Finance Manager

Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA) was founded by Frank Mullane in memory of his sister Julia Pemberton and her son Will who were both killed by her ex-partner in 2003.  

Each year, around 150 families lose a loved one to domestic homicide. The actual number of suicides as a result of domestic abuse remains unknown. AAFDA’s prime function is to provide families in England and Wales with specialist peer support and expert and specialist advocacy for the range of statutory reviews that will take place after domestic homicide.

As a growing charity, AAFDA is looking for an exceptional candidate to join our supportive team and lead our finance and resource management functions. The role will provide and manage the HR, administration and finance activities of the charity and sit within the Senior Leadership Team.

ROLE OVERVIEW

AAFDA (Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse) is a growing Charity and to meet the demands of this growth, we are looking for a full time Finance and Resources Manager to join our team.

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

To work with the Board, CEO and Deputy CEO to ensure efficient and effective financial management, including setting and monitoring budgets, producing financial reports, and overseeing day to day financial management, including payroll and bookkeeping via Quickbooks, and providing advice and guidance, to inform the development and delivery of AAFDA’s strategy and business plan.

To work with the CEO and Deputy CEO to ensure that AAFDA meets its funder obligations, including reporting on time, gathering data from across the team and compiling reports for CEO/Deputy CEO sign off.

To work with Trustees and staff to ensure AAFDA fulfils its legal and regulatory requirements, including; coordinating the implementation of health and safety, GDPR and other policies and procedures; leading on human resources support; and overseeing office management and IT. Note that specialist HR advice and support and IT are provided to AAFDA by external contractors.

The role provides and manages the HR, administration and finance activities of the Charity and sits within the Senior Leadership Team.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

· Ensuring the day-to-day financial and accounting operations (Quickbooks) are delivered and maintained.

· Administering and managing Payroll, expenses, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, managing the bank including reconciliations and other financial management.

· Managing AAFDA’s budget planning, monitoring and review and year-end accounts processes.

· Meeting AAFDA’s funder reporting deadlines, including oversight of the compilation of information for the funder and the provision of financial reports.

· Supporting the development of AAFDA’s strategy and business plan including providing financial projections and conducting risk analysis as and when required.

· Ensuring effective day-to-day management of book-keeping and financial administration.

· Ensuring financial, payroll and data protection policies and procedures comply with relevant legislation/regulations, reflect best practice and are applied throughout AAFDA, reporting non-compliance to the CEO and/or Deputy CEO.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Finance:

· In conjunction with the Leadership team, undertake regular finance operational duties including;

- Preparation and setting of a three-year outline budget to accompany AAFDA’s three-year strategy.

- Preparation and setting of the annual budget.

- quarterly reviews – including cashflow and operational re-forecasts.

- Monthly management accounts and variance analysis.

· Prepare quarterly finance reports for the Board, including variance analysis, re-forecasts and ad-hoc reports, as necessary.

· Assist the third-party accountant with the preparation of year-end accounts.

· Manage and operate the internal finance and accounting systems and databases.

· Oversee delivery of payroll, through the use of third-party providers software and using the staff time management recording system.

· Manage all staff expense systems and ensure compliance with relevant AAFDA policies.

· Manage and operate a purchasing system and ensure appropriate levels of pre-expenditure financial authorisation are in place and followed and that suppliers are paid on a timely basis.

· Ensure that all receivables are billed and collected on a timely basis.

· Be the main contact with and management of, the day-to-day operations of the Charity’s banking arrangements, seeking secondary authorisations where required.

· Ensure compliance with HMRC, including monitoring VAT threshold, tax and gift aid, and undertake necessary returns where necessary.

· Commission specialist VAT and other financial advice as required and in conjunction with the Board and CEO/DCEO.

· Support and advise the Trustees, CEO, Deputy CEO and other Leadership Team colleagues with financial forecasting/planning, and allocation and funding of staff and other resources.

· Support Fundraising staff with preparing and managing grant applications and project budgets with the aim of ensuring a minimum of full-cost recovery and provide financial implementation data to enable the Charity to comply with any grant reporting obligations, including by creating and maintaining records of costs by grant received.

Effective Organisational Administration

· Oversee policy and procedure development and implementation, including safeguarding, data protection, Health and Safety, complaints, etc, in conjunction with other Leadership Team members.

