, developing and overseeing the recordings strategy
• Identify, and plan potential own-label recording projects
• Listen to recordings to assess suitability for release, and discussing in-house recordings with Artistic Committee
• Work with Immersive Producer on programmatic aspects of digital projects • Identify projects which could be digital first from the outset

Other

• Work with the CEO and Exec team colleagues on developing future business plan and strategies built around the Orchestra’s new mission, vision and values

• As a member of the Exec team represent the Orchestra in key operational and strategic relationships, as required

We are looking for community-focused person, with vision, skills and enthusiasm to become the first Director of our small charity and help to deliver our ambitious plans. Our Roehampton is a registered charitable company that is embarking on an exciting period of development to establish itself as a community-led anchor organisation for Roehampton in the London Borough of Wandsworth.

You could be someone who’s managed a community organisation before or has experience of managing projects in a community setting and now wants to take on a leadership role.  The successful candidate will have proven community development and engagement skills as well as be able to work strategically to lead and support the development of the charity;  you will be equally comfortable supporting a group of residents with ideas for a new activity, hosting a meeting of the Roehampton Network and liaising with local authority or health partners on strategic matters. You will have experience of staff and/or volunteer management and have the organisational skills to ensure Our Roehampton runs as a safe, legally compliant organisation. You’ll have a track record of embedding equality, diversity and inclusion understanding into your work.

1. Background and Purpose

The Deputy Director works in close partnership with the Executive Director (ED) to enhance the work of the small, dynamic secretariat team to create more momentum across its network. This new role will be instrumental in delivering on the strategic objectives and securing sustainable funding through its continued evolution. The person will be responsible for connecting the various programmatic areas of work quality assurance and impact, capacity support and its new country level work. They will guide planning processes to be able to track and analyse our impact. They will leverage the knowledge of the team to seek new opportunities for ensuring the Alliance delivers on its mission. They will be instrumental in developing and implementing long-term plans and processes that can bring new levels of success for the organisation.

2. Main Duties and Responsibilities

Guide and facilitate the team’s delivery of the CHS Alliance strategy:

· Work with the ED on delivering the strategy to position CHS Alliance as a network driving system change for greater accountability to people in crisis, creating relationships within teams and externally to influence change across the global humanitarian sector.

· Develop processes to support the team track progress on how we are meeting our objectives so they can be clearly communicated and analysed to continue to deliver on the ambitions of the Alliance’s strategy.

· Facilitate a strong culture of organisational collaboration to achieve goals and objectives; developing a framework that support the team’s cohesion in delivering the goals of the organisation to create greater impact.

· Provide oversight of the funding needs and priorities and support strong proposal development and compliance with donor funding and guide decisions on how to allocate and manage resources.

· Work closely with the ED, to establish and execute a fundraising plan to achieve the strategy and workplan of the CHS Alliance, including donor intelligence.

· Provide support to ensure staff can complete their responsibilities to their highest potential.

· Initiate programmes and activities that are resourced and effective and efficient as possible.

External partnerships & donor engagement:

· Stay abreast of emerging trends in the volatile context of humanitarian action and provide strategic thought leadership on the dynamic and shifting priorities and what it means for the Alliance network.

· Work closely with the ED to create a strong donor advocacy and engagement plan that goes beyond fundraising to work with donors as drivers of accountability.

· In coordination with the rest of the Alliance team, engage with external stakeholders to build and maintain relationships contributing to the CHS Alliance strategic objectives.

· Work closely across the teams to keep abreast of the Alliance members’ needs to meet the CHS commitments.

· Actively seek opportunities for partnerships to advance the CHS Alliance Strategic Plan (e.g. with members, academia, coordination bodies like the IASC, or other key stakeholders).

· Promote the CHS and the work of the CHS Alliance through relevant social media channels or platforms, through conference presentations and through workshops or other events.

· Represent CHS Alliance and its positions at meetings, speaking engagements or through opinion pieces. Assist the CHS Alliance to influence policy in the sector.

· Act as the public face of the CHS Alliance, along with the ED, to promote its mission and purpose.

Role outline: Managing the deployment and maintenance of Repowering’s low-carbon infrastructure, leading the Community Retrofit team 

Contract: Full-time role with probation period of 3 months.

You will work alongside the Executive Team with shared responsibility for setting and realising the organisation’s goals, strategic priorities, and business plan. 

Community Retrofit is a place-based approach to decarbonisation and community development, that creates low-carbon infrastructure, which is technically integrated at a local level, and provides direct benefits to local communities, for example through community ownership, affordable energy supply, or high-quality jobs.

You will be responsible for leading the Community Retrofit team. The team currently encompasses seven staff working across domestic and non-domestic:

• Rooftop solar installations

• Communal heat networks 

• Retrofit assessment and coordination 

• Data collection and analysis 

• Asset management 

Rooftop solar is the most established asset type deployed by Repowering, with installations dating to 2013. Retrofit assessment and coordination services started in 2023, and communal heat network investments are expected in 2025.