· Conduct horizon scanning and recommend opportunities to revise policies and procedures to ensure legal/regulatory compliance and/or in line with best practice.

· Review, improve and ensure implementation of project management processes.

· Ensure appropriate equipment and infrastructure resources are in place for staff, volunteers and Trustees.

· Ensure insurance is in place for all activity and potential organisational risks.

· Continually improve and manage operational costs and budget.

· Collaborate with colleagues to ensure optimal use of the AAFDA customer relationship, case management, time recording, expense management and other operational systems.

Other

· To work with the Trustees, CEO/DCEO and staff to develop and implement the strategy and business plan.

· Provide support for effective governance.

· Take part in Leadership Team meetings.

· To work with the rest of the staff team to carry out any other task or project required from time to time, as directed by  the CEO or Deputy CEO.

Experience

Experience of the range of financial management and management accounting, including analysis and commentary.

Experience of audits, invoices, bank reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable and budget preparation.

Overcoming MS is the world’s leading multiple sclerosis healthy lifestyle charity established in 2012. Job Description

The Healthcare Partnerships Lead will be responsible for the delivery of our Healthcare Engagement Strategy, through the development and delivery of projects and activities which embrace collaboration, raise the profile and credibility of both the Overcoming MS charity and Program, and extend supported self- management of MS within the health and social sector. We want to be the go-to charity for lifestyle and living well with MS and to demonstrate the added value we bring through education, resources, community and partnership working.

The past 12 months have seen the laying of a strong foundation for both increasing credibility and collaboration. This has included identifying barriers to supporting self-management in MS, developing education, piloting projects and resources to overcome some of those barriers in partnership with healthcare professionals. Honing datasets and presenting these meaningfully, has added credibility and demonstrated value. We want to see that foundation built on further, and shared more widely, taken forward by the new Healthcare Partnerships Lead.

Key Responsibilities

· The successful delivery of the Healthcare Engagement Strategy, identifying and prioritising engagement with our key audiences and stakeholders.

· Working closely with both our Medical Advisor, Information and Research Manager (new role) and with the existing HCP Advisory Group and wider engaged healthcare partners, to facilitate the development of the relationship, profile and reach between the charity and the health and social care sectors. Around information sharing, service design, and understanding of the role of lifestyle in holistic management of MS.

· Identifying and attending key healthcare events and conferences, building networks, partnerships and other resources to increase knowledge and awareness of how the charity and Overcoming MS Program, benefits people with MS and maximise opportunities for signposting.

· Building frameworks for data gathering and evaluation to effectively review benefit of collaborative interventions and report outcomes widely and meaningfully, in partnership with the Information and Research Manager.

· Maintaining understanding of policy and priorities of healthcare agencies to ensure mutual or aligned priorities from both, in addition to people living with MS, are all factors taken into consideration when developing plans and pathways.

· Identifying opportunities for collaboration and partnership working through engagement with HCP professionals and organisations.

· Lead on healthcare education through our existing partnership with the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine, marketing the education widely, evaluating its benefit to HCPs and strategically reviewing the format, vehicle and content as appropriate.

· Providing clear, responsive and consistent educational content around the importance of lifestyle choices and behaviours to healthcare professionals based on the current evidence-base and the Overcoming MS Program, working closely with the Information & Research Manager to ensure up-to-date and validated content.

 Other Responsibilities

· Creating meaningful engagement with the MS community and healthcare professional partners, widening our reach to support more people with MS.

· Mapping local assets and services to target and test appropriate resources and support to MS clinics, to help HCPs share information and support their patients to self-manage, tracking success.

· Empowering people affected by MS and their healthcare professionals to discuss lifestyle modification and the Overcoming MS Program with confidence, improving self-management and health outcomes.

· Engaging new HCP audiences, reducing barriers and perceptions of lifestyle modification in the treatment of MS. 

· Leading on the delivery, monitoring and evaluation of key programmes, considering key insight, collecting and analysing data to measure impact against project and charity targets.

· Supporting the delivery of key products, services and events both in person and online that reach multiple audiences and budgeting accordingly.

· Identifying opportunities for accessing funding streams, working with Fundraising colleagues to diversify our income base.

· Raising our profile within the healthcare environment so that they recommend the charity and will advocate on our behalf.

· As we are a small, busy charity, all staff help with the general running of the organisation in addition to their specific role activities.

About you
Education or experience in a related field e.g. healthcare management, public health, you’ll have a strong understanding of the NHS, Public Health and the UK health care policy landscape. Knowledge of the global health care landscape would be an advantage but not essential.

You’ll have previous experience as a senior healthcare lead or similar role for example within the NHS or similar medical field or will have experience leading community or public health related engagement programmes.

With excellent communication, presentation and influencing skills, including working with stakeholders at very senior and professional levels, you’ll have strategic analytical skills, able to frame problems and solutions in a logical fashion and demonstrate a high degree of empathy and compassion for health-related issues.

You’ll have intellectual flexibility, able to embrace and deal with ambiguity, complexity and to be open to creativity in leading and bringing about effective change.

You are comfortable working remotely and attending events during evenings and weekends, with a full UK driving licence and access to a car.

The Royal Osteoporosis Society – Director of Income and Engagement

The Royal Osteoporosis Society (ROS), the UK’s largest national charity dedicated to improving bone health and beating osteoporosis, is seeking a bold and dynamic fundraising and communications leader who can drive transformative income growth and galvanise public engagement.

Half of women aged over 50 live with osteoporosis, plus a fifth of men.  The condition causes bones to break (fracture) following everyday occurrences – e.g. sneezes, coughs and falls.  Fractures are the fourth worst cause of disability and premature death, but most people with osteoporosis are undiagnosed.

ROS works to improve diagnosis and access to care for the unacceptably high number of people whose lives risk being destroyed by this highly treatable condition each day. They equip people with practical information and support to take action on their bone health and, working with healthcare professionals and academics, influence and shape policy and practice at every level. The charity’s research arm is investigating new diagnostic approaches, including the world’s first screening programme, as well as novel treatments to beat osteoporosis for good.

This is a pivotal time for ROS as they aim to seize on momentum garnered from half a million people checking their risk, two national media partnerships, a groundbreaking Ministerial pledge to roll-out early diagnosis clinics to every area, and more people than ever engaging with their services. They aim to lead a movement for change around bone health similar to those that have gained widespread attention by menopause and prostate cancer campaigners.

To capitalise on this momentum and as the charity prepares for its 40th anniversary, the time is right for ROS to step up fundraising and public engagement to address one of the most urgent threats to people living well in later life and meet the charity’s vision - No more broken bones, no more broken lives. To achieve this, the ROS Board has committed to investing up to 80% of annual designated spent into developing fundraising every year up to 2030.

To deliver on this investment, the ROS team is seeking a creative and inspiring fundraising and communications leader who can build strong partnerships, harness digital innovation and create and deepen supporter journeys to convert awareness into long-term support.

As well as driving the delivery of a transformational audience-centric growth strategy, the role-holder will also be responsible for building a powerful organisational brand to reflect ROS’s vision and impact, as well as compelling communications and media plans to drive momentum. We work for better oral health for all through a number of interconnected programmes including advocating at global conferences and meetings, local groundwork throughout 28 volunteer Chapters, designing and recommending better oral health policies for national governments through our Policy Labs and more.

We are looking for a freelance Director of Operations and Finance to work for an average of 4 days a week for a total of 180 days a year. They will be part of the senior leadership team alongside the Chief Strategy and Advocacy Officer and the Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy

● Deliver our Operations and Finance KPIs as outlined in the Charity’s strategy; as well as being jointly responsible for the successful implementation of the full strategy.

Job purpose

The Clinical Lead will play a pivotal role in leading and developing Action for ME’s Healthcare Services with the Operations Director, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care for individuals affected by Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME). The NGSN London Regional Board brings together partner organisations to enhance collaboration, service delivery, treatment, and understanding around gambling harm within the London Region.

Why Access Social Care Exists 

Every day millions of older and disabled people are denied the social care they need. Most local authorities can’t meet the growing demand for care, and none are confident they can meet their legal duties in the future. This affects all of us - we will all need social care at some point in our lives. 