You will be responsible for ensuring high quality installations of low carbon assets that perform as forecast.

You will lead the development of improvements to our processes for evaluating potential sites and deploying and maintaining low carbon assets and retrofit measures. 

The role will require ongoing refinement of Repowering’s community retrofit offer to community groups, building owners and public bodies such as Local Authorities, and support the growth of long-term partnerships with our stakeholders, including supply chain partners.

In particular, working with the Repowering executive team you will support the incubation of a suite of a finance offers that allow a wider range of households, businesses and communities to participate in community retrofit. 

You will also support Repowering’s work to increase employment opportunities for young people in the low carbon sector, through how we structure our procurement for installations and by the training programmes we run in-house and with partners.

The Community Retrofit Team is one of Repowering’s four key teams, which include Communities, Energy Supply, and Core Operations. Each of these teams supports the work of the others and ongoing coordination and communication will be an important part of the role to maximise the opportunities for learning and innovation across the organisation.

Person specification 

The right candidate will have a high level of technical due diligence, project management and business development experience, with a track record in leading successful teams. This is particularly important as Repowering London is in a growth phase and is expected to expand significantly in the coming years. You will be comfortable working collaboratively and managing a number of staff and external contractors, as well as building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders. 

As this role is at the most senior level of the organisation, it provides an opportunity to shape business development and long-term strategy. Experience of commercial service delivery will be key to creating a sustainable platform for Community Retrofit. 

For this role, we will be looking for and assessing candidates on the following:

• Exceptional leadership skills to lead a growing team and manage a portfolio of projects 

• Experience of asset deployment and maintenance in the construction, retrofit or renewable energy sectors

• Track record of developing and growing a commercial service or product 

• Formal training in engineering, architecture or quantity surveying

• Experience of managing multi-partner projects, that may include academia, technical experts, contractors and local government 

• Analytical skills to interpret data and financial models

• Excellent written and oral communications skills and confidence in presenting to a wide range of audiences

About the role

Our Green Space for Health programme helps to realise the value of green space for physical and mental health, both at healthcare sites and in the wider community. Our flagship project, the NHS Forest, promotes tree planting and woodland creation at NHS sites, supporting and encouraging sites to plant and maintain trees through offering free trees and advice. We support NHS sites to develop their greenspace for the benefits of patients, health staff and communities, while improving biodiversity and combatting climate change. The Green Space for Health Director will deliver our programme strategy through fulfilling the following responsibilities:

• Provide line management for the Green Space for Health Team’s 5 staff members. This will include one-to-one meetings, appraisals and regular team meetings.
• Oversee the delivery of the Green Space for Health funded projects, including NHS Forest tree planting projects and our Nature Recovery Ranger programme.
• Raise income for, monitor and oversee the programme budget in consultation with CSH’s fundraising and finance team.

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is a leading UK charity dedicated to improving the health and dignity of Palestinians affected by conflict, occupation, and displacement. With a focus on the occupied Palestinian territory and Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, we provide vital health and medical care to those in need, particularly in crisis zones like Gaza. Duties and key responsibilities 

Leadership, Collaboration & Line Management 

• Support the Director of Operations through preparation for and reporting to governance meetings.

• Provide leadership, direction, training, and motivation as appropriate to the UK Finance Manager, and the overseas Finance Managers in conjunction with overseas Directors. 

Finance Policy & Process Management

Cashflow & Bank Account Management 

• Manage the ongoing relationships with MAP’s banks in the UK. 

• Maintain UK bank accounts and ensure financial governance is in place for overseas bank accounts.

• Ensure bank mandates and online banking operations are reviewed and updated on time. 

• Monitor and manage the organisation's cash flow to ensure there are sufficient currency funds to meet operational needs. 

• Review fund and payment  requests from overseas offices and that planned activities are within budget. 

• Release all payments from UK bank accounts, including UK payroll. 

Financial Controls 

• Implement appropriate internal controls, policies, and procedures to protect against fraud and misappropriation. 

• Oversee and manage all payroll budgets and forecasts. 

• Oversee the payroll functions, ensuring adequate internal controls and approvals are in place and adhered to, and all statutory requirements are met. 

• Ensure regular reconciliations are made between the accounting system and the CRM. 

• Oversee legacy administration liaising with the Legacy Advisor. 

Risk Management 

• Risk management – manage strategic and operational financial risks working with the Head of Internal Audit & Compliance.

• Maintain insurance policies across all MAP offices to ensure appropriate and adequate risk mitigation and meet statutory requirements. 

Person Specification 

Experience 

• Extensive experience in a finance leadership role within a complex charitable organisation, working internationally. 

• Experience of UK charity finance practice and governance - UK Charities SORP FRS 102. 

• Excellent technical knowledge and skills in accountancy principles, governance, and standards, including preparation of statutory accounts. 

• Successful track record of managing financial systems, and cashflow. 

• Experience of working in a multi-currency organisation. 

• Ability to contribute to the management of in-country finance colleagues, while not taking direct line-management responsibility for them.