We all have a right to hold public bodies to account, but most of us cannot afford lawyers so rely on legal aid. The 92% drop in legal aid cases since 2010 means that we have nowhere to turn. Without access to justice, our rights do not exist. The rule of law is broken. 

What we do 

Access Social Care provides free legal advice and information for people with social care needs, helping achieve a better quality of life. We work with communities to increase knowledge of the law and our rights. We highlight the gap left by cuts to Legal Aid and provide advice for those who can’t afford it. 

With a 98% success rate, our network of lawyers provide access to justice when things go wrong. We collaborate with social services whilst ensuring legal obligations are met. We are working towards a future where social care is adequately funded and we all get the support we need. 

We provide rights awareness training to front line managers, and legal advice and support to families and individuals. As well as providing access to justice, our aim is to drive system level change through evidence-led influencing and strategic casework.

About the role 

This role is pivotal to the growth and success of the charity. Its purpose is to support the Director of Partners and Engagement and fundraising team, and Head of Business Development, to lead the charity’s income generation. This includes activities in sourcing small, medium, and major (up to six figures) grant opportunities from trusts, foundations, and institutional/government funders, and individual donors where appropriate. Where opportunity presents, the role holder may also support the business development function. This could involve assisting in the development and implementation of new business growth opportunities  to boost income generation. The role will involve project and core-cost fundraising.

Responsibilities

· Work with the Director of Partners and Engagement and the fundraising team to maintain existing funds; research new income streams and prepare and submit business cases; and source new funding opportunities for Access Social Care’s projects and core-cost needs.

· Participate in planning and strategy meetings. Work with the Finance Director and other leaders to develop and implement annual fundraising/income generation plans, gift tables, and budgets to achieve income targets.

· Monitor income targets and provide regular progress reports and updates on performance against target.

· Create and implement cultivation plans for high-value donors. Our vision, strategy and activities 

The financial system and wider economy are harming people and planet, leading to crises in our climate and nature and to huge economic inequalities. We rebranded from ECCR to the JustMoney Movement in 2022 to reflect our aim to build a movement of people seeking a more just use of money. Our theory of change is that we need to draw together a diverse range of Christians, churches and Christian networks, as part of a broader movement, to help create political space for financial and wider economic system transformation.

Our current strategic priority is to increase the reach, depth and diversity of engagement of Christian individuals, congregations and networks in the UK with the JustMoney Movement, in order to have a meaningful impact on policy and practice for a fairer, greener future. We do this through a range of activities including: 

• Education and training on finance and economics e.g. our Money Makes Change hub, to harness churches’ large ‘financial footprint’ for social and environmental impact. 

• Communications and campaigning e.g. via our Church Action for Tax Justice campaign and on green and fair banking, channelling the churches’ grassroot scale, reach and influence to maximise public pressure. 

• High level influencing and thought leadership, convening faith leaders and organisations, to resource a credible, distinctive voice on economic transformation. 

This role: Head of Operations (part-time 14 hours a week) 

The Head of Operations will work closely with the ED and support the team in the smooth running of the organisation. 

Role Requirements 

​​The role would assist the ED in identifying and implementing operational processes to help turn the organisation’s vision into reality and measure its impact.​  This grade of role is expected to have a substantial degree of personal responsibility and autonomy, including responsibility for whole areas of work, the work of others and the allocation of resources. ​​ ​​​ ​​ 

​​​Particular areas of work include:​​ ​​​​ 

• ​​​​​​​​As part of the staff team, contribute to organisational strategic planning and action planning.​ 

• ​​​With the ED, maintain a strong governance framework for the organisation including working with the ED, trustees, and contractors to ensure a robust and well-functioning ​​Board  and the meeting of regulatory requirements such as around GDPR, risk assessment, and charity law. 

• ​Ensure effective financial management and processes, working with our finance contractors.​​ 

• ​​Ensure effective ​​HR​ support, including work with line managers on recruitment and induction, ​EDI, ​and liaising with our HR contractor to review existing and develop new policies and procedures. 

• ​​Ensure effective IT provision, ​​working​ with our ​IT ​contractors to support functioning of our IT system (Microsoft 365). 

• ​​​​​Support JustMoney Movement’s team in the delivery of their work e.g. helping organise team meetings and away days, ensuring good online filing and record keeping, effective planning tools and monitoring mechanisms, and effective procurement and replenishment of resources. ​​ 

• Support stakeholder relationships through oversight of our CRM and developing donor reporting tools. 

• Carry out discrete operational tasks e.g. arranging insurance and dealing with Companies House and Charity Commission queries as necessary.  

• Shared contact point for organisation with other team members, via info@ inbox.   

• Assist the Executive Director with ​​any other operational priorities as they arise. 

Person specification 

Essential 

• Empathy with JustMoney Movement’s vision and work. 

• Experience of operations responsibilities within a charity. 

• Exceptional organisational skills, including attention to detail and the ability to multi-task. 

• Ability to grasp operational complexity and yet communicate clearly to non-specialists. 

• A creative approach to problem solving and a strong “can-do” attitude. 

• Ability to work collaboratively within a small team, as well as working independently, largely on a remote and therefore digital basis. 

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Teams, Sharepoint and Outlook. 

• An understanding of and demonstrable commitment to equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion.

• As the charity is a Christian organisation, the successful applicant will be expected to be in sympathy with the Christian faith and demonstrate a commitment to the mission, principles, values and practices of the organisation. 

Ideal 

• Experience of working in a Christian charity or church setting. 

• Experience of charity management and/or governance. 

• Experience of one aspect of operations in more depth, e.g. HR, IT or finance. 

• Familiarity with economic justice (e.g. banking, finance or tax justice) issues, especially within a Christian framework. 

Grade 3 on our salary scale: For roles involving a broad range of complex and technical tasks, carried out in a variety of contexts. There is a substantial degree of personal responsibility and autonomy. Responsibility for whole areas of work, the work of others and the allocation of resources is often required. Staff at this level are expected to input into organisational strategy, represent the organisation externally, and safeguard our culture and values. 

• Grade 3.1 expected FTE salary £36,771 pro-rated to 0.4 FTE/ 14 hours a week = £14,708.

• Remote based: this role will be based from home, with occasional travel to meetings in London or elsewhere in the UK. This role is equivalent to 2 days a week but hours can be worked flexibly through the week.

Legacy Stewardship Manager
Home based, remote working

The Legacy Stewardship Manager will plan and deliver an ambitious new legacy stewardship strategy to bring about growth in future legacy income.  It will diversify the current legacy stewardship programme to convert more legacy prospects and maintain more pledgers using a combination of relationship and mass fundraising activities. It will be responsible for planning and delivering high quality communications and experiences which make supporters feel inspired, valued and deepen relationships with them over the long-term.

This role is critical in growing future legacy income for RNID, which currently represents 72% of RNID’s income. It will play a pivotal role in a Legacy Fundraising Team of four people, reporting into the Head of Legacies, working alongside the Legacy Marketing Manager and line managing the Gifts in Wills Specialist Officer.

This role is a new addition to a growing team in an organisation where legacy fundraising has a high profile.  It is an ideal next step for an experienced and confident legacy fundraiser wanting to make their mark by growing the legacy stewardship programme to a new ambitious level that matches an increased investment in legacy acquisition.

You’re an experienced and ambitious legacy fundraiser with the ability to think strategically as well as deliver a full and varied programme of operational activity. You’re ready to apply your previous experience, success and ideas to shape and grow RNID’s legacy stewardship programme to its full potential.  You’re confident, innovative and keen to use data and insight to improve performance. You’re a strong collaborator and able to influence internal stakeholders at all levels. You’re an excellent project and event manager, able to plan and deliver multiple activities simultaneously to agreed deadlines and budgets.

You will be responsible for:

· Working with the Head of Legacies to diversify and plan the legacy stewardship programme, applying test and learn principles to evaluate and improve performance.

· Operational delivery of a varied legacy stewardship programme including supporter care, supporter journeys, in person and online events.

· Overseeing all one-to-one interactions with legacy prospects and supporters, either directly or through senior colleagues such as RNID’s Chief Executive.

· Educating and training colleagues to confidently support legacy fundraising activities.

· Line managing and developing the Gifts in Wills Relationship Officer.

· Working with the Head of Legacies, contributing to annual operational planning, budget setting, phasing, reforecasting and contingency planning.
